“Great hide-away from the hassles of today's busy, fast world and life!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2010

Best Inn, Very friendly staff, great food, cozy rooms, best view of the mountains (snow, rain or shine), great tavern but most of all greatest getaway from today's day to day grunt.

“The best get-away ever!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2010

I needed to get away and the Darby Field Inn exceeded all of my expectations, which is hard to to! From the beautiful room (Tess' Room) which had an amazing view of the snowy mountains, a great gas fireplace which looked and felt real..to the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at an Inn or hotel. The restaurant at the Inn was romantic with great views of the mountain, nice relaxing music and the food was out of this world! The Pork tenderloin dish was truly delicious - I even had it two nights in a row! The full breakfast's which are free with your stay are better than any breakfast I have ever paid for!!! The Darby Field in is nestled away in a great location and only seconds from the beautiful Kangamangus Highway!! The owner (Marc) and Carol made my stay one of the best get-aways ever!!! I can't say enough good things about this amazing place! I will be back every year for sure..possibly even twice a year..in the Fall and Winter! The prices were great too! I highly recommend this place whether you want a nice quiet get-away for yourself or are looking for a romantic weekend!!

I am a Newlywed! My husband and I tied the knot at this charming bed and breakfast. We had 13 people at the ceremony and dinner. We had a great time, great food, views, rooms, sleigh ride!! Eveything was AWESOME. we plan to return for our anniversary.

“Lovely stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2009

Stayed for 1 night and thoroughly enjoyed it. Wanita, the innkeeper, was very helpful and so friendly. Food is delicious (try the roast duckling) and room very clean & comfortable. A definite recommendation although a bit of a drive away from the main road.

“Research prior to travel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 18, 2009

The rooms at the Darby Field Inn were disappointing, although it clearly states the traditional rooms are for those travellers who will be out for most of the day, they were somewhat tired and cramped compared to other inns we stayed at for the same price. Our travelling companions were given a room that we had not been allocated in our confirmation of booking and could not sleep due to the paper thin walls and their neighbours holding a loud conversation. To be fair this was addressed the next day and they were moved to the original room that we had been allocated with the explanation of 'I don't know why that was switched'. Our first breakfast was somewhat of a frosty affair as we were not made to feel welcome at all by our hostess and we felt guilty for asking for food, the food when it arrived was very good and this certainly did not occur the second day when that particular waitress was not there, we were greeted in a friendly way and made to feel most welcome by the hostess Wanita and her helpers. The innkeeper Marc was friendly he allowed us to play cards in the bar on a particularly busy night for him and there was no pressure to order any food until we were ready, again the food ordered was very good. It has to be said that you are paying for the location which is incredible, peace and quiet and a wonderful view over Mount Washington, so if you considering a trip here I would certainly think about upgrading to one of the rooms with additional facilities.

At the Darby Field Inn we take inn keeping seriously and put our heart and soul into making sure each guests' experience is superlative. Though once in a while we may miss something, we do appreciate input and the opportunity to respond to critiques.
We have 4 traditional rooms that are basically the same with different room numbers. We may confirm a guest in one room (#14) and subsequently change them to different room (#16), so that another couple will not have to change rooms in the middle of their stay. Managing our traditional room assignments during busy times can be like putting a puzzle together. If a guest were to reserve a specific traditional room, we would not change their room unless we could provide them with a free upgrade. Deluxe rooms are not interchangeable.
We try our best to make every guest happy. We describe our traditional and standard rooms on our Website as being small and cozy and if a guest is looking for larger accommodations, perhaps our suites would be more suitable. Sometimes extra luggage can make the room seem smaller and more cramped, please let us know and we can store luggage in a secure spot once it is unpacked.
Our inn inn is constructed with the basic 2x4 construction and is insulated. It was built in 1826 and converted to an inn in the 1940's.
We are located in a most tranquil area overlooking the Presidential Mountain Range- it is bone quiet. All you can hear is the rustling of the leaves, the chirping of birds and the wind- no other sounds. Sometimes the slightest of noises are exaggerated due to the quietness of the area. We did, however listen to this guest's concern about voices and are looking into rearranging the rooms so the headboards are not back to back or up against adjoining walls.
As far as the frosty affair breakfast experience, we take responsibility for scheduling a server to work the early breakfast shift after working a late dinner shift. Truth-be-told the server was overtired and as much as we try to avoid this schedule conflict, it sometimes happens because of staffing limitations. We will certainly make every effort to see that this doesn't occur again.
We are very happy that the guests did enjoy the breakfast and the staff the following day. We will pass this along to our staff.
