Overall I was happy with my stay at the Lakeside Inn. My friends and I went up for some snowboarding and we stayed two nights. The room was large, clean, and looked nice and woodsy. Another positive was the large flat-screen TV with free HBO. (Better TV than nearby 4-star Harvey's had.) While not right on the state line, it's only a short drive to the major casinos, so it's a pretty decent location. Keep in mind that it is a motor lodge-style property, which means there is no indoor route to the lobby/casino. Those who are delicate, might want to consider a hotel as an alternative during the winter.
I did encounter some problems, though nothing too serious. The clock radio at random times made horrendous noises; as if there was an electrical surge or something happening. We had to keep it unplugged. The light bulb in the lamp next to the beds was burned out. The toiletries were the cheapest, poorest quality, Made-in-China stuff available. Would have gone out to my car for some better tissue if it hadn't been so cold. The walls are on the thin side. A group of snowboarders next door were throwing a party late into the night and I could hear everything. (Would have been tempted to crash it if I hadn't been so sore from an actual crash I had whilst boarding earlier.) I popped in ear plugs and slept fine. The final negative was the restaurant. I don't eat mammals, yet I had wayward bacon bits from my friend's salad on mine due to careless preparation. Doesn't sound like a big deal, but I think it's disgusting.
Despite those negatives, I will probably stay there again. It's a good deal if you make plans well in advance. Last minute is another story. They seem to double the prices as they fill up and at that point you're better off staying elsewhere.
