“Still being Renovated”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

The Rooms are seperated into three different towers: GSR Place, GSR Hotel, Summit at GSR. We stayed in a partially renovated room in the GSR Hotel Tower. Our room was not fully renovated. The bathroom had old fixtures and the clock radio was from the 80s. My in-laws room was the same on another floor in the same tower. Although the room was non smoking, we could smell smoke. It is an older property. The lobby is beautiful, reminds me of some Vegas. The wait to check in is horrible, over 30 minutes.
The have go-go dancers in the bar/lounge area which is visible from the lobby, so beware if you have kids.
We booked this hotel because of the Beach Pool. It was a huge disappointment. The sand was scarce and there is not enough places to sit. Its a long walk from the room.

I might return if i get a good deal to check out the bowling alley and theater.

Make sure you use the Valet Parking

Room Tip: Use valet parking or you will have a long walk to the reception.

I stay here whenever I have business in Reno, which is usually several times a year. The property is older and shows it. The downstairs Casino is smoky and dark. The rooms are mostly nice and because non-smoking rooms are available, more pleasant than the lobby would lead one to expect. Staff have always been helpful. There are several good restaurants which pull the rating higher than it would otherwise be. The facility is easy to find and at a good location for getting around Reno and the Tahoe-Northern Nevada. We have hosted several business dinners at the GSR and people enjoyed them. Both Briscola (Italian food) and Charlie Palmer Steak are under the same general management and provide good food and good service.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the pond seem quieter.. Reno never gets dark at night..but there is less traffic near t...

I don't know why there are any less than positive reviews on GSR-We loved it!! We had a minor issue that is not worth reporting. we were treated VERY well and will indeed stay there again! We were there on business and left with alot of great memories. They made sure at check in that we were on the side of the hotel to see the balloon races rite from our window. The best place to eat hands down was the Cafe Sseirra! Better than the buffett!

Spacious level sites, plenty of room to negotiate turns / easy in - easy out. Parking sites are also separated quite nicely. Immediately adjacent to river walking path, and literally in the shadows of the hotel/casino allowing convenient walk to shops, restaurants, and of course, the casino. Nice laundry room and convenience store. As a guest here you have access to hotel resort pool and gym. We spent a week and will definitely be back.

We frequently spend a few nights at this hotel/casino. Besides the usual attractions they have a huge bowling facility, movies for $3 and a driving range. Would suggest staying here any time of year. They are always friendly and helpful.

We had decided to stay at this hotel because of the OneRepublic concert at the property. Right at check-in the staff was friendly and helpful. The room was decent, with minor maintenance issues, but we were ideally just looking for a place to crash after the concert. When we brought up the issues to the desk clerk/supervisor at check-out, just to let them know, we weren't expecting anything in return. Without hesitation, the awesome representative gave us a discount for the inconvenience! It was a nice surprise!! We really appreciated it. Room was clean, location was quiet. (Rm 584)

My husband and I stayed here for one night because we were seeing a show. We stayed on the Summit Concierge floor which is apparently their nicest set of rooms and we were a bit disappointed. The room was remodeled and very clean but seemed lacking. The nice points: bathroom was nicely appointed with marble floors and a shower with awesome water pressure. There was a nice "butlers pantry" that included a fridge and microwave. The view was also quite nice from the 26th floor overlooking downtown. The not so good: the decor looked like it was trying to feel like Vegas but missing somehow -- the white alligator chair and headboard looked and felt very cheap/uncomfortable. There was no table to sit at which changed our original plans of having room service breakfast to checking out and going elsewhere the next morning. The website also lists that they provide Fiji water and bath robes. We were provided "GSR" brand water (not figi) and no bathrobes. In fact, there's a little placard in the bathroom letting you know the cost of items should you choose to take them home and so now I feel like I have to check my credit card to make sure they don't bill me for taking a robe that was never provided to begin with. These aren't major issues, but considering we paid for one of the nicest rooms available, I was expecting better.

To compound it, we paid for the "concierge" level and apparently the supervisor that checked us in gave us the wrong keys. When we went down to the concierge suite for drinks during happy hour our card didn't work to let us in. We ran into another couple on the service phone whose cards also didn't work saying they were trying to get help but the service phone was broken too. We went downstairs and had to get new cards reissued and were told we were given the complete wrong passes to begin with. We weren't able to make it back to the concierge suite by that time so I felt a bit miffed we paid for that and never got to benefit from it due to poor service.

Also, to kill some time before the show we decided to go play a round of mini golf and it was so bad it was actually embarrassing to be there. It looks like it was put in in the 60's and not touched since then! The green was all ripped up and the faux brick sidewalks deteriorating. We paid $6 pp and feel like we were totally ripped off.

Overall it was just okay, but we wouldn't come back here. As a local, I hate to review our hotels poorly but I just did not enjoy my time here. I hope with all the renovations they are doing it turns around but they've got a ways to go to complete with Atlantis or Peppermill in my opinion.

Room Tip: All the rooms are pretty close to the elevators due to the configuration of the building which is ni...
