“Very nice, spacious rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Being my first time in Vegas, I really didn't know what to expect from the rooms, so I was super surprised for it to be so flash and spacious. I felt like I was in a 5-star hotel (in my books anyway).

We drove from Anaheim and returned the hire car to Avis at MGM. It was a bit difficult locating the parking entrance (at night and raining!) and even more so searching for the return car parking spots. Eventually after finding the return parking spot, the check-in process took super longer than expected. This was because my credit card kept being rejected even though it worked in the previous hotels I stayed in during my 6 week trip to the States. The staff member who assisted me with check-in looked like he was getting fed up and hey, so was I (after driving for 8 hours)! Not my fault it's getting rejected. Other staff members however were a bit more friendlier.

I was shocked too by the resort fee, so it essentially meant I was paying for WI-FI but I think that's with other hotels too? Other than that, our Petite King room was excellent. Our booking actually stated 1 king bed, but we ended up getting 2 queen beds which we didn't mind.
There was also the usual TV, but no coffee maker or tea which was another shock (aren't these standard?).
Bathroom wise it was fantastic as it was spacious with a huge mirror. The shampoo/conditioner, body gel and lotion were beautifully fragrant with green tea and jasmine - the best I've come across from hotels I've stayed in.

I was told there were real lions located at this hotel, but we didn't see any during our stay here. After some research, it appears the construction going on during our stay was for a new sports pub where the lion habitat once was.

MGM is close to McCarran International airport so the taxi ride in the morning for our departure wasn't too expensive (about USD$15) for the two us compared to the shuttle buses at $8/person and the taxi ride is direct service to airport.
We walked everywhere during our stay in Vegas, so location to other attractions was no issue for us. The furthest we walked was Wynn/Encore at one end and the Las Vegas Welcome sign at the other end.

Overall, a great stay and experience and would recommend to friends.

Dear WLH_Oz:

Thank you for staying at MGM Grand and for sharing your experiences on Tripadvisor. It is encouraging to know you had a pleasant visit, despite some initial challenges. Your patience is most appreciated in these matters. We are also grateful for your generous feedback regarding our accommodations and provided in-room amenities. As you have mentioned, we do utilize a resort fee program. This allows us to bundle the most widely requested and used resort amenities and provide them at one convenient low price.

Recently, we have also undergone some impressive upgrades to our property. There really is a lot to see and do when you visit MGM Grand. It has been a pleasure to serve you during your stay. We look forward to seeing you again in the future.

Sincerely,

The Guest Experience Department

I have been doing conventions and meetings in Las Vegas for over 25 years. We have simply migrated to this property for several reasons.

1. Monorail make it easy for 1 person to go to conventions cheaply and quicly.
2. Many eating options so you don't have to go off property and fight for a taxi.
3. Clean
4. Decent bars.
5. The place is kept clean, which is not only keeping the rooms clean but keeping the working girls out of the casino. I really hate getting propositioned 5 times at 5 am when going for a coffee.
6. Multiple Starbuck.

My only gripes. Stop the nickel and dime charges that the resort fee is supposed to cover. It is supposed to pay for the refrigerator in the room (there was none), internet (512k WHAT!!!!, if you want real internet speed it is $10 + per day, big upcharge to use the nice gym in the spa). Just raise the rates already and eliminate the fees like this. This factor alone will sadly cause us to evaluate hotels for next year.

Room Tip: The West wing is nice, smaller rooms but I like the layout

Profile: 2 Adults & 2 Kids stayed in Deluxe King Rooms

Pros: despite being a busy hotel the staff made us feel special, upon checkin the booking had been mixed up and the duty manager without delay gave us free tickets to Ka to compensate for a very minor issue - awesome show. We stayed for a week and found the rooms to be well finished and appointed. The gym was full of new machines and was big enough to manage lots of users. Facilities inside the hotel are very good and will take you a good day or so to explore.

Cons: like most LV hotels it is huge so be prepared to walk a little further than normal to your room.

Good hotel to stay in the middle of the strip. Staff were friendly and helpful. Check in time was very slow but that is understandable as the hotel is huge. Check out was much faster. The casino, restaurants and night club are all good.

This year me, my son and my daughter went to Vegas for Christmas. We stayed at the MGM Grand and it was wonderful!! Our room was great, clean and a great view. My kids are over 18 so when we finished site seeing for the day it was nice to be able to come back to the hotel and find several good restaurants open 24 hours. We are all so tired of fast food. Wolfgang Pucks was the one we picked and the food was excellent! We all play the new My Vegas slot game on mobile and desktop and we used our points for the Champagne Brunch which was wonderful and I would do it again for sure. We have stayed at MGM several times in the past and it is our hotel of choice, they are always updating and adding new services and there is so much to do and see right in the hotel. They even called to see if everything was as we wanted and there was a security guard going down the halls at night. Check in and out was fast and easy and the agents were pleasant and helpful!

Room Tip: I would suggest asking for a room closer to the elevators the halls are verrrry long!!!

Heading to Las Vegas for NYE will not disappoint. The experience was absolutely great!
We had just a standard room. It was visually nice, however little things made it not so enjoyable.
Make up mirror was broken so it could not be used, very little counter space, toilet set up was awkward, thin walls (noisy), uncomfortable pillows and constant green light shining into window.

The positives are: its a great hotel to easily get around. I have stayed in the Venetian before, where it looks a ton nicer, but it is a mission to get anywhere. I do like how the MGM is laid out. Very easy connection to New York New York as well.

Places to eat are great. We did Fiamma for NYE - expensive - but totally worth it! Was amazing - wine, apps, food, service.

Pizza place downstairs also good. The pub food did make me ill - but was a nice place to hang for a night.

Casino dealers were alright - not as fun as the ones on Fremont st.

As for NYE - amazing access to the street looking right at NY NY, so the view of the fireworks was phenomenal!

We rented a car and drove to the Grand Canyon. You can rent a car right from the MGM lobby - VERY convenient! However get there super early - only 1 attendant and the line was huge at 7:30 AM (when it opened). This did delay our trip by about 45 minutes. Also- you are paying for the convenience - $$$

Would I stay in the hotel again? probably not - would like to try something new.

My husband and I stayed at the MGM for 5 days for our honeymoon (4 years after our wedding though). Our view from our room wasn't the greatest, but then again we got an awesome price ($450/person 5 nights including airfare from Buffalo), so I wasn't going to complain to much about the view. The internet did go down once and awhile, but thankfully help desk was able to come and reset the internet so we could keep in touch with our children back in Canada.

Check-in was quick and easy. Our room wasn't available, but they gave us the keys and told us to call at 3pm with our "code" and they would be able to give us our room numbers at that time. Checkout was quick and easy as well. If you are going there and gambling, I suggest that you sign up for m life, it was easy to do, and it benefited us ($100 off our room balance).
The room (grand king) was fantastic, and I would book that room type again. It was perfect for what we wanted it for, a place to rest in between venturing the strip.

We had the breakfast buffet twice. The first day was fantastic, the second day however it was gross. So the buffet is a hit and miss.

However, MGM is located near the end of the strip, so it's a bit of a walk, but hey your in Vegas so you better be used to walking. However, the 3rd day there we found the basement of the hotel and found the monorail station and was able to take the monorail to the other part of the strip and check out the location near the Venetian and treasure island.
