“Awsome visit to an animal preserve: tigers, bears, fox, mountain lions”

Twent minutes outside of Reno, in the desert, is a wonderful animal preserve (rescued animals) where in their natural habitat, staff cares for owls, birds of prey, white tiger, mountain lions, fox, lynx, bears, etc. You can see the animals close up...admission is reasonable and goes to help the animals. A memorable trip and a few hours well spent away from the hustle and bustle of Reno.

Ice cream, snacks, water available. Nice bathrooms. Great, knowledgeable staff.

See photos of the animals on the website, as well as special events. We went to watch the birds of prey feeding.

We were lucky to be in town for the once a year twilight tour. We loved it! Our 7 yr old(normally must be 8 but made an exception) was out in front leading the way couldn't wait to see what's next. She balks at walking after hiking in Yosemite for the last few days but just couldn't get enough here. Ages for us, adults down to a 15 yr old & 7 yr old. All the animals were active and many were playful and showing off for us though they are in a natural habitat. From the big cats to the littlest fox, all was amazing. I'll probably never go to a zoo again. These wonderful people have a true love for what they do. Totally non profit and truly deserve funding. We gave what we could and think everyone should visit. No frills as the animals are what matters here. Definately well cared for and loved.

“A must for any animal lover”

I found this searching for the web one day and said the first time the weather was right and I was in Reno I was going there. And thank goodness we did. A wonderful experience seeing these animals some even endangered cared for and given enough room not only for you to enjoy but also for them The Ark cares for wildlife that often can not be returned to nature for one reason or another. The cheetahs are absolutely spectacular, and now they even have some young bear cubs who had lost their mother.
And even the gift shop is special and reasonably priced.

“I WOULD VISIT THIS PLACE AGAIN”

My companion and I just returned from a short 4 day holiday to Reno and had a most wonderful day at this wildlife sanctuary. It is off the beaten path but well worth the drive. The entrance fee is reasonable and once inside you realize what good work these people do for the animals. The staff is very, very friendly and have a wealth of information to share with you. It is not a Zoo, it is a facility that takes in wild animals that are mistreated, disabled, orphaned and or abandoned and helps them live a safe life. There are bears, a tiger, wolves, coyotes, birds of prey, different species of foxes, cheetahs, bobcats, and other different species of wild cats. The viewing areas are great with large plexiglass windows for taking pictures and they are also shaded.
ONE IMPORTANT NOTE: I am handicapped and thought at first I would not be able to do the trails they are all natural no concrete. The facility, for a minimal charge of $10.00, rents golf carts. So this place is friendly for all, even those of us who can't get around so well. Would I go back, yes. Would I take friends, yes. Would I tell others, yes.
For anyone that has any love for animals and even if you don't this is a wonderful facility.

“Great place for families, older folks or couples! Worth exploring!”

I went here with my Step-Father not knowing what to expect, and am glad we made the drive there from the airport. The workers & volunteers are very friendly/informative. We were able to see all of the animals, & I feel better knowing they are all rescued from otherwise bad situations rather than just on display like at a zoo. Golf cart rental available for my S.Dad, who has trouble walking, was only $10.00. Great value, esp. for families or people on a budget. Will return w/my husband & would recommend to anyone flying into Reno.
