“Local find”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

We have owned a home in South Lake Tahoe since 1975. Restaurants come and go. Mostly there isn't good middle priced places to go. Someone told my mom about this place a couple of summers ago, and now it is my favorite spot. Please realize that everyone is Lake Tahoe is on what the locals call "Tahoe Time", which is a lot like Hawaiian time. For the rest of us in the bay area, that is code for slow. Be patient, the food is worth it. It is a family run business and the owner will come out and talk to you. I haven't had anything I didn't like, but the place is always crowded, so get a glass of wine and bring good company so you forgot how slow it takes them to bring you your food.

“Highlight your Tahoe Trip with a meal at Capisce”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Generally the food in South Lake Tahoe sucks but a year or two ago my friends and I stumbled upon this gem of a restaurant and have been coming back time after time without disappointment. The food is outstanding, some of the finest Italian you'll ever eat. The atmosphere is wonderful, quaint and nicely decorated. The staff is fantastic. This is a family owned and operated restaurant. Mom is the Chef, Son is the bartender, daughters are servers and they are all incredibly friendly and kind. 5 stars. A little pricey but you get what you pay for. Finish your trip to the snow with a gourmet dinner and an excellent experience only about 1 mile from the casinos in south lake.

“Tricky one to review...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

As my wife (who is much kinder than me) said, "everything was great about it except what it was."

On the one hand, you really appreciate the atmosphere and family feeling of the place. On the other hand, running it like a family just doesn't work. They try but trying hard is not going to win over patrons and turn them into raving fans. You shouldn't have to wait 40 minutes for salad. You shouldn't have to ask for a 2nd glass of wine. These are service failures and unfortunately our server didn't own up to or even acknowledge them.

Food is good, dessert is great.

Just go in with low expectations and you will likely come out happy.

“Excellent food and decor. Overextended service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

The place was packed, so our group of four sat at the bar (a very attractive granite slab with comfortable seating. The service was friendly but ridiculously overextended. Big mistake. It took 2 hours before we got any food. We'll go back when it's a lot quieter.

“Not bad but a little pricey”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2012

My husband and I were in the mood for Italian and the choices in this part of the country are kind of limited. We happened upon Capisce and were pleasantly surprised. The food was not your generic Italian. They had plenty of specials and house recipes to choose from. The soup and salad was really bland but the chicken with artichoke dish was awesome! The prices were a little steep (~$25 per person just for food) but we didn't feel like it was completely unwarranted. Over all, pretty good.
