“VERY Happy with this hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

The front desk clerk was very friendly and I was checked in quickly. A computer and printer was available at the front desk area so airline check in is possible. The diner located in the casino/hotel (Mel's) was very good with friendly and quick service. The room and it's furnishings were more than adequate, and I was most surprised to find such a large bathroom. It was fabulous! Everything was clean, and everything worked. The best thing about The Sands Regency is the rate - extremely reasonable for the amenities. And finally, the shuttle service to the airport was on time, and my entire stay here was seamless and pleasant. Based on my experience, I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We always stay at the Sands when we visit Reno. It is reasonably priced and has everything you need. The rooms are very large with a comfortable bed, soft sheets, fluffy towels, hair dryer and you can request an iron and ironing board from housekeeping. The pool area is large and clean with a bar. There are plenty of lounge chairs and tables available. You do have to walk across the parking lot and it is street level. There is a gift shop, coffee shop, 3 other restaurants plus a buffet open for dinner. Decent variety of slot machines and tables, sports bar as well as 2 other bar areas. Easy access to parking lots (you don't have to drive around in circles in a large parking garage, although they do have one). There is also a fitness room with a decent amount of machines and weights. It is a 2 block walk up fourth street to "the strip" where the other large hotel-casinos are. If you are looking for fancier accommodations, you may want to stay at one of the higher-priced hotel-casinos, but if you want reasonable prices and a decent, comfortable place to stay the Sands should work. The only complaint I have from our most recent stay is that the ice machine on our floor didn't work during our entire stay.

Room Tip: We have stayed in the Dynasty tower and the Empress tower, and have always had good views.

We arrived on Sat morning at about 12:15am to find a short line with two clerks checking people in. After a short wait we got checked in and went up to our room. I opened the door and the lights were on, there were shoes on the floor, luggage and other personal belongings in the room. We immediately walked out and went back down to the desk. There was a longer line now so I didn’t wait I went right up to the clerk. She apologized and got us another room and a $15 food voucher. We went to the 2nd room. I opened the door and the lights were on again. There were towels on the floor in the bathroom, beds unmade, used cups, the room had not been cleaned. We went down to the lobby desk for the 3rd time. The clerk was shocked. She called the manager at home, there was not a manager on duty, and asked him to come back in. The clerk tried to get us a suite but they were all occupied. She found another regular room and said she would have the manager call us, in the room, when he arrived. The 3rd room was vacant and clean. The carpet had a large tear by the bathroom closet area and the shower handle was loose. So loose that when you set the temperature where you want it it would slowly (about 30 seconds) slide down to hot, very hot!!! So everyone had to keep adjusting the setting through their time in the shower. The manager did call at about 2:30am and gave us one night free $88 and said he could move us to a suite later at or after 3:30pm. We did want to change rooms because of the broken shower. So we switched rooms. There were three elevators to get to the suite rooms but only one of them was working. Going up from the first floor was fine but we kept getting a full elevator going down as it keep getting full by the time it got to us on the 6th floor. We waited way too long to get down. I’m not really upset because we were just there to have fun and we really tried not to make a big deal about it. But basically I will not be staying there again and I simply won’t recommend the Sands to anyone.

the hotel is in good location close to the strip. Price was great for labor day weekend. Decent pool. Big room. Only problem is elevators are slow and one was broken. I had good view. Walls are really thin and you could hear people in hallway and neighbors.

I had an inpromptu stay at the Sands on Sunday, September 2nd and was disappointed. No hair conditioner, no wash cloths, no laundry bags and no coffee maker! Stayed because I heard they had a nice outdoor pool, but you have to cross a busy parking lot and the registration entrance to get there! The room was clean, spacious but located next to the railroad tracks. So much for a restful nights stay. I was disappointed for $95 in Reno. Front desk, conceirge and the room attendant that I encountered were all very nice and friendly, so I give them kudos for that.

Room Tip: Ask if it is next to the train tracks or an elevator if you plan on trying to sleep.

the hotel aspect of the sands use to be old fashion style, basically a place to sleep and stay, where the staff left you alone, and you came and went, that was it, no frills, and there was nothing fancy.

now, the rooms have been redone! the beds are new! comfortable! and the room accessories are more stylish! the only thing they could really do is remove the old clunky television sets and put in new flat screen's and make the satellite channels better.. im sorry, but not everyone who comes to stay in Reno is there to gamble.. some people like to stay in their room, or go to dinner.

the Sands DOES have one of the best buffets in town too.. cheaper priced, not as big as others, but still, good. recommend trying it at least.

giving it 5 out of 5 because of the recent redo of their interior rooms, and the quality of check in/check out. their staff is really friendly and helpful, although one staff member at the pool was quite rude, the manager gave my partner and i free passes to the buffet for the inconvenience.

Room Tip: check out rates on sites like hotels.com or priceline first before booking directly on their website...

This place is disgusting! Gross, Ghetto, Nasty, Dirty. I can't believe I made it through one night! Every hotel in Reno was booked, so this was our last choice. I read through some of the reviews and tried to be optimistic because of the 1 or 2 positive reviews we saw, however there was NOTHING positive about this place. Julie in reservations is the RUDEST employee I have ever come into contact with. There is NO customer service, no smiles, no hello's, or "good mornings". The room had smoke burns all on the carpets, and the desks, the shower was dirty....UGHHHHH..too much to say...so stay away!!

Room Tip: Don't fool yourself on the remodeled ones... that's one of the rooms we were "upgraded...
