“Great place to spend the night!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 1, 2012

Our family stayed here for one night after flying in to Reno, before heading to Lake Tahoe. We had (2) King rooms each with a sofa bed, for our family of 6 (two adult couples and two children). The hotel is newly renovated and feels fresh and new. The rooms were an average size, well appointed, and very clean. Our beds were comfortable, and the in room amenities were great! The kids were not impressed with the sofa bed, but we don't believe that any really are!

The spacious lobby has plenty of room to gather as well as a bistro where you can purchase lunch or dinner. We spent several hours playing games and visiting in the lobby area and were never bothered. It also serves as seating for the bistro, so we made sure to clear out before meal time.

We ate breakfast, and the food was delicious. You can tell that it's a new concept for the hotel, but the staff was very pleasant and the service more than made up for the fact that they were still getting their bearings with the new bistro.

We didn't have a car, and our only complaint was that the hotel does not offer a shuttle as most others in the city do. It wasn't bad cab fare, but we did have to return to the airport to get our car the next day (we came in a day early and weren't able to get the car early), which was inconvenient. The front desk did take care of calling a cab for us and they arrived exactly on time.

We don't care for the gambling/casino scene, and there was none of that in site. It was in a pleasant, neighborhood, close to several restaurants and even a Target. Try the italian restaurant next door -- it was fantastic!

The hotel was a great option for our purposes, and we would return again. I can't say enough about how pleasant the staff was and how much we enjoyed our short stay. If you had a bad experience during construction, give this hotel another shot. It was a great stay.

Construction workers will wake you up bright and early, hammering on the wall next door. The manager will then tell you that it is your problem because his staff has no way of knowing where the contractors will be working on any given morning when rooms are assigned to guests. Take your business elsewhere where the management knows what is going on in their hotel.

The hotel renovation project is now complete! Our guests can now enjoy our newly updated guest rooms and public space without any disruption related to work being conducted at the hotel. The hotel management and staff made every effort to minimize the effect of the construction on our guests. Now that the project is done, we encourage anyone coming to Reno to stop by and see the newly opened Courtyard Bistro.

Remodel small rooms. Quite pricey for the size of the room. Plus they charged $5.99 for the breakfast buffet, that wasn't anything special.

The Courtyard by Marriott Reno is pleased to share that our hotel renovation project is now complete. Along with updated guest rooms and public spaces, the hotel is now serving breakfast in our new Courtyard Bistro. Guests have the option to purchase items made to order from our breakfast menu or take Grab and Go items with them if they are short on time. It's a New Stay at Courtyard by Marriott Reno!!

The fact that this hotel is under construction is really not a bit deal, but wow, are the rooms tiny! I haven't seen a room this small since I stayed in NY. Very, very small and if you have two people in the room, you will need to manuever around each other.

What's good: The location. Close to the airport and shops. The hotel is quiet and the staff is great. Lots of easy parking.

What's average: The breakfast in their facility. Very minimal and for those of us with OCD, it's a nightmare watching people coughing and sneezing by the food and letting their kids pick up food and utensils, then put them back...ew.

Our family stayed here for two nights during the May 2012 annular solar eclipse. It was a great place to stay--clean, roomy, comfortable, totally nonsmoking, and with a great view of the mountains from our fourth-floor room. Very close to Starbucks, Whole Foods, and other shopping and restaurants which made it super convenient. An unexpected bonus was the miniature golf course next door, which the kids loved. If you want to avoid the smoky, seedy casino hotels look no further. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Room Tip: Stay on the fourth floor and ask for mountain view.

After two nights here, I have mixed feelings. The rooms are recently renovated, large, and nice and the staff have been very nice. As far as that goes, it would be excellent.

On the other hand, they charge $6 for the type of breakfast that is free at comparable hotels - continental breakfast is $4.

Many rooms are said to have refrigerators (and microwaves?) but ours had neither. We were able to request a refrigerator but could not get it delivered until the next day because the maintenance man had already gone home. We are road trippers and really needed one when we arrived. The maintenance main said more were on order.

The maid service was strange. When we left the room we had left the private (4th floor) balcony door open because the weather was nice. When we got back in late at night, the door was still open, the room was freezing and the two pillows we had used the night before were on our bed while there was a pile of 6 pillows in the middle of the other bed.

Pillows were very soft with none giving any support for my wife's neck - she has arthritis. We asked for a firmer pillow which was promised but never got one.

For these reasons, I have downgraded a pretty nice hotel to just average.

Room Tip: If you need a refrigerator, ask in advance.

We're an extended family of 5 adults and 2 grand kids so we reserved two rooms. Called ahead a couple of days prior as we wound up with two reservations as the weekend was booked solid due to events in Reno including the NCVA volleyball tournament at the Convention Center which is why we were in Reno. Requested to have the rooms close and was surprised to find that the rooms were adjoining which is ideal. Also requested a crib and refrigerator and was able to get these in the baby room. Tried to get a fridge in the other room, but these are in short supply so they didn't fill that request.
The rooms are not very large with a King bed and a sofa bed. Once you open up the sofa bed, there's not much room to move about. So nothing special about the rooms. King bed was comfortable but sofa bed was the usual.
The hotel is set off from the main Virginia street so need to keep your eye out for it. It is close to the Neil off and on ramp to 395 which makes it easy to get around Reno. The convention center was no more than one mile and there is no other close off-ramp from the south so the hotel was pretty convenient to the convention center.
What was great was the shopping mall next to the Courtyard. They had a great Sandwich shop (Gandolfo), tasty Italian restaurant (Vivoli - also delivers to hotel as it's the in house room service) and Starbucks. For the kids, there's a large miniature golf course right behind the hotel where you can play several different courses.
They also had a reasonably priced buffet breakfast at under $6 and a cheaper continental.
Main drawback was that the hotel was having renovations done to the main lobby so it was an absolute mess to walk in and out. I would assume it'll be completed in a couple of weeks, but they should have made allowances like giving free breakfasts or some other compensation for having to deal with the rolling scaffolding, wet paints and smelly glue. We are Marriott Platinum reward members but nothing was offered which is very strange. Also the rooms are a little noisy if you have someone with heavy feet above you.
All and all, the rooms were clean, the staff friendly and the location is good for the convention center.
