“Dog Friendly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

At the Sands they give you a yellow ribbon for your dog's collar that says he is a registered guest. This lets you go in and out through the casino to take Fido for a walk. all the employees are very dog friendly and it is a log of fun. Also, put all the visitors with Dogs are on the fifth floor. You could hear them yipping at you as you walked by, but they never once bothered us in our room. There is a special "Dog Elevator" that leads directly to a fenced pet area, but they are perfectly ok with you taking your dog on the other elevators, going in and out, etc. Reno is a GREAT town for walking, and our dog loved it.

Prices are just ok. We spend $200 for a two night Fri/Sat stay, night including the $15 per night dog fee. Beers in the sports bar are $1.50. Service is good and friendly.

On the down side, the is the smokiest casino I have ever visited. Ever. Anywhere. Don't know if the air filtration system was too old, broken, or just shut off to save money. Whew!

Room Tip: All dogs go on the fifth floor.

Stayed here because of a golf tournament package. Have been to Reno
several times years ago and realize that Reno has faded as a major
tourist stop. The Sands is an older casino that shows its age, though there
are some positives! Our room was adequate...clean and comfortable.
Carpets in hallways and in casino need replacing. The Sands is not the
place to gamble. Layout of the gaming area is poorly designed. Sports Bar
is tiny...no live horse racing or Keno available. Mel's, the long established
diner, adjoining the Sands, is a good place to eat! I probably won't stay
here again...extremely smoky, limited gaming options, non-existent entertainment shows, free parking(but hangout of the locals and their always begging for change),and overall dingy appearance. Try the Silver
Legacy or El Dorado close by...better atmosphere and gaming.

We were first in a junior suite, which was unsuitable and we went to the front desk and asked for a room with windows that open, so that we could get fresh air. The junior suite smelled smoky, maybe from the circulation of the air from the casino, plus it was a little depressing. We were transferred to another tower and were given room 1252,, which was perfect--a very large room with jacuzzi and stall shower. Our view was good overlooking a parking lot, but also the downtown. Motorcycles took over that parking lot the second day, as a group came in. We were near the Eldorado and the first night went there for the buffet, but the next night tried the Sands Buffet and it was better and cost only $8.99, so went there again the next night. We also liked the Cabana Cafe for the age-50 plus menu, which included $.50 coffee and soda plus a few other items. The casino lacks the glitz of some other casinos, but we enjoyed our trip and would stay there again.

Room Tip: The suite we stayed in was in the Dynasty Tower and I think the junior suite was in the Empress Towe...

Arrived late. Bell person walked to our car and retrieved all our traveling items and delivered them to our room. Such a delight. Room was large and furnished like a 5 star resort. Comfortable bed. All around awesome experience. Will always stay here on any future trips through Reno.

The room dirty stained carpet wrinkles in carpet. This was the upgrade. Keys to rent a car missing. Called security who hung up on me.
Last night, played slots near front desk. Heard words that would make most blush. After hearing these two large guys give little gal at the desk a shovel full from their septic tank mouths they turned to challenge others in their line to fight. They ofcourse all mouth. Knowing huge fines jail time if they were to get physical.
Security finally showed much after the initial show and escorted them out.
At that time on their return o reiterated the hang up response
And the one who hung up on me told me he had taken the call. How ghetto! I told him

this hotel offers GREAT prices on third-party websites. i stayed there twice in sept. and was in two different towers. the rooms in the tower farthest to the east were more updated. both rooms were extremely clean and comfortable. the bed and pillows were very comfortable. they were also VERY large. the views from the upper floors are great. the check-in clerks were always very nice, though the check-in process can be slow and you may have to wait in line to check in. in both cases, the clerks gave me my room request/locations.
the tvs were flat screens with about 30 channels. ice machines down the hall.

found Sands Regency online with special buffet hotel package. Older hotel with plenty of current updates, clean, efficient and courteous staff. Buffet was excellent too. Location of hotel in downtown Reno makes for easy walking around 24 hours. This trip was a driving tour and access was easy to and from via I-580 and US395. Will do again, hopefully soon.

Room Tip: ask for upper floors, gives a great view in any direction.
