“The highlight of our trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2010

We looked at most of the hotels/motels in VC and decided to stay at the VCM due to the friendliness of the manager. Although this is probably not considered a 5-star joint, the room was as clean as any we stayed in and we were (without a doubt) treated with 5-star courtesy. The manager was BY FAR the nicest person we had the pleasure of talking to during our trip. As we were loading up the bike to get out by "check out" time, we were offered a cup of coffee. That turned out to be the best cup of coffee we have ever had. We were then informed (by the manager) that they are "laid-back" and not to worry about checking out on time. We had the opportunity to go back into town for a great prime-rib & eggs breakfast (lunch) and do more sight-seeing before returning later that afternoon to collect our belongings and continue our journey. The free golf cart shuttle to, from, and around town was just icing on the cake. We would not even consider staying at any other place in future visits and we have already made a reservation for next year.

Everyone was so nice at the motel. Rooms were very clean. Great view and a wonderful dog friendly place. I will always stay here with my family when we come up.

We stayed at the VCM on a recent visit to see "Wild Will" Strickland at Sergeant Major's Silver Dollar Saloon." The rooms are clean and comfortable with a movie motif in each. It was a little like staying over at grandma's, lots of soft pillows, slightly wash worn, but clean smelling linen. We were traveling with 2 dogs, one small, one large and they also highly recommend the wonderful backyard with the hundred mile view. A nice grassy area with trees and a picnic table sit right on the edge of the world, the perfect place to watch the long slow sunsets in this part of the country and throw the ball for the dog so he'll sleep well. The dogs loved putting their noses into the breeze coming round the mountain, and so did we. The owners couldn't have been friendlier and more accommodating. Eat at the Bonanza Cafe, the Chinese place is actually quite good as well, but NOTHING beats a hot dog and soda breakfast in town!

This is a lovely, affordable, clean place to stay. It felt like home with the soft towels and comfy bed. Definately will stay there again if visiting Virginia City.

We checked in very late, after a harried drive up the hill to get to VC, but the owner came to the office and was very friendly. Quickly gave us a room, had stopped in to turn on the heater before she checked us in. Suggested we park our car in a different spot due to weather. Gave us extra pillows, and made sure we had all our needed supplies for the evening. Room was nice, beds were extremely comfortable. TV, microwave, mini fridge. no phone or alarm clock, but we didn't need those things. The next morning we heard a knock on the door and was told there was coffee in the office, if we wanted it. We only had the one night to spend, but I would stay here again.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2009

This was the best motel experience I've ever had. Friendly atmosphere; I really felt part of the VCM family during my recent week's stay. The room was exceptionally clean; I particularly noticed that the towels were soft and fragrant! : ) I parked my rental car and hiked back and forth into town a couple of times each day. As others have noted, the walk might be a bit too much for anyone who isn't accustomed to a lot of walking, but it worked fine for me. The manager and maintenance guy went out of their way to make me feel welcome and comfortable - even moving a picture I admired from another room into mine! The weekly rate was very reasonable; I'll be back, and hope to see you there!

We stayed at the Virginia City Motel last weekend, and what a relaxing stay it was! The room was spotless, the bed was comfortable (although being a double, it was a bit small). As far as walking to town, it's pretty much on our maximum length for a casual stroll as you need to walk uphill to get back to the motel. So...you may want to take your car to the bottom of the hill (by the former school building) and walk to town from there.

We had a great time at the motel and in Virginia City; one night was not enough as there is so much to see and do there; we plan on returning to explore the mines, and also to ride the Virginia and Truckee Railroad, which is in the process of being extended to Carson City. We'll be back!!!
