“Monte Carol Reveiw”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2007

Our family went to the Monte Carlo for our Dad's 80th birthday. From check in to the day we left, we were well pleased with the service, rooms, Casino, and overall decor of this beautiful Resort Casino. We took lessons from the casino supervisor, Roland, on how to play craps (Free) and had a ball playing and made some money!! The Casino was full all the time with people laughing and having a great time. The pool was beautiful, with plenty of seating. The line to the pool bar was as bit long. We ate breakfast at the buffet, and it was fabulous. We also ate at the Steakhouse, but it was a little pricey, but very good. Rooms were clean and maid service was very quick, with rooms cleaned immediately. We chose this resort based on location, (close to other Casino's), price, and comments from people who had stayed there, through trip advisor. Our stay was enjoyable, and I am happy to recommend this resort.

Just got back from a three day stay at the Monte Carlo and had a great time! We received a discount in exchange for touring a Time Share property. (Don't bother, with these...but that's another story) We wondered around in the lobby a little after the taxi dropped us off, not quite sure where to go to use our discount. A front desk employee at a "closed" window flagged us down and was very helpful. He fixed us right up and pretty much gave us our choice of room to stay in, because it was before the influx of weekend travelers. He was very helpful and friendly.

We chose a high floor with a strip view. Good thing it was on the 27th floor, otherwise the construction noise would have been a problem.

Our stay only got better, as all the staff from housekeepers to bar tenders was very friendly, everywhere we went! My only complaint is the pool closes a little early, but if your going out to dinner anyway, its no big deal.

I have one thing the hotels 3 pools all close at 8:00 pm. THats so early. I hope the hotel reads this and changes their pool closing time before i come back and stay there on April 27th. By the way I stay in your bigest suite every, sometimes 3 times a year for over 15 days for vacation. Please take that in cosideration.

We have stayed at the Monte Carlo five times over the past several years, our first stay was shortly after it opened. We've always been pleased.

Location, location, location! This hotel has a superb location, especially if you don't have a car. You can walk right outside the front door and go across the street to the MGM or Tropicana, or next door to the New York. A short walk brings you to the Excalibur, where you can take a free monorail to the Luxor and Mandalay Bay. There's a CVS and Walgreens right next door, very convenient for snacks to stock up your room, or picking up toiletries that you forgot. Movie theater and food court for quick eats are also very closeby.

The hotel has an elegant atmosphere, hits you from the moment you walk in the door. The scented air is very pleasant. Check-in is usually efficient. On one occasion, we had repeated difficulties with check-in (we were given the key to a room that had not been cleaned, then to a room that was occupied) -- after a long wait and insisting on speaking to a manager, we were upgraded to a jacuzzi suite. It was wonderful, but I'm not sure it's worth the price they charge for it if you are paying full price.

Our last visit was the most disappointing of all the times we've stayed there. The carpets seemed dirty and the furniture was showing some wear. The room was clean aside from the carpet, but we were on the back side of the hotel with a view of the interstate and a large construction zone. We almost asked to move to a new room, but after sleeping in the bed for one night, we stayed put -- the bed was wonderful, more comfortable than our bed at home! Maid service was good, our room was cleaned very nicely each day. Room service trays seemed to remain on the hallway floor for a day or two before being picked up.

The food court adjacent to the casino was also under construction with most of it blocked off and no place to sit. The parking garage is gone (for now at least) as it has been torn down to make room for new construction, so there is no covered parking (and covered parking is a huge plus in summer!).

Ask for a room with a strip view and avoid the construction views/noise. The pool area was nice before; major construction was happening at the pool when we were last there, so hopefully when it re-opens this spring it will be even better. The rooms are very adequate for the price and staff is invariably courteous and helpful. On our last visit, there was a small problem with a large and rowdy group late at night in the next room. We called the front desk, and security appeared instantly and handled the situation with tact. We had a fantastic waitress in the casino, wish I could remember her name, she was a dream. The staff at the sports bar is also very friendly, the bartenders are great if you can get a seat at the bar (it is almost always full).

