Stayed with friends at North Tahoe but wound up with an extra day to spend in Reno. Went to this hotel without a reservation, but after checking on rates at other local hotels and because of a bonus mileage offer from my Hyatt Visa card. Had no problem getting a very nice room at a good rate. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The room (which I presume is standard) was quite spacious with a king size bed and a small partition separating the bed from the rest of the room, which has a large sectional couch, desk, flat screen TV, small refrigerator etc. The room was clean and the furnishings up to date. The bathroom only had a shower but it was large. Even though the hotel is located just outside of the Reno Airport, it is remarkably quiet. I recall only noticing the sound of one airplane and, on a few occasions, doors closing for some of the nearby rooms. The exercise room is small with only four aerobic machines (2 treadmills, 1 stationary bike and 1 elipitcal), two racks of free weights and a bench. However, there is a great, heated indoor swimming pool (not large, but big enough for doing laps - if you don't have a big off the wall kick). There is also a Jacuzzi, but it's located out of doors. The room rate included a free breakfast buffet (fruit, cereal, waffles, English muffin with ham and cheese, toast, etc.). There is room service, but I don't recall a hotel restaurant/coffee shop. There was free Wifi. Plenty of outdoor parking surrounding the hotel.
The only drawback to the hotel is that is there is nothing within walking distance (except perhaps the airport). However, with a car, there is a 16 screen multiplex movie theater nearby, plus shopping malls, casinos, the Truckee River, and local museums within a 12 minute drive.
Finally, the top two rated Reno hotels on the TripAdvisor site at this time were casinos which I did explore. They are large, noisy, smoky, and (for me at least) have a weird vibe that casinos have. Hyatt Place Reno is relatively small, but I did thoroughly enjoyed my brief stay there.
