I have been advised to never read reviews after you have booked, but that's what I did. And I was more than a little concerned with some of the things I read especially the distance from the rest of the strip. However we drove from Vegas to Laughlin on 12th April (stayed in the Plaza the night before and were in the casino when the guy won $1.2 million on the progressive Wheel of Fortune). Got to the hotel early, and was efficiently looked after by Donna, who managed to give me a non-smoking room with a view and a fridge in the north tower. The room was spacious and airy.
The Box Office staff (Cecilia in particular) was very helpful and got me 2 tickets to the Jeff Foxworthy show, which was "sold out". The non-smoking casino is quite small, and I hope that this will change as people become more aware; also pleased to see that casino management kept the Let It Ride tables to $5.00. Lots of room in the casino (machines are not jammed in together) but more variety would be good. Saw many other kinds in other casinos. Cocktail waitresses were plentiful and the drinks were not watered down - that in itself was great! Dealers were friendly and very helpful and patient with beginners. I enjoyed the Hold Em tournament at 9:00 am. Ate at Casa Cabo, Fresh Market Buffet and The Range. Buffet was spectacular, do not miss this. Range is expensive, the service was impeccable. Have a problem with the amount of food on our plate - way too much for us. While it is true the hotel is out of the way, we had a car, also, there is a shuttle, there is a water taxi (gone up to $10 round trip - this is too much) and it is a nice walk when the weather is cooler. It would definitely be good for Harrah's business if they extended the boardwalk, or made a walkway over the hill between them and River Palms. Lots of people get put off by the hill as there is only a goatpath, and it is not lighted at night. Also the shuttle should be advertised so that downtown hotel/casino realize that they can get up to Harrahs and back (more business). All in all, we liked the property a lot and would recommend it to everyone. Harrahs employees are deserving of the title Most Friendly Hotel/Casino! Hats off to them.
