“As good if not better than Pikes Peak”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

Having been up the Cog Railway at Pikes Peak in Colorado first, I was skeptical this railway could measure up. I was pleasantly surprised. The railway is a top notch operation, the conductors/tour narrators are very interesting and witty. Not only did our Conductor tell us about the railway and its history, he entertained us with facts on the mountain, the adjacent peaks and the history behind the naming of New Hampshire Mountains in general. I think this is the best way up the mountain. There is a road, but not only is it hard on your vehicle and brakes, you don't get to ride on a historic railway. Note its a railway and not a railroad, its too short for a railroad. Anyway, go, enjoy and learn something! Well worth the money to travel to this geographically and Meteorlogically significant mountain peak.

Thanks for visiting the Mount Washington Cog Railway. I just got back from a visit to Pike's Peak myself. They do have an excellent operation and we work closely with them since we are the only two mountain climbing cog railways in the US. It is hard to imagine that Mount Washington at 6288' has more intense weather than Pikes Peak at 14110'. Our employees work hard to provide an interesting, entertaining and educational narrative on the trip.

“The top of Mt. Washington is unique”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We took advantage of the two-for-one special for local residents. Going to the top of the mountain provides for some spectacular vistas. It was like another world on top, as the wind was blowing pretty strong. Be prepared for much colder temperatures on top.

“I think I can, I think I can”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2012

We've been to the top of Mt Washington a few times... but always via the Auto Road. So this time we opted for the Cog Railway and we thoroughly enjoyed the ride. We had 2 very entertaining and informative Brakemen. The cars were in great condition. The rides seemed short (avg 40 min) as you quickly went through the different tree levels. Weather at the top didn't cooperate - we were in the clouds for the whole hour but it wasn't too windy or cool. If weather were better then the hour wouldn't have been long enough. We brought our lunch w us and ate in the observation building. The views just off the peak and the ride itself were great. All-in-all a great experience that is pricey ($250 for 4 adults for under 3 hrs).

“Exciting ride”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012

We really enjoyed the ride up to the top of Mt Washington. The guide on board told us alot of information about the history of this ride. The views going up the mountain were amazing. On the top of the mountain it was cool and windy. Glad we took our jackets with us. We also got to mail several postcards at the post office on top!

“Fun time, but expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2012 via mobile

The ride was interesting, perfect length of time, entertaining Brakeman. The time at the top of mountain should have been longer, 1 hour wasn't quite enough time. This was an enjoyable experience but $205 for 1 adult, 1 senior and 2 children is too much.
