“Better than expected”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2012

We stayed @ the Grand Sierra June 7-10, 2012. After ready some reviews we weren't sure what we would get. We booked via Expedia and requested a renovated room. We got what we requested, the new rooms were VERY nice & larger than average. (we met a couple there who did not get a new room, they hated the room they got)comfortable king beds, large flat screen and a small flat screen in bathroom. Larger than average microwave and fridge, and a single cup coffee maker. The bathroom was nicely tiled floor to ceiling & it had extra large shower. The casino it self was nice, not as large as I would have liked, the slots were tight. The cocktail waitresses were pleasant and came around often. The buffet was ok, nothing spectacular. The center bar, was nice and played dance music each night, the dance floor was small, but we had a good time. The pool area nice, with sand and lots of chairs as well as a grill and bar! The hotel is still undergoing some renovating, so the bathroom was a long walk if you were playing slots, also the casino had a large section with slots, but was roped off and still being renovated. All in all it was a pleasant experience. It is a short 1.9 mile drive to downtown Reno.

Room Tip: Request a renovated room, if you get one you won't be dissapointed!

I have stayed at the Grand Sierra about 5 times. Each and every stay is great. I definitely recommend giving it a try. It is a great place for kids as well. They have a large arcade, with a tumble town for smaller children. The bowling alley is well kept, with a lot of lanes. Also, the go kart track in the parking lot area looks like a lot of fun. They also have a sky screamer swing. It seems great for the teenage group. The Grand Sierra also has a Johnny Rocket's and a Round Table Pizza. There is also a steak house, and sushi restaurant, cafe, buffet, grab and go cafe, and a Starbucks. The Grand Sierra also has about three regular bars, one is a lounge type bar, one is a sports bar, and one is a country style bar. Also the pool is suppose to be a bar at night in the summer. The Beach is the bar at the pool I believe. Then three of the restaurants have bars in them. They also have a wine bar. The Casino area is also a good size. I haven't tried the driving range yet, but I have watched others slam golf balls into the man made lake, that is the driving range. It is surprising to see, when someone actually hits a ball on one of the islands. Also just a tip for your future stays at the Grand Sierra, be sure to look for their free two nights stay coupons on the internet, the coupon codes come in handy. I have only paid for a room once there. Also the rooms are spacious, always clean when we stay there. I have never had any problems. The staff has always been very courteous. Another thing that you may want to do is join the players club, that is because sometimes when you need to use the free nights stay coupons, some of them will only work if you are a players club member. the Grand Sierra is about a mile from Virginia Street, so if you plan to visit Reno's Mini Strip, be sure to to have a car or plan on calling a taxi. On a side note, if you need anything else while you are there, there is a large Wal-Mart across the street. Be sure to try the Grand Sierra at least once, I don't think you will regret it. Have fun!

Room Tip: If you are traveling with children, try to get closer to the elevator. The hallways are pretty long...

Sorry, but some amenities are expected in a hotel. Yes, there's a Starbucks downstairs with a 20 minute line, but I want coffee now.

And the WiFi is pretty poor as well. I'm here on business trying to file reports and the connections are spotty at best. See how cranky I am without coffee?

We got a super deal on this trip, really glad we didn't pay full price. Room was nice size. But needed work, leaky faucet , broken lamp. Room was clean however and staff was nice. Wouldn't stay again probably ....

I stayed at the GSR for a business meeting. Flew in from Toronto on Sunday and left on Tuesday, with Monday being meeting day.

The hotel is currently undergoing a much needed renovation. The new parts look fresh and lively, the old parts look tired and worn.

My room was spotless and very large. Everything in it was clean, and kept that way. The bathroom was lovely and spacious. I enjoyed having room to turn around. My only wish was that there be a bit more lighting for the night.

The pool area is nice, with a bit of sand to make you forget you are surrounded by concrete. The restaurants were okay. I have had better buffets in Nevada, but Charlie Palmer was fabulous.

The service throughout was spectacularly good.

The only sad thing was the casino - where throughout my stay it was essentially deserted.

Grand Sierra Resort is a lovely place… It’s dated in decor, though they are undergoing renovations right now!
They have a distinction between the Smoking and Non-Smoking Slot Rooms…
The Dinner Buffet was filling and offered good variety.
I had a mini-facial at the spa… that was wonderfully relaxing.

To took up an offer on Living Social and we are really happy we did!

Room Tip: We had a few Service/Maintenance requests that were addressed very quickly! We had a great 'Dea...
