5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 6, 2009

My husband and I wanted a night away from the kids and since one is still in a crib we went down the road to Misty Harbor and let my mother watch the children at our house. What a fantastic idea that was!! We stayed in a room with a whirlpool (let me add my husband is not a small man), the tub was large enough for us to sit side by side very comfprtably! The room was emaculitly clean and looked to have mostly new appliances. The indor pool and hot tub were very clean and we enjoyed them. In the lobby there was complementary coffee and hot chocolate, with flavors to add to your coffee, nice touch! The staff was all very friendly and welcoming! I can't wait to stay again!!

Our stay at Misty Harbor was a horrible experience. We booked a suite for an entire week for a planned vacation with our 4 year old and my parents (the room was billed as having a separate bedroom and a pull out sofa in the living room). There were so many problems that it's tough to know where to start, so: 1) The room was so filthy I didn't want to take off my socks and the bathroom tiles were moldy and cracked. 2) These are condos, so the resort has virtually no control over how much effort the individual owners put into the rooms for upgrading or maintenance, although they claimed the only variable was the "decor choices" made by the owners. If by "decor choice" they mean the decision to keep a sofa that smells like a dog vomited on it several times and the owners thought air freshener was an appropriate remedy. 2) The "separate bedroom" was only divided by an accordion-style pull out which we had to tie shut with a plastic shopping bag. 3)The bathroom door did not lock or even close all the way from the bedroom. 4) The kitchen appliances and all the (grease-coated) items we were supposed to use for cooking were obviously obtained from yard sales. 5) We soon realized there were other rooms in better condition (although we were paying full price for our arm-pit of a room) and requested to be moved. 6) The staff said they could not move us since "returning" guests had requested certain rooms which were known to be better. 7) On our third night we were finally moved to a better room, but by that time were so frustrated over what we felt was unfair treatment and a failure of the resort to fully disclose the condition of the rooms before making reservations. We would have left, but the staff was unwilling to refund any money, regardless of the squalor in which they had placed us. (My son who is now 5 stated "Oh, yeah, the place with the broken curtains" when inquiring what I was doing while writing this review). I felt terrible for having placed my family in this situation and would never consider staying at this place again, unless I was forced to choose between Misty Harbor and being dangled over the side of a jagged cliff.

We stayed at the Misty Harbor overnight in May. The room was beautiful and clean. We walked down to the beach which was also beautiful and clean as was the indoor pool. The outdoor pool is still covered. There is a little children's play area and tennis courts in the back by the outdoor pool. The kids loved that. By the indoor pool there were a number of complimentary flavored coffees. The staff was friendly and helpful. We loved it.

We went to a concert at Meadowbrook last week, and booked a room at Misty Harbor so we did not have to drive home late in the evening (2 hours.)
We were about 15 minutes early for check in, and after reading past reviews about a bad experience trying to check in early, approached the receptionist gingerly and with a lot of sugar. To our relief, no problem!
The minuses -
A slightly musty-smelling AC unit (being worked hard and heavy this summer due to heat and humidity)
Towels that were sad imitations of fluffy, well-drying towels found in higher-end accomodations
A queen-sized bed (the room was a double queen) that appeared as if someone had attempted to fit it with double-size sheets (we used the other bed because of this)
Nothing on the walls, etc. - very plain and drab rooms.

The pluses-
A clean bathroom. Always a plus!
A less than 5 minute walk to the Meadowbrook gate through the rear of the property
A refrigerator in the room (ok, they say it's standard in all rooms. It was just lovely to have someplace to keep a cold beer for late at night when we got back!)
Lots of lighting - the rooms could be brightly lit if one wanted - or not.
The motel room was right off Rt. 11B - but we dit not have any trouble with road noise - or any other guests, either. Appeared to be pretty well sound-proofed.

Would we want to spend a week there as a vacation? Probably not.
Will we go back for clean, if bare-boned, overnight accomodations if we are seeing a concert there? Certainly. Decor is not an essential for a clean place to sleep.
