“Cold, Dark, and Awkward”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago NEW

We had visited a week earlier to see a cabin before booking. The one we received was different. The Love Birds cabin is set away from the others and previous guests have carved their initials on every available surface of the balcony. Some may find that romantic. I saw it as graffiti. The furniture and maintenance of this cabin was also below the model we had seen. By 4 pm in April it was too cold to sit outside, so we moved inside.

The cabin was freezing. We lit the gas fireplace, but it seems mostly for decoration. We started the wall heater, but it took a couple of hours to heat the space with large ceilings.

Upon check in we learned that there was no TV service, or WiFi, or reading lights. We didn't opt to rent old movies on dvd.

The shower head is located in the hot tub, so to take a shower you have to step up two feet onto the hot tub deck, walk to the back of the tub and step down without any grab bars available. We're retirees and didn't find the charm of this arrangement.

The awkwardness also included the ridiculously high bed. A small step stool was required to get into the bed, but we opted to use the ottoman. It was higher, but also slipped on the hard surface floor. I have to wonder how many accidents this place sees.

I did bring home a souvenir. I grabbed the hand rail while carrying my bag back up to the parking lot and got a good sized sliver from the weathered wood.

Overall I was not impressed. The one night stay was a gift from a relative and I was sorry to give them our report when asked. We've stayed at the Resort on Mount Charleston in the past and prefer it by far.

You can check in around 2. We stayed in cabin 10. There was a propane leak when we got there (or so they thought) we had to wait about 2 hours to check in. Then we were able to check in but they had to wait for the gas company to light the pilot lights. The smell was overwhelming so we were on the balcony for another two hours. In fairness the manager offered to refund our money if we wanted to leave. I had a gift certificate and had taken the day off so we stayed. However at 200 plus a night it just doesn't live up. The staff was nice. The cabin was pretty and fairly clean. Good hiking but for the money we will continue to drive to zion and stay in the cabins there.

This was an erotic day time get away. I had spoken with Rhonda several times in getting the reservation set up. I was disappointed we did not get the suite we had discussed. She had not had one cleaned for us. We ended up on the third floor in a tiny boxlike but clean room. There was a door which opened onto a tiny balcony overlooking the canyon. It provided the only ventilation. No fireplace, no space really disappointing.

In fairness Rhonda offered to move us to a suite after lunch. Unfortunately we had to leave by then.

Of course we love the mount Charleston lodge and the escape from the desert this was just an disappointing experience.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the tiny rooms on 3.

Stayed at cabin 12 for an early bday getaway!! Came with hubby, our son, and 120lb german shepard. We all loved it. Had a huge balcony to sit outside and enjoy cocktails, peacefulness, and the scenery. The room was very spacious-loved the fireplace and jacuzzi. Also loved no tv with the guys-that's all they do on weekends!! There is a dvd player and we brought a few for late at night. They had a big selection in the office you can rent for $1. Restaurant and bar just a couple min walk from cabin, and the restaurant allows you to eat on balcony with your dog. There is a pet fee, $27 per day but if you stay more then 2 days there is no extra charge. You have to request maid service if you want it at check in-we did not as wasn't sure if the dog would be there alone when she came. Can't wait to come back!!!

Thank you so so very much for a wonderful time at a wonderful place. I would recommend anyone who has an extra day in vegas, to take a day trip to Mount Charleston lodge. It's like entering the twilight zone. one second you are in the middle of the desert and the next one... in the mountain. Pine trees appear as if by magic, and you enter an alpine environment. The Lodge sits at the end of the road, facing Mount Charleston. The restaurant is very nice, food great, but the best of all are their wooden cabins/chalets. I stayed at one of the ones facing straight into the mountain. They are the most beautiful, romantic and charming place you can think of. Clean. Cozy, Warm. Watch the stars at night. Sleep tight hearing crickets and wake up to magnificent views and the singing of the birds. Anxious to return... maybe in winter?

Room was big, we had 2 king sized beds, a Jacuzzi tub and a fire place. Was very expensive for one night. They were also pet friendly, we paid a pet deposit, but when they learned they were service animals, they returned our fee (thank you!). All the staff were really friendly, and one of the staff even moved his car so we could park in front of our cabin. I bought some jewelry from a couple vendors outside the restaurant. Everyone was very nice from the restaurant to the hotel staff. I would love to go back again...maybe just not on a holiday weekend since it was really really crowded.

This review is for the Mt Charleston Lodge Dining Room, not to be confused with the Dining Room at the Mt Charleston Resort, which is a more modern establishment located further down the hill in a less appealing setting. I had breakfast here with an old friend and camping buddy. It is worth eating here simply for the setting. There is a nice large outdoor seating area though we ate inside as there were no shaded tables available there. The food was adequate, except for my biscuit, which was hard as a rock. Service was uneven. Our waitress was not very attentive, however there was another gal that kept my coffee filled and our plates cleared, as well as a friendly young fellow that brought out our food. The only reason I left a decent tip was that I figure that they must share the tips. Our waitress didn't earn her share. All in all, this establishment can only be recommended for the atmosphere.
