“Terrific deal, well-appointed rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 14, 2013

I found this hotel on Priceline for a price that is too low to even mention. We got a Grand Suite II on the 23rd floor with a spectacular view. The room was really large with a king-sized bed, couch, nice desk, chairs and stainless refrigerator and microwave. The bathroom was large with a huge shower. The bed was comfortable, and the artwork in the room was pretty. The hotel lobby and casino feel a little dated. There are three or four nice restaurants in the hotel, a pool, workout room, and some retail shops. We had a great stay there.

Room Tip: Try to get one of the suites.

Nice Hotel but - they throw hidden fees into the bill calling it a resort fee or some nonsense. It was not disclosed to me when I checked in it was simply added to the bill at the end of the visit.

So do not be surprised.

Lovely comfortable deluxe room, good ammenities incl. restaurants bars & wonderful service @ a very fair price.
Would stay again, but a better positioned room may have better views than the blah hotel roof.

Room Tip: Check out this aspect as there are some good Sierra views.

We stayed at the GSR for a quick 2 night stay for a weekend volleyball tournament. We had an updated Summit room. Very nice and spacious. The room had a fridge, microwave, large shower. I can't complain about one thing in regards to the room. The bed was one of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. Perfect, slept like a baby. Even my wife, who has difficultly getting comfortable in hotels; mainly due to the beds slept like a baby.

Like others have said, GSR has something for everyone. Due to our limited time, we didn't get a chance to do most things offered. I got in around 1230am. Johnny Rocket's was open and a burger sounded good. Too bad it was a major disappointment. A little pricey for a burger meal too. When I got back to the room, I noticed the room service burger/fries was cheaper. The breakfast brunch was real good. The 24 hr cafe was good too. We got back after midnight from a day of watching volleyball. Just knowing this place was available...so we didn't have to run around Reno at such a late hour was nice. They served drinks too!! That was appreciated. Since we had our youngest teenage daughter, this was a safe haven to just get some late night food. The casino was nice. GSR was convenient to most locales we needed: Convention Center and a few others local places. Reno isn't my most favorite places in the world...we mainly just go there for volleyball tournaments, but if we do ever go back w/o volleyball in mind. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.

GSR has the biggest rooms in Reno and the Summit rooms have a safe, microwave, coffee maker, and refrigerator. 5 minutes from the airport with a driving range, bowling alley and many other features not found anywhere else in Reno.

Room Tip: Ask for a Summit room.

The resort leaps from its surroundings, a large golden block standing high above the adjacent airport and flat Reno. Although we sat for a while in the huge driveway waiting to be noticed by the valet and porterage staff, when they did arrive they quickly transferred us to our high suite overlooking the airport. The room was well furnished with a large and comfortable bed, TV, wifi and room service all efficiently provided. We were not there to gamble, so the $123 price for the Concierge Suite on the 25th floor was well received.
We did take advantage of the Charlie Palmer Steak restaurant nestled amongst the twirling pokies on the Casino floor. We shared both our oyster starter and the excellent petite New York strip - full of juice and flavour. The very knowledgeable sommelier led us to a delicious Californian Shiraz and explained the background of those distinctly American breeds, Zinfandel and Meritage.
