“Nice relaxing casino”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Very nice hotel. front door service. staff are friendly and helpful. Restaurant is delicious and reasonably priced with a beautiful view of the Truckee River. Rooms are cozy, with flat screen TV, Wi-Fi, windows that open for fresh air, coffee maker, real mugs, hair dryer, room service, and noon time check out. Some rooms have beautiful river view, some rooms have sprawling living rooms with big screen TVs. Suites are amazing. With in walking distance to other attractions. Will be back again!

Room Tip: River view, high floor

My wife and I, was invited to come and play at the Siena Casino. When we arrived slot personnel welcomed us and informed us that we should get a slot card for our play, and see if we had any free play? I thought nice greetings made you feel welcome, Wrong! after getting our players club card my wife and I walked around the Casino to see what new games were at hand. We both sat down at a row of machines and started playing, after 20min of playing time my wife said did you see a cocktail server, I said no, so I flagged down a slot person and asked of cocktail service, she went to contact a supervisor for drink service. After 10min, a server came by and asked if we wanted cocktail or drink, I said yes and that my wife would like a wine and I would like a black coffee and a bottle water, she stated one cocktail per person! I stated I am having coffee and a bottle of water, non-alcohol, she said one cocktail per person, and walked away. When she came back with our order my wife got her wine and I got cream coffee, I stated black coffee was my order since I am lactose intolerant. She did not even come back with the right order but went over to another customer, and started chit chatting with him, I notice that I am playing max coin in my machine and he is playing one penny at a time but he got two beers!! What gives?? No to my coffee and water but yes for two beers for the other guy.
After we ordered again, I finally ask for the Manager, who then bought us our cocktails. The rest of the time we were there, the cocktail waitress deliberately ignored us and gave us the Evil Eye! I have been in Reno for over 30 years, and never had the two cocktail rule applied to water, soda, tea, or any non-alcoholic drink! It has always been a given that you could have a bottle of water and an alcoholic beverage at the same time. This cocktail waitress obviously had not had the proper training or experience to be serving guests!
Service is very important, but attitude is not excusable! We haven't been back, and have no plans to return! We might die of thirst!
Sincerely-
K. Yamaguchi

Siena Hotel/ Casino is a smaller property situated on the south bank of theTruckee River in downtown Reno. My 7th floor room facing the river was small but nicely appointed. Furnishing were tasteful but the bed was way too soft for my liking. The remainer of the furniture was nice and the wall art colorful. The window provided for no opening, a shame on a balmy fall evening with the river wandering by outside. The rooms and common areas were clean and well maintained. All the staff I encountered were helpful amd friendly. Rooms below the 4th floor offer frosted window to mask air condition equipment, so ask for the fourth floor or higher. The flat screen TV was adequate for the room and the hutch holding it conceled a small fridge. Coffee service was provided by Mr. Coffee (where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?) and the bathroom compact but featured nice appointments and a shower/tub combo but would provide a challenge for a couple. The free wi-fi provide a strong signal and good speed and checkout time was a reasonable 12:00 noon. I did not visit the pool/spa.

The casino was small and featured a minimal selection of table games with somewhat conservate blackjack rules (no doubling down after splitting; doubling only allowed on 10 or 11) but minimum bets were pretty reasonable ($5 for a two deck deal on Friday night). There was a fair assortment of slots in multiple denominatios and titles. Video poker players will be disappointed with the 7/5 payouts but unfortunately this has become almost standard in casinos. The ventilation in the casino leaves much to be desired but I have found in general Reno casinos have a poorer air quality than I find at Washington state properties. The casino also lacks a smoke-free area and a card room. It does have a mini-sportsbook. A plus: A Blackjack pays 3:2 where many downtown casinos have unashamedly moved to an unjustifyable 6:5! Be sure to check the rules before you sit down as rules can and do vary even within a given property.

A great find was the Whitewater Restaurant located just off the hotel lobby. I had dinner and the breakfast buffet and was very pleased with the quality and the value of the food. I also sampled the clam chowder and am willing to fully pronounce it simply "the best I have ever eaten"! It was truely that good. So, even if you're not staying at the hotel, the restauant is worthwhile if you need a meal while downtown.

