“Great evening in Tonopah”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 25, 2013

We only got to spend one night in the Mizpah but it was a great evening. The bar is really great but the restaurant could use a little help in a couple of areas. The room we were in was one of the smaller room but was no problem because we were told that that's all they had left when I called for a reservation. The room was actually big enough but the bathroom was a bit small. The whole experience made up for the few things that really weren't fitting for a hotel of this quality. The hotel staff was friendly and great. The bartender was really friendly and informative. The only things we found wrong with the whole experience was that I ordered calamari as a starter in the restaurant as a starter and most of it was over cooked and too tough to eat. Also, we ordered the calamari as a starter but the waitress was in such a hurry she actually brought our soup before the calamari and then the calamari as we were taking our first bite of soup. She seemed in such a hurry to get us fed and out of there it turned us off until we got back to the bar. The other food was really good. The soup was a squash and tomato soup. It was delicious, my wife had the days special which was meatloaf and it was really good. I had the chicken fried steak and it was great as advertised. Coffee was put in the hallway by 6:30 in the morning and it was kind of neat to go get a couple of cups. There seemed to be plenty of it.

Room Tip: Call early for your reservation so you get one of the bigger rooms.

We stayed at the Mizpah for one night. Our experience was very positive. Here are the highlights:

History: The hotel is historic and distinctive. Unique statues, antiques, and sculptures make the Mizpah memorable, and the rooms are appointed with period pieces and fixtures. When the Mizpah was completely renovated in 2011, the new owners clearly took the right steps to guarantee comfort and cleanliness while retaining the hotel's history. Additionally, the Mizpah is located within walking distance of the Tonopah Mining Park, a great attraction.

Comfort: The beds are clean and comfortable, with great mattresses, white bedspreads and comfortable pillows. The lobby and lounge are also comfortable and welcoming to guests and locals.

Cleanliness: The Mizpah is spotless; the rooms are thoroughly clean without a hint of dust, rust, or other challenges. I was incredibly impressed that this old building looked so clean and shiny.

Staff: The staff members were very helpful, friendly, and courteous. Every Mizpah employee we encountered was cheerful and eager to assist us. We truly felt welcome at this hotel.

Availability of Food and Drink: The hotel serves (great) coffee on each of the floors of the hotel (far preferable than making weak coffee in your room, as other hotels have you do), and the restaurant on the main floor serves a stellar breakfast. The bar is open until after midnight, and the bartenders serve generously-sized drinks.

In short, I don't have anything negative to say about this property. I can usually find a flaw or area for improvement, but if you ever find yourself in Tonopah, Nevada...make sure to book a room at the Mizpah. I doubt you'll be disappointed, and I'll bet you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Room Tip: The suites are only $20 more expensive than the regular queen/king rooms, and they are great. If you...

Dear AndrewCamp,
Thank you for your thorough review of the Mizpah. The renovation and revitalization of the Mizpah was a labor of love for the Cline family. The attention to detail in restoring the property to it's former glory was tremendous. I am so glad you enjoyed your stay with us and please come back and visit with us in the future.

Place is dope! Alright rate but great looking rooms and lobbies. Huge closet, standing tub bathroom. Just a really great experience and the food at the restaurant is above average, decent priced. Limited tables and lots of people so the staff was rushing. Open from 6am to 10pm.
There's only like five parking spots next to the hotel, but go behind for a slightly larger parking lot, all gravel (when going up the small parking lot to the next one, the curb at the top is kinda high and with the slope it might bump the bottom of your car).
A lot in town is dead. Only a couple casinos around, one up the street open 24hrs and another down the street that isn't open all the time.
Cool bar downstairs.
Best Western was sold out so we booked here the night before, 2 queen bed for $125.
Stairs are decent, elevator is somewhat slow but nice.

We stayed at the Mizpah Hotel on our way from Yosemite to Las Vegas. We arrived late at night and the parking seemed a tad confusing because you're meant to park in a poorly-labeled gravel lot around the back of the hotel across a small street. The entire hotel remains as it was when it was built in the early twentieth century, with the exception of some necessary renovations. The lobby and room were both charming and clean, and the service was entirely sufficient but not noteworthy.

It was like stepping into the past. My husband and I stayed here for one night on our long drive through the desert. We were in awe of this place, the decor and style made you feel like you stepped into a time machine. The staff were very friendly and the food at the restaurant was great and not overpriced. I would recommend this place to anyone passing through.

The atmosphere was historical and elegant with a comfortable atmosphere. The furniture and decor represented it's past from the early 1900's. It was a fun place to browse and take in the history. The room was small but nicely appointed with 1920's or so furnishings. The tub was nice to look at but the curtain made the shower space seem really small. This is a place to go to experience the history as long as you realize the room will be rather basic. We had the mid-priced room so I cant speak to the king room, and I would not have wanted a smaller room.

Dear Pamela Potter,
Thank you for your comments regarding your recent stay with us. The renovation was a labor of love for the Cline family. There was great attention to detail and many original items still adorn the property. We hope you will come back to visit sometime in the future.

When we made our reservations, the gal on the phone said we can park our big rig out behind the hotel and that a lot of folks do. Well we had one heck of a time, when we checked in and told her about it..she said when exactly is a big rig? Is it just a big truck? So just so other people know..this hotel is NOT big rig friendly. We asked for a upper room with a king bed..it was just a bed, tv and bath room. One window that you can barely see out of because of the dirt. The room was clean, good hot water and water pressure. We went down and had breakfast ...we sat there for 15 minutes before the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and brought our menus. Took almost a hour to get our food..I got one refill on my coffee and paid full price..it is instant coffee too. For the price and service and lack of...I don't think I would stay again...
