“Good for Reno”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 3, 2013

We have stayed here many times. If I was writing this review 7 years ago it would have got one star. Most of the rooms have been remodeled since then. The first room we stayed in 7 years ago had a mattress that sagged in the middle, warn furniture, and smoke smell in non smoking rooms. Now the rooms have new mattresses, new furniture, and clean new carpet, new paint smell. You can still get connecting rooms which is the big draw for us having two young kids but I'm worried that now all the rooms have been remodeled that we will be priced out of getting two rooms. It was always a double edged sword with this place. Dumpy rooms but they were cheap so we could justify getting two. You can still get cheap rooms midweek but no more on the weekend. The buffet is TERRIBLE so do yourself a favor and don't eat there. The cafe is so/so. Actually the food options are not the best so that is why it is only 4 stars. We have ate at Charlie Palmers before which is good but super pricy. I don't like having to pay extra for side dishes when ordering a $40 steak. This summer Johnny Rockets was closed for renovations but nobody at the hotel knew. The The Cirque show is good again this year but not as good as last year's Cirque. Still worth it if you get the room/show deal for a good price. It is a fun family getaway because they have bowling, mini golf, driving range into water (we got rained out of this though), arcade, go carts, swimming pool with beach, and sports fan shop.

We stayed here a toal of 4 nights for a convention. Everything in the room was in good working order. Beds were comfy and the AC worked great. We were on the 20th floor.
The only negative things I can say is the wait line at check in was sloooow, but not as slow as the elevators for the 18th and upper floors wait time to get a lift was crazy long.
Buffett was decent, place did not reek of smoke, but certian areas you could realy smell it. Not sure about the GoGo Dancers on top of the slots so close to the enterance is a good idea. The Pizza joint on site needed some supervision, while friendly and the pizza was good, it took over 1hr for them to cook it and we were the only ones in the place, The place is going under a renovation so some areas there is construction. For Reno and place to stay, this is not a bad choice, worth it if the price is right,

We have stayed at this resort twice. The cafe we ate at twice and never again. Big disappointment. They need some quality control. The food was not cooked as to how we ordered it. We had to wait along time for coffee. the coffee makers in the rooms dont work. We also ate at Elements, it was okay but not organized.
We went to relax and there were kids running all over the casino, in the hot tub. People smoking in the non smoking and nobody saying anything.
I realize dogs are allowed to stay there but allowed in the resturants - Really?...

The rooms were really nice, but I was kind of upset that there was no bathroom fan (I know it is a little thing, but it bothered me). I was really ticked off by the bell desk. We waited almost an hour for somebody to come...and it wasn't a weekend or anything. The elevators were extremely slow and always full, so many times we'd have to take an up elevator to go down, which was faster than waiting. The pool was good, and there were plenty for kids to do. There is no loitering in the arcade, which is understandable, but I stood waiting for my friend for less than five minutes and I was yelled at by a security guard. I also was yelled at for having half my foot on the carpet of the casino, talking to my aunt, who happened to be smoking at a table. It ticked me off a little because there's no way I was going to gamble and it was half a foot. I had a much better experience at the Peppermill, but the Grand Sierra wasn't horrible.

We stayed here a couple of nights for a convention in late June. Everything in the room was in excellent condition and in working order. (fridge, coffee maker, microwave, etc.) The only thing negative I can say about the hotel is the elevators for the 18th and upper floors (we were on the 23rd floor). The wait time to get one of five was terrible even when not many people were waiting to use them. Access to the airport is close and freeway ramps convenient, 2nd or Mill st on the 395 freeway. Being just north of the airport I didn't notice any noise from the planes coming or going. The staff throughout the hotel were great to work with. Plenty of parking. Definitely a place to stay depending on the price you can get.