An annoying feature of all hotels in Reno is the high amount of taxation added to room costs. My experience was a $89 room rate that saw $12 Room Tax, $2 Reno Capital Projects Surcharge, $7.50 Resort Fee and $1 Resort Fee Tax that brought the cost of the room to $111.50. Again, this is not unique to the Siena but something to budget for when travelling to Reno.

BOTTOM LINE: I give The Siena Hotel/Casino 3 stars with a special shout-out for the Whitewater Resturant.

Room Tip: Get above the third floor otherwise view the a/c equipment

Pluses: 1) Nice location by the river; easy to walk there and to over casinos 2) Good value buffet breakfast ($11) in a nice riverview restaurant, 3) Samsung Flat Screen TV in rooms, 4) Rooms are attractive and have a fridge (no freezer).
Deal-breakers: 1) Could not get WiFi or 3G reception on our Androids in our 3rd-floor rooms or even, often, in the lobby. WiFi on our Dell laptop was OK, however. 2) Despite my advance request via Booking.com and despite that they were not at all crowded, they refused to put our two rooms on the same floor, even when I explained my mother-in-law was 87; they only offered two rooms on the same floor if we would pay to upgrade both rooms. Finally, very reluctantly, they offered us "non-view rooms" on the 3rd floor, which we reluctantly accepted. 3) They charge a non-optional "resort fee," which isn't that high, but provided us with a single copy of USA Today for our two nights and nothing else, 4) No towels in my mother-in-law's room and when she told that to the maid in the hallway that afternoon, she still received no towels until I went down to the lobby that night and got them for her.

I travel to Reno for work about once a year. A co-worker suggested this hotel last year. I had a positive experience, and decided to stay again this year. The beds are very comfortable, upper 10% for hotels in general, with high quality mattress, sheets and comforter. The location is right on the river, easy walking distance to anything downtown. The staff was helpful and friendly. The gym is resonably nice, as is the rooftop pool. I used the spa for a massage while I was there. They did a wonderful job. I would definitely recommend it. There is a significant discount on spa services for hotel guests, which is not listed on the standard pricing lists that the hotel passes out. Unfortunately, the spa is closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. It also fills up fast. When I made my appointment Sunday afternoon, they were almost booked up for Thursday.

Reno's newest spa and hotel did not disappoint on our recent visit. From free valet parking, to the 24hr snack shop and roof top pool, to clean and spacious rooms and easy walking distance to all the action, this boutique location is the best choice in town.

This is the second trip that my husband and I have stayed at Siena both times during "Street Vibrations". Last year we stayed here for our wedding weekend. Ms. Carol at the front desk was very helpful with every question we had getting things taken care of for our wedding. Wonderful stay.

This year returning again for Street Vibrations and our 1 year anniversary started off a little shaky. The first night an air-conditioning unit was making a loud noise outside our window even with the window closed could hear all night long did not get much sleep. The next morning already tired and looking over our billing for our stay we had questions. We where being charged for and extra night that we had not booked and my husbands card was showing 2 charges for the deposit. When we went to the front desk to question the charges we spoke with Ms. Kimberly the General Manager. Long story short Siena had only charged one time deposit not two and for the sleepless night and the frustration over the extra booked night Ms. Kimberly did take off the extra night, discounted our stay and put us up in one of their WONDERFUL suites. Having a blended family of four kids now this is something that my hubby and I would not be able to do.

Thank you Ms. Kimberly for making our first anniversary very memorable. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. I also want to thank our wonderful bartender in the lounge I feel so bad that I cannot remember his name, want to say it is Mark. He looks like the actor Christian Bale which also makes for a more pleasant Happy Hour. He is so awesome he even remembered us from the year before!

Thanks again Ms. Kimberly for your patience explaining that we where not charged and extra deposit and giving us a wonderful anniversary gift by putting us in one of your BEAUTIFUL SUITES!!!

Hoping to see you all again next year!

Tamara
