“Average Experience...Again”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2012

We were offered a coupon for two free nights, and since we needed to be in Reno, we took advantage of the offer. The section they put us in was the older, rundown section, but clean. Having a free room for two nights limits the complaining, but i wouldn't want to pay for same when other options in Reno are available.

We decided to do the two for one buffet, and were disappointed with the overall quality. The previous night we ate at the Cantina and had a great experience with the food and the service.

Stay away from the bar near the coffee shop. The drinks are small and not poured from the bottle, giving them a strange taste. The Cantina is the place for drinks.

If we were to choose to eat there again, we would eat at the Cantina or Johnny Rocket's and avoild the buffet.

Room Tip: Choose the newer remodeled section. All rooms in the hotel are quiet.

“Great hotel, good restaurants, nice casino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2012

We stayed in one of the newer tower rooms, which were very nice and huge! The art deco decor was pleasant and the amenities in the room (microwave, refrigerator, large couch, oversized chair, flat screen TV) were wonderful. The air conditioning barely worked in our room and two other couples had the same issue. We also had some serious issues with the bathroom as did two other couples staying on the same floor. The bad design of the faucet/sink combo ensures that the water will splash out on you and the floor if the water is turned on more than a trickle. Horrible design. The worst issue was that my blow dryer/brush turned off every 5-10 seconds when I used it as it constantly overheated. My friend had the same issue with her curling iron turning off constantly and they were two rooms down from us. My advice - bring an adapter to use in the bathroom. There are too many amps/volts (?) coming out of the plugs.

The casino is large without being confusing, the bars are attractive and the sports book is huge. The machines were pretty tight, though, so only 1 of 12 of us actually won anything.

We ate at the Cantina one night, which was average, but there are several restaurants on the property so there are choices readily available.

The hotel is not close to any of the other casinos/hotels downtown, so you're not close enough to walk anywhere, but we got a great rate and enjoyed the hotel. Outside, there was a small racetrack and bungy cord ride (?) that must be available in the summer that looked like fun!

Room Tip: Stay in one of the newer tower rooms, and the even numbered rooms will give a view of the mountains.

“Excellent Choice for Visitors”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

I stayed at the Grand Sierra Resort in December 2012 and I was thoroughly impressed. I received the highest level of customer service of any trip I've ever been on, including a trip through Europe where I stayed in 4 and 5 star hotels. I locked myself out of my room and was immediately assisted with minimal delay on getting back into my room. The room itself was nice also. It was EXTREMELY spacious and there were even a few chairs and a couch surrounding a coffee table. I booked my travel through their Black Friday special and received two nights for less than $100 and even received two coupons for 2-for-1 at the Elements Buffet. The best part was it was seafood buffet. You can't eat at any upscale buffet in the world for $24 for two people, especially on seafood buffet night! Everything about this trip was perfect and I will ABSOLUTELY be staying with this resort again.

And props to the marketing/public relations team. I found out about the deal through the Twitter website operated by the team and that's why I decided to stay there in the first place. Kudos on a job well done to the staff at GSR!

“Wonderful Stay at GSR!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 10, 2012

We stayed at the resort in December of 2012. We were very impressed with most everything and will definitely be back! We made our reservations through their website on "Black Friday" and recieved AMAZING deals on the rooms!! We stayed in the "Grand Summit Suite" on the 19th floor and were very impressed with the decor, cleanliness, and comfort of the room. The entire bathroom is marble. The shower is wonderful, lots of water pressure (which is important!!) TV in the bathroom, large flat screen in the room. Plenty of space in the double queen room with nice view of the pool and mountains. The pool was closed due to weather being cold, but we wouldn't of wanted to swim anyways. Great deal on breakfast (2 for 1 buffet at Cafe Sierra). Not the best breakfast ever but 10.99 for 2 people, all you can eat. Make your own omelette station and lots of other things to choose from, young children eat for free. We also used a 2 for 1 buffett at Elements Buffet for dinner! Great deal and lots to choose from! Starbucks, 50 lane bowling alley, arcade, shops...all sorts of things to do right at the hotel! Valet parking, bellman to bring everything right to your room, very convenient with the kids! Close to things to do, events center, other casinos. Right off of 395. Would definitely be back! We were very impressed!!!
