“A ton of fun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013 via mobile

This hotel is great. The rooms are fairly large, but yes they need to be updated. The casino is fun and the restaurants aren't bad either. It's hard to heat their happy hour of $.99 tacos and margaritas. And their 70's/80's themed night at their club on Saturdays is a ton of fun!

Until recently, this hotel was what you might expect for an older hotel and it was fine for an affordable place to stay in South Lake Tahoe. On Saturday night, I was awakened by what sounded like some subtle beeping. After trying to call the hotel operator, front desk and others multiple times with no answer, I made my way down to the front desk. There was chaos. Apparently, it was a false fire alarm and they were working on getting an "all clear" notification over the PA system. It was probably ~1 hour before it was delivered and there was a crowd at the front desk before it was given. The front desk and security didn't seem to know who was really in charge and how to handle the situation. I was very scared for my safety and the crowd was not happy at all. The staff was rude and unhelpful. Apparently, according to the staff, the alarm only should have been for the first floor and not the whole building/tower. That doesn't make me feel safe. There was no evacuation (important if there were a real fire) and the notification to ignore the alarm was not given in a timely manner. Plus, the chaos downstairs didn't make me feel comfortable that if there were a real fire, they would be able to execute the plan properly.

A search of another review site will reveal that this was not the first (but I hope the last) time something like this happened. One event with multiple errors is bad, but a string of them is worse.

This hotel has a little of everything. Modern slots and table games; hip and trendy nightclubs; some very nice restaurants; a decent spa; a nice little gym; and an indoor pool. The only negative - and it's not much of a negative - is that the rooms are a bit dated. They're still nice and the beds are comfortable, but the decor is from the 70s. There is still some of the Roman/Greek motif in the hallways and on the walls, from when it used to be Caesars. But overall, the rooms are comfortable and most offer great views of either the mountains or the lake. Of the four main resort hotels in Stateline, this place beats the Horizon dive across the street, hands down.

We got a great deal on Friday and Saturday nights at this hotel. We arrived and immediately booked spa massages (special deals Mon-Fri). Spa had separate men's and women's sauna and steam rooms with jacuzzis, along with a common indoor pool. We played slots (I played on casino money for hours both nights!) and went dancing at 2 different clubs - both filled with people having a great time, all ages dancing our buns off. On Saturday night they have a 70's/80's themed Boogie Night and hotel guests have free entry.
Accommodations were comfortable and our room was quite large - only negative, no in-room safe. Parking was either valet or self-park - and the hotel elevators were closer to the self-park elevators and garage than the front desk and lobby!

Stayed here for a quick weekend getaway, chose this place because of the location and price. Right on the Main Street, but rooms are very dated. Slot machines are always tight every time we visit so we didn't even bother gambling here. I will say about a year ago for my bachelorette we enjoyed their night club we didn't stay here that time but enjoyed the night life. If you're getting a good deal, $90 or under its worth because of location but no more then that .

I've stayed here before and had a reasonably good experience. So, when a deal appeared for a couple nights mid-week stay, I grabbed it. I guess for the value it was ok. But, a couple serious things concerned me. First, the cleanliness of the room wasn't very good. On the second day of my stay, while the bed was made and towels changed, it was very clear that the bathroom wasn't cleaned, nor was the room vacuumed. Made me wonder what else wasn't cleaned in the room. Some of the staff seemed gruff and not particularly friendly. Perhaps, I hit the place on a bad day, or maybe it's worth it to spend a little more at one of the other places to stay in Stateline/South Lake.

The room: The living area was clean and seemed to be renovated at some point (e.g. the carpet was very clean). However, the bathroom was not clean. Right in front of the toilet, there were some visible stains on the floor (really disgusting), and next to the toilet was an oily and sticky liquid. Further, the ceiling around the shower showed mold. Our room was also extremely noisy. We woke up frequently during the night because of people in the hall, and when the guests next door used their water taps it sounded like they were in our room.

Services: The staff at the reception was the most unfriendly I have ever encountered in the US. Regarding the housekeeping, I called the receptionist to have the floor around the toilet cleaned. When we came back later, somebody had wiped the whole bathroom floor. Unfortunately, it was not clean: The oily and sticky liquid was now evenly spread throughout the whole bathroom. The floor was extremely sticky making noises when we walked on it, and we only entered it with shoes.

Restaurant: We ate in the 24hours restaurant downstairs. I liked the fact that they had several "skinny options" on the menu, of which I took one (chicken). In terms of grease and calories, I think it was an average European meal, and I liked it. My starter's salad was ok but not overly fresh, while my partner's main dish salad was good and fresh. I would have appreciated if the service had taken my dishes away after I had finished.
