“Rooms are OK”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2013

I didn't like the hotel itself, noisy casino, and a bit cheesy, but the room was OK. No fridge, no coffe maker, a nice room but not totally clean. The exercise room is a joke, a total after thought(no free weights, and the weight machines were all broken), the pool is outside, good restaurants. The A/C worked well and didn't blow on me all night, bed was OK, not great. If you get a deal, stay, but be ready for noise and busyness on the main floor. I would say it's more a Casino than a hotel. I would give it 2.5 stars and it rates at 3.5??? It is not in town, it's 5 minutes from airport and a ways from everything.

I found the rooms to be comfortable and loaded with great ammenities. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. They put on great events and the ballroom was set up well. The only downside was that the buffet was very over priced. The pool is one of the best in all of Nevada Casino's.

The resort is going through major changes, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The resort fee should be clear before booking, also the resort wanted to charge my group $50 a day per person for incidentals. We pre-paid all fees before getting there by credit card and they wanted more money when we arrived. A manager did wave the cost, but we could not use any room amenities( in room movies...etc.) The bathroom in the rooms are wonderful, needs a sofa or small table in the living area, but it was very doable. Looks like when the construction is over it could be an "over the top" resort.

Room Tip: Check the rooms pictures on line before booking.

This was a reunion of 32 people from all over the country. We had all worked together over the last 3 or 4 decades and most were retired.
I was tasked with making the hotel and catering arrangements. We picked this hotel because it is a Union hotel (a preference for this group) and I must say they exceeded all my expectations. The event staff were very helpful and professional, the events we planned went off without a hitch. I recommend renting a VIP Cabana at the "Beach" if you have a large party as it is a great place to gather during the day and a good value as well. We had it from 10 am to 2 pm which was perfect. The catering/food was delicious and a good value. I splurged at the Rim restaurant and over ate on really good sushi.
This is a family friendly resort with lots of things for kids to do.

Stayed there for a family reunion - adults, teenagers, small children....great RV park next to hotel with mostly pull throughs....fun stuff for the kids and adults to do....BUT I COULD NOT BELIEVE THE RESORT WOULD CLOSE THE SWIMMING POOL FROM 2 TO 10 PM ON SUNDAY SO ANYONE OVER 21 COULD WATCH DANCING GIRLS BY THE EDGE OF THE POOL FOR THOSE 8 HOURS.....AND ITS SUMMER, SO WHAT DO THE LITTLE KIDS DO ON THAT DAY??? everything else costs money but swimming was the free thing. Highly disappointing....we will go again because of the location from our various family members as it is half way point but will check out on sunday.

The redone standard rooms are a big improvement, from the sorry condition they were in.

Rooms nice size, comfortable bed, lots of nice pillows, nice linens, but towels tired and worn out. One large empty wall, that was screaming for a sofa. One chair, no light near it for reading. No table and chairs.. ordering room service one of us had to sit on the edge of the bed to eat off the roll in cart..YIKS, some chairs, please!

No coffee maker, called housekeeping to ask for one, told that our room type does not qualify for a coffee maker...is'nt that special? Most all hotels will bring you one if they are available, Which I know they are at GSR, because we have had them in other room types, many times. They do very pricey remodel and cannot come up with a $10.00 coffee pot? Sorry to go on about it, but it is one of my sore points. I will say that the 2nd street deli, by the elevators does offer good coffee and breakfast sandwiches, as well as a tray to bring to room.

All in all this is a nice hotel, that is doing a lot of improvments, some noisy constuction going on. But our room very quiet, a comfortable nights sleep was enjoyed.

Room Tip: This place is huge, if you don't want a long walk to your room, ask for something close to elvat...

We stayed here because of a promotion they gave us. My husband had surgery and it was convenient to stay here. It is okay as casino resorts go but it would not be my first choice in Reno. We are staying here for Hot August Nights and, like all the rest of the hotels, they are jacking up their prices to a ridiculous amount. This is so frustrating when you are trying to enjoy a car show in which you are providing the attraction by bringing your classic car, and they want to take advantage of you by having these crazy high rates.
