“El Dorado Reno”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Stayed at the Eldorado Motel in Reno over a weekend for a friends wedding. Airport shuttle from motel runs to and from every hour, Reno airport is small but pretty nice. Receptionist at desk was very friendly and did her best to check us in as quickly as she could with the outdated computer and cc processing. The "Eldo" was pretty clean for an older facilty, kind of felt like Fremont St. in Vegas. Room looked like it was remodeled in the last year or 2 and was clean. Shower/tub could use some updating but bathroom was clean and functional. We ate the first night at the Asian restaurant (Vietnamese maybe) it was good but not exceptional, pad thai was good but not excellent. The Eldorado is connected directly to two other casinos as well, (silver legacy and circus circus) both also fairly large. First morning we ate at the Buffet in the Eldo which had a large selection and was good. I enjoyed the buffet Flavors in the Silver Legacy Casino better though, and Sunday they have Champagne brunch. Brew Brothers in the Eldo had a good selection of on site crafted micros and good food, the chef was a contestant on Master Chef I think. The pool here is small and a little shaded in the morning, but by afternoon most of it is in the warm sun. They also have a little bar for beer and cocktails. Enjoyed my stay here overal, I would probably return.

We arrived in Reno via Amtrack 8:30 am and after research on Tripadvisor decided on The Eldorado for a one night stay before our flight home the next day. The front desk associate who registered us had exceptional customer service skills. She was warm, friendly, very competent, and had a great sense of humor. She went above and beyond in finding us a room that might be ready before the usual check-in time and gave us complimentary breakfast buffet tickets. We got a text within an hour of registration that our room was ready. Keep in mind that it was a Monday, so early check-In was probably more easily available. Our room was very clean, comfy bed and linens, view of the city and everything in excellent working order. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely choose The Eldorado next time we're in Reno.

Room Tip: We did ask for an updated room so it had been remodeled at some point. Ours was king bed and had sma...

Just an average room. My parents stayed in an updated room, which was nice, making our's look even more outdated. They are supposed to be updated all rooms this Fall 2013. Beds were comfortable. Pool was very nice. Could hear the neighbors running water and flushing their toilet which was annoying. Free internet means putting in a new code everyday. They gave us a code that should have worked every day, but did not work. Had to call down and get a new code every day. Nuisance.

Room Tip: Ask for an updated room.

Made a "reservation" on line for a king non smoking room. At checkin was informed that my room request was not available. They informed me, that I should pay attention to the details of my reservation confirmation that was emailed to me. They will try and give you the room type you want. Desk manager informed me it is a "request". So if you want non smoking - they may or may not have it. They gave me a $15 credit on my room charge. Room was clean, bathroom as well. As others have mentioned, it is dated. The room was on a non smoking floor. The hall way on two occasions was full of smoke. My pillow smelled of smoke.
Food at the steak restaurant next door at the Silver Legacy is excellent. Service was excellent.
The coffee shop near this restaurant was perfect for breakfast, again, food and service were
excellent.
Keep in mind they charge a $8 resort fee.
Not sure I would stay here again.

DON'T take the elevators in the parking garage! We visit Reno annually, but this was our first time staying in the Eldorado. We spent 4 nights and were very pleased with our room, the staff we encountered, food etc. In fact, we had decided the Eldorado would become our first choice regardless of other promotional offers. However, the day we left, we spent nearly half an hour stuck in an elevator in the parking garage. Our only apology came from the security officer on scene when the elevator technician finally got us out. Both he and security dispatch (via the intercom) wanted our names and address, and what room we had been in, but 7 weeks after our return home we still hadn't heard anything.
I found out the General Manager's name and sent a letter in June but received NO response. Incidentally, the security officer told us that that specific elevator often had issues, but no one was interested in rectifying them. It had a major impact on our enjoyment of our travel that day, and on our trip to Reno as a whole.

Thank you for taking the time to comment regarding your recent visit.

On behalf of the Eldorado, please accept our apologies for the troubles you experienced with the parking garage elevator while you were our guests. We are truly sorry to hear you felt the issue was not handled in a timely fashion and that our representatives were less than sympathetic toward this very frustrating situation. Rest assured, these matters have been duly noted and we thank you for bringing them to our attention.

Upon further investigation, we have found that our daily log records show you declined to file a formal security report at the time of the incident, which would have prompted immediate follow-up contact from members of our management team. It is our ongoing goal for every guest who stays/plays at the Eldorado to have a memorable experience and we are unhappy to hear you felt the mishap with the elevator left a less than favorable impression on those memories.

We do want you to know that we appreciate that you put your trust in the Eldorado and we sincerely hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back in the near future.

Sincerely,

Eldorado Hotel Casino

This was a unique experience for me since I had never stayed in a hotel that was also a casino. There were several options for food (and shopping) right within the hotel, and this hotel was directly connected to the Silver Legacy which was then connected to Circus Circus, which multiplied the food and shopping options by three. By connected, I mean that as you walked along on the connecting level, it was almost imperceptible when you moved from one hotel into the next. We particularly liked the Eldorado's Buffet restaurant, since the price was reasonable and there was a large selection of excellent food.

Anyway, our room - which was in the less expensive tower - was quite spacious, there were plenty of towels, pillows, etc and the bed was very comfortable. Everything was very clean and well maintained, and we were not disturbed by any unwanted noise. The a/c worked well. The room rate was VERY reasonable, but that may have been because my aunt had comps from a prior visit and she reserved the rooms. There was at least one security guard at each of the elevators that went to the guest rooms and they were vigilant about checking for room keys.

We were only two blocks away from the National Bowling Stadium, where the men in our group were bowling, so it was an easy walk to get there. We were also only a couple of blocks from the minor league baseball stadium and a surprisingly wonderful auto museum which features many cars from the Harrah collection.

Unfortunately, on our last night there, my boyfriend's wallet was apparently lifted while he was in the casino. (Never keep your wallet in your back pocket when in casinos.) The hotel staff and security were very helpful, checking anywhere we could think of where it might have been left accidentally and then helping us fill out paperwork.

The USBC tournament is back in Reno in 2014 and we are planning to stay at the Eldorado again.
