“Love this place for a layover on the way to Tahoe”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 15, 2013

We stay here when we fly in late and then drive to Tahoe the next day. There are restaurants close by to get a bite before turning in for the night. My husband usually has to work the next day so my son and I venture up and down the freeway a few exits and find all sorts of shopping and activities. The property is well kept. The rooms are clean. The management does a great job creating a welcoming and homey environment. The dining room is small as pointed out in other reviews but the breakfast layout is organized and plentiful.

This may well be the best run RI I have ever stayed in. I normally I have a negative view of the RI brand, but the Reno one has improved my perception of the Residence Inn sub-brand for Marriott.
I only stayed for 1 night, which is not RI's MO, but that was because I arrived with low expectations and wanted to limit exposure to what I thought was going to be ugly.

Rooms - I had a 1BR Studio, it was extremely spacious and comfortable. The room was clean, well organized, and had everything I would need for an extended trip. The room furnishings looked recently remodeled with stainless steel appliances (full kitchen) and new looking desk, flat screen TV, etc.

Amenities - the htoel ahs a full range of amenities, including hot tub, basketball court, grill, outdoor seating, pool, social area, a full lounge which doubles as a seating area for food service, ...

Location - very good for Reno, the Airport, and also if you want to hit North Lake Tahoe. Abit far, but its only about 45 minutes to North Star (South Lake is like an hour to 1.5 hrs). Shorter distance to Mt. Rose.

Facility - The facility looks nice, the carpets seem awfully dated but it looks like they renovated the hotel and remodeled wisely, upgrading the things you will interact with more. The items that are not updated look well maintained - just weird seeing old mixed with brand shiny new objects.

Service - Impeccable. The staff were well trained, understood how to greet a Platinum member, had gifts/snacks ready, and all in all, felt like they wanted to make your stay pleasant. Well trained, motivated, pleasant staff.

Pricing - slightly on the high side, but this particular RI deserves the extra $10-$20 given it now has good facilities, decent rooms, and has a good staff.

I felt quite satisfied with my stay here even though I could have stayed at another Marriott nearby for a little less. The Reno RI makes RI look good. Note - do not expect 5 star accommodations ala a Marquis - but for the smaller chain brands (Courtyards, Fairfield Inns, RIs, etc.) , this is pretty nice. If I had known it was like this I would have been tempted to use this RI as my base of operations for trips into North Lake Tahoe - cheaper and more spacious than staying in South Lake.

Stayed five nights in Septemeber 2012 - drove out to the Air Races each day, about 20 mins up the freeway. Rooms have all you'd want, probably more actually. Barbeque in the courtyard for your use, Walmart is a five min drive away and there is a good pub around the corner.

Room Tip: Perhaps ask for a room not fronting the freeway if they can help you out - but ours was fine really...

Having stayed at a bunch Marriotts, including some Residence Inns, the cleanliness of the facitly, helpfulness of staff (with one exception covered below), and overall quality of stay was average for a Marriott - which is at a good level or i wouldn't have stayed at a bunch of Marriotts.

This particular RI fails greater than average loads. Though checking in at 4:30 PM, room was not going to be ready for another hour due to a full house the night before. The breakfast area really can only service maybe 20 people at a time, which has to be just a small percentage of their guest capacity. Seating is limited and breakfast layout is cramped and inefficient. Having it only open from 6:30 to 9:00 for a combination vacation business clientele doesn't help. Neither does having it staffed by only one person. On one day, the staff person was so far behind a few guests offered to help. On another day, the staffer gave a snarky answer to a simple question. Hot tub was fairly small for a facility of this size.

We love to stay here when we ski at Mt Rose. We get the 2 bedroom suite for the family. It has two baths which is wonderful for a family. The full kitchen is very helpful as we can cook dinner while the kids shower and relax after skiing. The hotel is in the south end of town so only two exits from the Mt Rose Highway. We have been staying here for the last three years.

The room is spacious. You can get a free glass of wine or beer at the managers reception which is nice. We have not been very impressed with the included breakfast. If you are fine with cereal or toast you are good. But if you need more protein at breakfast it's not a great choice. The kids didn't find much to eat that they liked.

Room Tip: I like to ask for a room that faces away from the freeway and into the courtyard.

I've stayed at the Residence Inn three times now and had a positive experience each stay. The rooms are spacious, newly renovated and clean - not a common occurance in Reno. The whole property is also smoke-free - another rarity in Reno.

Business travelers will appreciate the over sized desk, ergonomic chair and good lighting.

The fitness center could be a little bigger as there are only 2 treadmills and an elliptical.

Love Marriott hotels, and the Residence Inn brand in particular. Great service, good breakfast and excellent value. Outside ashtrays where overflowing at both exits, needing more attention, but overall hotel conditional was very good. Would stay again.
