“Great for one night”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 23, 2012

The 50$ room we got was on the top floor. Everyrhing was new abd clean.

We had a night to spend in Vegas, during the weekend and we looked for something cheap.

Just in the beginning of Fremont street.

3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 21, 2012

Just returned Yesterday from a three night stay.

So........ Fremont Street is NOT my first choice in hotels for my Vegas trip. BUT since its my first stay there in almost 20 years I have to not be too judgemental.

Checkin seemed to take us forever and others in line after us were done before we were. Whatever its fine. Our rooms were not together as requested and we spent extra for a froom with a view but we got a view of a rooftop... Okay. This room was booked at $60 a night.

Walking through the casio there is a REALLY weird, over powering smell that didnt go away. I think its supposed to be air freshner.

The room was fine. Air conditioner a bit loud. Didnt hear neighbors. Bathroom was a bit small. Beds were comfy.

Getting a cab to the outlet mall was like pulling teeth... when the cabbie heard where we were going they left. Not just one but THREE of them. Yes the outlet mall is closer than the airport. Also, we were charged different amount for the airport......... I'll tell you from the Plaza to the airoport your fare should be around $25 and NOT $45... jerks.

Oscar's Booze and Broads (supposed to be a super fun place) = very expensive. Our waiter was rude but our bus/type lady was AWESOME. The dirty martini's are not dirty at ALL. Food was served quickly. Not one Broad came to our table to talk to us and not quite sure why its supposed to be a "happy" place? But we did enjoy our meal and were seated right on Fremont St so that was nice.

Playing the machines and ordering drinks: Our waitress was busy because the drinks are small (about 4-6 oz) and full of ice so i sucked them down. (order beer) Finally she asked if she was going to get more than $1 tip for me and my friend everytime..... Um no your not. At least I tip.

Check out was fine. Its a hotel casino. Nothing special but we didnt pay $150 a night either. Fremont street is fun. I just prefer the strip.

PS: There is a mcDonald's, Pizza place and a subway in the hotel and thats AWESOME!! :) (dont look for a $5 footlong though, they dont sell those LOL)

Room Tip: Make sure when you ask for a room with a view, and pay extra for it..... you get it.

We only stayed here one night over Memorial Day weekend. The line was long at check in but it moved fairly quickly. The first room we were assigned to was on the back side of the hotel overlooking air conditioners. However when we got to the room there was garbage on the tables and the bed had been made but with the same dirty sheets. We called down to the desk and they quickly reassigned us to a room on the other side overlooking the Fremont Street Experience. Great view but the band played until at least 1 and it was loud! This room also had some housekeeping issues but wasn't as bad as the first. Room was decorated nicely and comfy for the most part. For the price we paid it was fine for one night. We also tried Hash House A Go Go and the food and service were great.

The staff was excellent, rooms were large, beds were comfy. No fridge, microwave, or coffee service in hotel. Bathroom was waaaay small. Had to back into it to use it. Coupon book for free this n that given at check in, helped pay for our breakfast at McDonalds. Edge of the Freemont Street experience.

Room Tip: Pool was closed to guests for a private party...bummed out...could have used it to cool off.

My friends and I visit Las Vegas every year, typically spending a couple of nights downtown and a couple on the Strip. We were very pleasantly surprised with the Plaza; this is the first time we've been there. If you are looking for the best Strip-type resort on Fremont, the Golden Nugget is the place to be. Otherwise, for better value, the Plaza outranks all of the others by far. The room renovations and new furnishings were great. Our rooms had views looking south on Main Street toward the Strip, which was very cool. The staff was very accommodating and friendly. The bathrooms were quite small, and the towels were thin, but otherwise the stay was great.

We also ate at both Hash House A Go Go for breakfast and Oscars for dinner. Fantastic places; the Hash House monster servings were memorable, and the view at Oscars was memorable as well.

I recommend the Plaza. If you're not staying there but want lunch or dinner, check out Hash House or Oscar's.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing south

Glad you were very pleasantly surprised with the Plaza! Hopefully the next time you visit we will out rank the Nugget.
Hash House and Oscars are great; you definitely need to bring your appetite when going to Hash House. The next time you come you should try Island Sushi or Zaba’s.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2012

Just came back from a free 2 night stay at the renovated Plaza Hotel and Casino in downtown Las Vegas. The rooms are nicely decorated with furnishings from the bankrupted Fountainebleau Hotel project. The check-in process was not as easy as it should have been. There were only 2 people on duty to check you in and 1 of them went on her break as we got into line. Customer service is what it's all about and who ever scheduled the staff needs to rethink what they are doing. The guy who handled the check in was friendly but not apologetic about the wait.
The room itself was nicely decorated (about 350 sq feet) and included a king size bed with a really firm mattress (too hard for my wife's comfort), a love seat, dresser with a wall mounted 32" flat-screen HD TV, 2 nightstands and a desk and chair. The bath area had a vessel sink on a marble countertop with not very much counter space. The lighting must have been energy saver because it was not easy to see yourself in the mirror. The toilet and tub/shower were nicely tiled in a separate "closet" (really small). The water pressure and temperature were sufficient but nothing special. The furnishings are almost brand new but there is already paint damage to the doors and some damage to wall paper and furniture. While the room was clean, there was some mildew on the inside of the shower curtain.
We stayed on the 5th floor of the South Tower facing the pool area. I would stay there again except for the fact that my wife did not get a comfortable night's sleep due to the extra firm mattress.
The casino has been redone as well and the place has much better amenities than it used to have. More and better restaurants, new decor, and very much cleaner than it used to be. They also had an email special that gave use $50 in free play which gave us a $25 net gain. We live in Las Vegas and I feel that it should be said that the quality of the gambling in the downtown area leaves much to be desired. Most of the casinos pay 6:5 rather than 3:2 on black and deal cards from either a 6 or 8 deck shoe and many of the casinos, including the Plaza, are using continuous shuffling machines. Table limits are higher than at the locals casinos as well.
