Stayed 3 nights at the Venetian (Venezia Tower) over the Memorial Day weekend. I was told all rooms were sold out for that weekend. Here are my observations:
I booked the Bella Suite (2 queen beds) and was put on the 5th floor. The room was very nice and spacious (700 sq ft). Large bathroom, 2 sinks, a toilet with door for privacy, a tub and a separate shower with glass surround. The shower has "massage" nozzles which sprays laterally - very nice. The "sunken" living room has a pull-out sofa and 2 sofa chairs, a desk and a table. There are 2 big screen LCD TVs in the room. The room was clean and well kept. Navigating around the hotel was a chore and rather confusing. Many guests lost their ways around. To get from the lobby to your room in the Venezia Tower, it takes 2 elevators with a good walk in between. The 2 large swimming pools are located far and difficult to get to from the Venezia tower (2 or 3 different elevator rides and long walks, that is if you know your way).
I was very surprised to find that 95% of the guests here are singles in their 20's. They seem to travel in groups of all men or all women. For this reason, I think they are here for one thing and one thing only - party, drink, and party. I did not see too many couples or kids during my stay. On several occasions when walking down the hallway, I heard loud noise of people partying in their rooms. It's frequent to see people holding bottles of beer and hard liquor in the elevators and hallways. There's nothing wrong with having a beer in your hand while walking, but several half-drunk guys drinking out of liquor bottles, coming out of the elevator, freely walking down the hallways, talking loudly and being obnoxious to other people ? Hello Venetian security guards ! I didn't pay big bucks to come to the Venetian to see this crap ! One person in my party actually witnessed a guest being so drunk, that he fell right in front of his room and planted his whole face into the door. We saw blood stains on the door the next morning.
Maybe it only happens on holiday weekends, but it seems somehow the young crowd congregates to the Venetian (perhaps for their nightclub "Tao"). When evening comes, you can see groups of young single women in trendy clothes and groups of dressed-up guys flocking the hallways and lobby heading to the night clubs.
During the days, the 2 large swimming pools are packed with people sunbathing. There are pool-side bars and restaurants right there. The settings is nice but it was impossible to find a place to sit. It felt more like a Spring Break destination here than a high-class 5-star hotel. If you envision having your children wading in the pool while you relax in lounge chair listening to soothing caribbean music, you'll be deeply disappointed. On the other hand, if you wish to be blasted with loud techno sound while showing off your body, then this is definitely THE place. Again, I was there on a sold out holiday weekend. I don't know if the pool area is any different during the normal weekdays. We went to the smaller pool in the Venezia Tower which is a bit less crowded (still it wasn't easy to find a place to chill even in the late afternoon).
Overall, the Venetian is undoubtedly one of the most elegant hotels by any standard. It is well decorated and well staffed. The location is second to none. The rooms are very nice and larger than other hotels'. Due to its appeal to the young crowd (singles and 20's), I don't recommend this hotel for family travel. If you're in your 20's and love to drink and party, you will certainly have fun here.
