“Comfortable, nice, hip and trendy -- a good bargain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 17, 2013

This hotel has a little of everything. Modern slots and table games; hip and trendy nightclubs; some very nice restaurants; a decent spa; a nice little gym; and an indoor pool. The only negative - and it's not much of a negative - is that the rooms are a bit dated. They're still nice and the beds are comfortable, but the decor is from the 70s. There is still some of the Roman/Greek motif in the hallways and on the walls, from when it used to be Caesars. But overall, the rooms are comfortable and most offer great views of either the mountains or the lake. Of the four main resort hotels in Stateline, this place beats the Horizon dive across the street, hands down.

We got a great deal on Friday and Saturday nights at this hotel. We arrived and immediately booked spa massages (special deals Mon-Fri). Spa had separate men's and women's sauna and steam rooms with jacuzzis, along with a common indoor pool. We played slots (I played on casino money for hours both nights!) and went dancing at 2 different clubs - both filled with people having a great time, all ages dancing our buns off. On Saturday night they have a 70's/80's themed Boogie Night and hotel guests have free entry.
Accommodations were comfortable and our room was quite large - only negative, no in-room safe. Parking was either valet or self-park - and the hotel elevators were closer to the self-park elevators and garage than the front desk and lobby!

Stayed here for a quick weekend getaway, chose this place because of the location and price. Right on the Main Street, but rooms are very dated. Slot machines are always tight every time we visit so we didn't even bother gambling here. I will say about a year ago for my bachelorette we enjoyed their night club we didn't stay here that time but enjoyed the night life. If you're getting a good deal, $90 or under its worth because of location but no more then that .

I've stayed here before and had a reasonably good experience. So, when a deal appeared for a couple nights mid-week stay, I grabbed it. I guess for the value it was ok. But, a couple serious things concerned me. First, the cleanliness of the room wasn't very good. On the second day of my stay, while the bed was made and towels changed, it was very clear that the bathroom wasn't cleaned, nor was the room vacuumed. Made me wonder what else wasn't cleaned in the room. Some of the staff seemed gruff and not particularly friendly. Perhaps, I hit the place on a bad day, or maybe it's worth it to spend a little more at one of the other places to stay in Stateline/South Lake.

The room: The living area was clean and seemed to be renovated at some point (e.g. the carpet was very clean). However, the bathroom was not clean. Right in front of the toilet, there were some visible stains on the floor (really disgusting), and next to the toilet was an oily and sticky liquid. Further, the ceiling around the shower showed mold. Our room was also extremely noisy. We woke up frequently during the night because of people in the hall, and when the guests next door used their water taps it sounded like they were in our room.

Services: The staff at the reception was the most unfriendly I have ever encountered in the US. Regarding the housekeeping, I called the receptionist to have the floor around the toilet cleaned. When we came back later, somebody had wiped the whole bathroom floor. Unfortunately, it was not clean: The oily and sticky liquid was now evenly spread throughout the whole bathroom. The floor was extremely sticky making noises when we walked on it, and we only entered it with shoes.

Restaurant: We ate in the 24hours restaurant downstairs. I liked the fact that they had several "skinny options" on the menu, of which I took one (chicken). In terms of grease and calories, I think it was an average European meal, and I liked it. My starter's salad was ok but not overly fresh, while my partner's main dish salad was good and fresh. I would have appreciated if the service had taken my dishes away after I had finished.

This is the second time visiting this hotel/Casino. First visit was just ok. This visit, However was greatly improved. The room was very nice and we were upgraded to a deluxe room, free. (deluxe rooms have jacuzzi tubs.) also lake view. Room was clean, and comfortable. Also, It seemed every time we turned around we were being given a discount or something free. Free tickets to the concert that evening, Free frying pan, (we had a coupon for that, is was a gift of the week thing), There were several food discounts. And the slot machines weren't as tight as they were in the past. (or we were just luckier, who knows.) We had no reason to even try the other casinos. We will definitely return.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for lake view And a deluxe room, if you like jacuzzi's.

Stay away! We watched a cockroach crawl across the bar, all over the glasses and on the machine. The bartender killed the cockroach on the bar and did not even bother to disinfect and wipe the bar off. When we reported to management no one wanted to take ownership, they tried to keep it quiet. We requested to the general manager and was escorted out by 4 security guards and told not to come back. Horrible experience, i would not recommend any one stay here.

Julie P, Manager at MontBleu Resort Casino & Spa, responded to this review, April 3, 2013
Hi Dubowm88,

First, I would like to take a moment to apologize for your experience at MontBleu. We strive to provide a clean, safe and fun environment for all of our guests and spend a great deal of time training our employees to ensure these things take place.

While what you saw was not the way we train our employees to address bugs or cleanliness issues, I want to assure you that we have taken the appropriate steps to follow up on the situation. The day after your visit, the health inspector came to see us and conducted a review of our property. We received high marks and successfully passed the inspection.

Also, since you have brought this to our attention, we have spoken with the employees involved and have offered them guidance on our standards of cleanliness.

I hope you'll give us another chance at MontBleu and also hope that you understand that what you saw over the weekend was not something that normally takes place at our resort. We have taken steps to remedy the situation and are happy to report the successful meeting with our health inspector. Please feel free to follow up if you have any additional questions about the way we addressed this.

Thank you.
- Julie P.
