“good one day stay, nothing more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

lakeside inn is a simple place to stay if you want to be close to the center of south lake Tahoe without paying the high prices you can sometimes pay in the village across the stateline back in California side. the room was OK. nothing fancy but also just what you need, a good bed, shower and quite. we did go through the casino level which is much smaller than the ones in the big hotels across but actually nice with a friendly bar feeling. we had one room for disabled and it was good and accessible. all in all the lakeside casino is good for a night stay if you are traveling all day and not expecting a resort style vacation...

We have stayed at Lakeside a few times, mostly in conjunction with a summer concert show at Harveys. Clean and basic type rooms on the Nevada side a few miles north of Stateline. The Lakeside restaurant, the Timbers, is excellent and we have been there many times over the last 30 years. Very friendly service and good prices and food portions. We ate/stayed there last weekend for the Steve Miller concert. I had the "Trio". Three eggs, bacon, saugage and pancakes for $10.00. Very good value for the money.

Nice hotel by the lake. The back view of the hotel was also picturesque. We booked one night, and our car had unfortunately broken down by the time we got there. Their sympathetic staff allowed us to park our car at their place for two more days for free while we rent a car and continued our Lake Tahoe trip and stayed at other places.

We stayed in town for one night and were pleasantly surprised at the accommodations at the Lakeside Inn. The rooms were spacious and quiet and the front desk personnel were very helpful! Just blocks from the lake and central to shopping and tourism. Not the fanciest of the South Lake Tahoe/Stateline hotels, but it is still a keeper!

If you're looking for the casino-hotel glitz and glamour experience, then you need to stay further down the street towards the California/Nevada border, or maybe hike it all the way over to Reno, as the Lakeside won't be for you. The Lakeside experience is a lot more laid-back, but probably a lot friendlier too, then you'll get at the bigger and fancier places.

The rooms are dated looking, with a lot of exposed wood, and you get a funky step-down tub/shower, but they're clean, and everything (except the heater) worked just fine. The tv is a wall mounted newer flatscreen, but you get cable only, no pay per view, and the remote wasn't the greatest, but it did work. The room heater had instructions posted on how it worked, but we only managed to really get any heat on one of the two nights we stayed here (luckily, it was mid-April, so the nightime temps were only down to the high 30's). The bed was comfortable, but you got a pretty thin bedcovering (double-sheeted with a blanket, with no bedspread), and there weren't any extra blankets in the closet. And the parking was great, right next to your room, definately much closer than you could ever dream of at the big joints down the street. Our view from the patio window was, well, funky too, as our room backed up to the neighborhood across the street, which reminded me of some of the funky neighborhoods we lived in when we went to college many moons ago ! (but again, it looked worn but clean, and we were not bothered by noise or traffic either inside or outside of the hotel area.) I should mention too that the "free wifi" didn't work inside of the room (the old thick wooden walls are probably a good signal killer) , but it did work inside the downstairs casino.

Speakling of the casino, the Lakeside casino is more of a locals place than a Vegas-style place, which suits us just fine. The downstairs sports bar / mexican restaurant area is a comfortable place to kill a couple of hours with low-stakes betting (which is more our style), lots of tv's with sports on, and is a pretty good value. All the help is friendly for the most part -some of the bartenders can be hit or miss, but again, it probably helps to be a local.

Bottom line, the Lakeside is a good value, but just don't expect anything fancy.

Room was ok but I would like to have had a refrigerator. Also WiFi did not work in the room and for it to even connect we had to stand outside the room which was frustrating. We did not use the casino so cannot comment. Also we checked out the restaurants but found them far too expensive, so did not eat there. We were awoken one morning at 7:50am by maintainence work being done either to the room above or to the side of us, which we did not find acceptable at that hour! Overall the stay was OK for a couple of days but I would not like to stay there longer.

We came across this place while walking across the United States on The Great American Walkabout. We even talked about them in our book about our journey. It was unassuming from the road, right on the border between California and Nevada, on the Lakeside. It looks just like a little two-story affair, but the rooms are excellent and so is their casino and restaurant and bar. The restaurant isn't just good food, it is full on cuisine and practically fine dining. I go the chance to speak to the chef, who made us the most incredible breakfast I have ever had. Mexican Style home fries with red and green bell peppers....incredible.

This place really caters to locals, it is certainly the friendliest and least presumptuous casino around. There are a few giant casinos down the road, but nobody there will talk to you, no one wants to know your name, and no one there really cares. We met several of the managers of Lakeside, and they pulled out the red carpet for us. Stacy, Lynn, and Chris even helped us with a quick filming project as I swam in the frozen lake and let me warm up in the hot-tub after.

The exterior of the hotel rooms again are unassuming, they look like a regular motel, but the place is well kept, the rooms are very spacious, and look right out onto Lake Tahoe, with snow-capped mountains in the backdrop. They are rustic themed but really quite nice, way better than I would expect from the outside, it was a treat to stay there. We ended up staying for two nights, so we could rest up before attempting to cross the pass over the Sierra's and down into Carson City, about 22 miles away.

Overall, great people, friendly service, great food, great rooms, no wonder it is the Locals choice!
