“Mt Charleston Lodge for your wedding night? I'd say no.”

My wife and I stayed at the lodge on our wedding night. I will agree with other reviewers and say that the bed may have been the most comfortable that I've ever stayed in. Beyond that I don't have many good things to say. From the moment you check in they prepare you to be disappointed. They say the satellites, TV's, VCR's and fireplaces are not guaranteed to work and no refunds or discounts are available if they don't. Lo and behold our TV was completely non-functional. I didn't bother to try the DVD player. The hot tub was just as advertised. My wife filled it too fast and it was cold. The fireplace worked for 1 cycle and then I was unable to get it going again. I'm sorry but when I'm paying $200 for 1 night I expect the establishment to have enough hot water to fill the tub. I expect the equipment to be well maintained. I told the staff well in advance that it would be our wedding night but they didn't go out of the way in any fashion that I could see to make our cabin special. Also it was 3 days after a snow storm and the steps to and from the cabin were slippery and not completely cleared. As far as rustic luxury is concerned I would recommend other places well before the Mt. Charleston lodge.

“Mt. Charleston Lodge CABINS, not hotel”

Maybe I'm just a country bumpkin from Texas, but I thought the lodge was a perfect place to be. We went up for a week in Vegas and a wedding at the lodge over the weekend. It was breathtaking, peaceful, calm, serene and the staff was as gracious and pleasant as could be. We even got one of the waiter's e-mail to keep in touch. We bought a $7 sheet of plastic that posed as a sled from the gift shop and walked *right across the street* and played in the snow for about an hour. I can't remember ever having so much fun in my almost 30 years. It was gorgeous weather during the day enough that we played in the snow in shorts and short sleeves and cold, cold, cold at night. We stayed in the actual lodge part of the lodge by the fireplace and chatted and visited with the staff well after everyone else had left and they made no effort to hurry and rush us off. When we went to the cabin- which was gorgeous, huge and comfortable- we turned the fireplace off; but the fluffy, soft comforters kept us so warm that we actually stripped down to t-shirts and threw the covers off, even though it was snowing outside! We didn't try to fill the hottub, but it did say it would take 45 minutes. We had friends sleep on the fold-out couch and they said it was lumpy and not too terribly comfortable, but I've never heard otherwise about a fold-out and didn't expect this one would be any different. The bed, the pillows and the comforter were all the softest, most comfortable pieces of bedding I have ever encountered. The back deck had some chairs and a couch to sit on and you could take in the view perfectly. The rates were very reasonable, as we had stayed at a seedy little joint called the Fiesta Hotel and Casino off the strip the night before and paid ***far*** more for a crummy room there!

All in all, I'd say that this place is Heaven and it is definitely the first place my vacation-o-meter will point next time we look to start planning!

I read three bad reviews of this place and just can't imagine that we are all talking about the same location. There's NO WAY that anyone could not have a stellar vacation at this lodge that I went to. I have already recommended it to everyone I know and a few people I don't!

Please e-mail me of you have any quetions or concerns or would like to see any more pictures. I even have photos of the way the wedding and reception were set up if you're planning one yourself.

“The Lodge Not the Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2005

I stayed in the cabins at the Mt Charleston Lodge many many times (including my wedding night and each anniversary after!) and I thought they were beautiful. After reading the reviews posted here, I decided that I need to give some people an FYI, there are 2 different places to stay on Mt Charleston. There is the Mt Charleston Hotel (3 floor hotel with lobby)- Think the review that discusses the weddings and the lobby etc must be talking about the Mt Charleston Hotel- and there is the Mt Charleston Lodge (personal rustic log cabins). I have never had anything but positive experiences at the cabins. The ambiance really leads to romance! Some people are upset that their TV didn't work, but I never found a need for a TV. All we needed was each other and the just gorgeous surroundings off our deck to occupy the time! Underpriced if you ask us! If you are looking for solitude and romance, this is definately the place for you! Enjoy!

“Loved The Lodge!”

My family booked a night at the cabin for the whole family which consisted of 6 of us. It was great! Although there were four adults and two children, we were never crowded. The cabin was huge with two HUGE king size beds which, if you are short, you will need a step ladder just to get up on them! They were super comfortable and covered in big comfy comforters. The cabin also had a living room with a sofa bed which was also very comfortable. The cabin was also equipped with a very large jacuzzi tub (only drawback being that it is right in the room so you better be comfortable with your party if you plan on using it) and a restroom. The back balcony was very large with a table that seated 6 people, a rocking chair, and a sofa and an incredible view of the hillsides and surrounding mountains. The only real drawback to the cabin was that the television did not work due to an outage related to the satellite company but otherwise the cabin was cozy and and warm (even when we turned off the fireplace and heater, the cabin stayed warm the entire night and into the next morning.) It was a wonderful stay and we would gladly stay there again.

“Not what we expected,Never again!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2004

The Mountain was great. Lots of scenery, but an easy drive to Las Vegas.
We planned to stay two nights but the cabin (#23) was cold and well worn. Hot tub would have been nice if you care to wait 45 minutes and then it wouldn't be hot? Television, not, it did not work nor did the remotes that were supplied. The bed was comfortable if you did not mind the car alarms at one and three in the morning. (This is the local watering hole) The glass doors on the gas fireplace were ripped off and laying on the floor (there was instructions on the fireplace to not operate unless you close the doors for venting purposes) No hair dryer in the bathroom. The website shows a great view of the mountains but all we viewed was the backside of another cabin. All in all it was over priced and not what we expected.I brought this up to the pesron in charge but I was reminded of the 48 hour cancellation policy?? We left and stayed in the Paris that night for less than it cost the stay in that noisy cold cabin. Never again!!
