“First time up”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Instead of driving the auto road, we took the cog. We were NOT dissappointed. The views were magnificent and it is an easy way to enjoy the trip to the top of Mt. Washington. If you can, try to take the cog on a sunny day.

“Worth it!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2012

Definitely worth doing at least once! Enjoyed the experience of the ride on the Cog Railway as well as the narration by the brakesmen - entertaining and informative. And of course, the best part of the trip is reaching the summit and experiencing the natural beauty that surrounds you. Tips: wear pants, bring a sweatshirt, sneakers or hiking boots. If you have the luxury of deciding when to go, look carefully at the weather atop the mountain (Mt. Washington Observatory website). We purchased tickets for the following day since visibility was quite poor on our initial visit. Glad we did. Amazing views with your head in the clouds. Note your time is limited to one hour on the summit and it speeds by quickly.

“2nd time up”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2012

Was great this was my 2nd time up and would go up again. I liked the steam engines they use to use but now you get up the mountain faster with the engines they use. You can still get the steam engine that is the 1st one up and down the mountain 8:30 a.m. but wait if there are clouds we had 2 days we could see the top of the mountain, it is usually in clouds.

“This is a must do”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 31, 2012

Last time we went to the top in our car, it never ran right afterwards. So we decided to do the railway. It is really fun. It takes about 45 minutes to get you to the top. All the way up the views are spectacular. Unless of course, the weather is bad. In that case, you see nothing but it is still fun because you end up on top of a cold mountain with winds, fog, and rain in the middle of the summer! Great for pictures with the kids. The car attendant meant well with his historical information and personal anecdotes but probably could have rested his vocal cords for at least a minute or two. I would do this again for sure.

“Do not miss...unless the weather is cloudy.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 30, 2012

Wonderful historical adventure. This attraction has something for everyone, shopping, museum, food, scenery and ride to clouds! We got in line early to get a front seat on the left for the most exciting scenery for the trip up. Wear sneakers or hiking boots, bring outwear for wind, rain...snow? It took about 45 minutes to ride up, 1 hour on the top (not long enough) and 45 minutes for the ride down. Sit on the right side going down.
