The Avi has nice rooms that are very affordable. I was in the new section -- the beach tower -- and the room was clean and comfortable. But I guess I made the mistake of assuming it was located in Laughlin, along with the other casinos (or at least close-by to the other casinos). Boy, was I wrong. The Avi is about 12 miles away from everything else, on an Indian reservation at the very southern tip of Nevada. To get there, you drive past all the other casinos, then into the vast darkness. Casino Road ends, you take a left, and drive several more miles, before a glaringly bright sign appears at the side of the road. Turn there, and it's 6 more miles of pitch-black darkness (and funny smells in the air) before you finally reach the casino. I don't think their website makes this very clear, and I think they do that on purpose.
(I had to call a friend to help me find the Avi. It took her about 15 minutes of searching online to figure out where I was, where the Avi was, and how I should get there!)
Sure the rooms are cheap, but they're inexpensive on a weekday night on the Laughlin strip, too. So why would anyone drive all that way just to spend the night in the middle of nowhere? Next time I'll stay somewhere else.
