Roos N More is located about an hour north of Las Vegas in the small town of Moapa. It's a bit of a drive, but if you want a truly outstanding experience it's worth the drive. The zoo is accredited, but it's not like any zoo you've ever seen. It's more like going to visit a friend who has a bunch of really cool animals. There are so many different kinds of animals, and most of them are where you and the kids can pet or hold them. On my first visit I held an armadillo, a 10 foot boa, a monkey and a baby kangaroo. We got to feed and pet camels, zebras, llamas and donkeys, and got up close and personal with adult roos, giant tortoises and the most awesome sea otters. The star of our first visit was the bear cat, who was out on a leash, but so friendly you could pet him.
The zoo is owned/run by 2 veterinarians and staffed by lots of volunteers. You absolutely must check the website before making the drive, as they are not open every day. Admission is $10 for adults, but our 2 year olds got in for free. There is now an additional charge to go into the section with the kangaroos and otters, but I don't remember now how much that was, but I do know it was enough that it kind of irritated me, which is why they don't get 5 stars. Prices are all listed on their website.
If you are an animal lover, the zoo in Las Vegas will make you cry, but the zoo in Moapa will make you shout hooray! As with anything outside in Las Vegas, time of year is critical. I definitely don't recommend going during the summer, but any other time of year if fine. There is not food or water available for purchase, but they do have a pretty good gift shop with very reasonable prices.