Blackstone's Steakhouse is excellent, not crowded and has very attentive, experienced staff. I love steak, and every steak I've ever had there has been top-rate. Very nice and you can talk to your companions without having to yell over the din that seems to be the norm at so many restaurants, but you have to exit the restaurant to go to the restroom. The Houdini lounge was too loud to allow for conversation. The Chinese restaurant is very good -- we found it to be an excellent value for lunch, less so for dinner. The buffet is a pass, the food was ordinary and the price is rather high.

A good value, but be sure to ask for a room with a strip view. Nice rooms, comfortable beds, and friendly staff. We like the elegant atmosphere without the hokey themes that some of the hotels put on. For the price and location, it's a great deal.

Stayed at the Monte Carlo in late February and was very satisfied with the room & casino. We got our requested non-smoking room with 2 double beds (and we booked through Travelocity, so that was nice). We requested a room away from the construction and got one that faced New York New York, so there was absolutely NO construction noise whatsoever...but on our way out one night we could understand how that would be a problem if you were facing the construction (facing North)--it's REALLY loud out there until the wee hours.
Casino is nice, nothing special.
Room was very clean as was the bathroom, beds comfortable.
Buffet for breakfast was disappointing but the service was good. The Cafe was great for a late-night snack (open 24 hrs) and the Starbucks in the lobby was FANTASTIC! :-)
Overall, pleasant stay but in the future will likely go back to the casinos located more centrally on the Strip unless the deals at the MC are really good, then I'd definitely stay there again.

Nestled between New York, New York and the Bellagio, the location of this hotel was perfect. The casino was small, but ample, and the staff's level of friendliness was lackluster.

Housekeeping did a poor job of cleaning the room when we were out--resorting to the bare minimum of replacing towels and making the bed. The cleaning staff must've dropped a glass on the floor, as we found broken pieces in the entry way that were large enough to see but had been left.

The iron that we had taken out in the morning was left untouched and the bag in the ice bucket was not replaced--though we left the lid off to make it noticible. The pool was closed and patrons were shuffled to other hotels for the one warm day we had on our trip.

Overall, our Monte Carlo experience was very marginal--we'd try another hotel before returning to this one.

My fiancee and I booked the Monte Carlo for our stay in February as we wanted to hold our wedding reception in Andre's restaurant which is inside the hotel. We also booked four other rooms for our guests. No problem with our room (we booked a mini suite which was very spacious - jacuzzi bath, two bathrooms etc) but when our other guests came to check in there were some real problems. One couple who had requested twin beds could only get a king bed on a smoking floor (not acceptable). After a bit of negotiation with the supervisor at check in (who did not once apologise for the inconvenience) I managed to secure them two free buffet passes and the promise of a new room the next day. Whilst the new room did materialise, when they came to check out they were charged for the buffets and were absolutely adamant that it had to be paid despite our best arguments. That was disgusting in my opinion. When my in-laws checked in they were given a room that was already occupied ! The staff did give them a new room immediately and also the buffet passes ( which they were not charged for, thankfully). Another couple in my party had to change their room THREE times - first one hadn't been cleaned, second was a smoking room, luckily the third was ok - but they were not offered anything for their inconvenience. They were the bad points, which, for my wedding, and the fact we were spending over $10,000 at the hotel during our five day stay, left a bitter tast in my mouth, and on that basis I wouldn't give my money to the Monte Carlo again.
On the good points, Andre's restaurant, as a venue for a small wedding dinner reception is superb. I had liaised in advance with their planner, Renee, who is fantastic. We had a private dining room and use of the salon next to it for the whole night (we arrived at 6pm). The waiting staff were amazing and the food was fantastic. My party (14 of us in total) could not stop talking about how great it was, and some of them have eaten at some of London's finest restaurants. It really couldn't have been better and nothing was too much trouble. They even baked us a special wedding cheesecake instead of the traditional wedding cake. In the salon they have a humidor with some of the finest cigars and many many vintage cognacs and brandies, which were rather enjoyed by all !
We also used the spa at the hotel, which was nice, and I also used the salon to have my wedding hair and make up done and they were very good. I suspect our experience of the Monte Carlo may have been tarnished by the fact it was the busiest weekend in Vegas (NBA All Star convention) ever and the staff did seem to be rather frazzled. Still, it's the fact that they just didn't seem bothered about our complaints that I am finding hard to forget ......
Overall the Monte Carlo is a very mediocre compared to many other hotels on the strip that offer rooms for the same price and have more going on inside.
