“Second Best Downtown Vegas Hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 10, 2012

LOCATION:
Right at the beginning of Downtown Las Vegas. The Fremont Street Experience is literally right outside.

VALET:
Attendant quick to assist you as you drive up. Unfortunately, extremely long wait when it's time to get your car from the valet. Also, the valet guy actually gave us the wrong car... After that, we decided to park the car ourselves in the free self parking garage.

CHECK-IN/CHECK-OUT:
Average wait time. Sadly, the hotel did not have the in-room TV check out option, so you either have to a) wait in line or b) fill out one of those express cards and drop it in the box downstairs.

ROOM IN NORTH TOWER:
Very spacious room. Flat screen television w/Direct TV. The bathroom is rather small in comparison to the rest of the room. There's a wall mounted hair dryer for use. The hotel provides those conditioning shampoo combos, along with lotion and a small bar of soap. The bathroom area is also where the wall safe and iron/ironing board are located.

However, the room lacked:
-coffee machine/tea
-closet
-desk
-comforter for the beds
-thermostat

HOUSEKEEPING:
Towels were delivered in under 5 minutes of request.

OVERALL:
The Plaza looks great now that it has been renovated. The lobby area, casino floor, and the rooms finally received the long overdue facelift. However, upon a closer look, you can still see some of its imperfections. Nevertheless, it's still a great rate you're getting for a clean and newly renovated room in comparison to some of the other older casino rooms in downtown Vegas.

Just returned from our Superbowl Weekend stay at the Plaza and could not have been happier. It was our first time staying on Fremont St., compared to the Strip and would do it again in a second!!!! Our service was great from start to finish. Efficient check in, nice clean room, good house keeping service, polite and fun dealers, pit bosses, cocktail waitresses, and players club attendants. Breakfast at Hash House was simply amazing and our waitress there too was great. Oscar's was great for the birthday dinner we went to and has an amazing view of Fremont St. while enjoying dinner. Island Sushi was soso. They are pretty liberal with their comps and we took advantage of their new member perks. Already talked about staying there again on our next visit.

Room Tip: Ask for a room over looking Fremont St in the North Tower.

This is one of many visits to this downtown favorite. They have most of the "t"s crossed by now.

Excellent low rates and perfect location with free parking make this a must visit. This trip I was in a North Tower mini suite. It featured a wet bar, fridge, and larger bathroom plus balcony that faced the Freemont experience- this can be good or bad as they band on Freemont plays until 130 am on weekends and midnight or so during the week.

The McDonalds is now open adding to the Subway, bistro, Hash House, Oscars steak house ( pretty good but needs time to work out their problem) hawaiin cafe and more

while its an older building most items have been replaced or updated. The furniture, rugs, beds, are new courtesy of the defunkt Fountainblue hotel. Flatscreen TVs with decent channel selection- rare in some Vegas hotels (I mean you LVH) Bathrooms are generally small but new. For the price this is a BARGAIN

Ive read some reviews and I have always found employees to be nice and professional. In fact I am writing this from the RIO and am heading back to the Plaza this weekend. Give it a try!

I stayed here for two nights during the Superbowl weekend and it was one of very few hotels that offered a package of less than $100. Honestly, I was not expecting much. BUT honestly, I was impressed by this hotel and I highly recommend it to you. The hotel is in the heart of downtown Vegas and right next to the Fremont experience. All popular downtown hotels are in walking distance. It can easily accessed from I-15 and it offers a parking garage (no extra charge) but make sure you ask for a parking permit at the front desk. The hotel staff was professional and polite. I was impressed by the fact that they had read my special requests which I made when booking online. They let me check-in early. The room was heaven. It was huge, with new and modern furniture which where delivering a fresh and clean feeling. Interestingly, they bought all this furniture from the ghost Fountainbleau resort. The room had flat TV, couch, table, chair - all brand new. No coffee maker, no fridge, and there was an extra charge ($11) for internet. My room was facing away from Fremont street. Noise was not a problem beside some minor noise from a train since my room was facing railway tracks. Not a big issue for me. If you stay in this hotel don't miss the brewery at the main station casino. Not only you will drink fresh beer but also you will have to see parts of the Berlin wall at the mens bathroom in the casino floor. As for gambling, if you like low minimums don't miss the El Cortez casino in Fremont. Funny place.
In summary, I think this hotel delivers a luxury feeling. It was modern, safe and clean. What else do you need? For the money I paid ($46 with tax per night) I think I hit jackpot.

The Plaza has been renovated and the rooms look great with brand new modern furniture. Bathrooms have been updated too although for some reason, they didn’t bother to replace or refinish the doors. Nice flat screen TV. The rooms are huge so theres plenty of space to spread out. Even with all the updates to the rooms and the casino floor, the Plaza continues to provide a very good value. Even though they have done a fantastic job, there are a few minor grips. My room lacked a coffee maker. There are no glasses in the room to drink from, just plastic dixie cups. There was no ice machine available and a sign was put up directing you to the casino floor to get your ice from the bar. Thats a hassle. Water pressure on the 20th floor was very weak... I’m not sure if thats limited to my floor or if its a problem for the entire hotel. Also, my room on the 20th floor was near the elevators and you could hear the electric motors groaning and humming all night. You could also hear what sounded like the elevator cable clanking against something. If noises like that bother you, make sure to request a room away from the elevators. The gym is very nice with new equipment but its located far from the North Tower. The Plaza has a very cool rooftop area between the towers that contains a pool, hot tubs, tennis and basketball courts, and lots of space to hang out but it needs to be cleaned up and renovated to give it a sense of style. Overall, the Plaza is a great choice for those staying downtown and theres still room to make it even better if visitors rediscover it.

Room Tip: Request a room away from the old noisy Elevators. Lower floors might have better water pressure...

Because the place had just undergone a year long renovation I gave the Plaza a shot.

The Good: Thanks to the Fontainebleau going under the rooms have some very nice furniture and you can get some great room rates at the moment. especially mid week. The Plaza is right near stops for the Deuce and SDX so there is no problem getting to the strip.

The Bad:The walls are very thin and you can here the other rooms and all the doors slamming shut. Also you have to pay for the internet. Went to the concierge twice. The first time the lady behind the desk was very unhelpful and did not seem to be interested in dealing with me. The second time the man behind the desk tried but was not too much help either.

If you are going to stay there just know if you have a room in the south tower you are going to have to walk all the way through the casino to get to the elevators.
