“Great Chinese New Year Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 17, 2013 via mobile

First off I would like to say that if you did have a bad stay here at MGM then you must of had a really bad situation because my family and I "Love" this place very much! We stayed during Chinese New Year and it was very festive with all the declarations. I have been to Vegas alot and this has to be one of the best times I've had in eight trips! So if you are planning a trip to Vegas beleave when I say, stay here and you will love it just as I and the family did.

This was our first time in Vegas and the MGM got decent reviews and the price was right. We arrived on a Wednesday evening and got checked right in. Our room was on the 4th floor of the west wing. We had a petite king room, which offers a king size bed, a desk with a chair and another chair. The room is very modern, yet a little small. There is no coffee maker or fridge in the room. The bathroom is right when you walk into the room, there is no separate room. So you have the toilet in one little glass enclosed cubby and the shower is next to that. The sink/vanity is right outside of the shower and toilet enclosures. The bed was comfortable and so were the pillows.

The casino is HUGE! As mentioned by a previous reviewer, despite the ventilation system the area is very smoky smelling. We visited the Bellagio and Caesars palace and their casinos did not have this problem. Some tables are nonsmoking, which is nice.

There are also several dining options in the hotel. We ate lunch and breakfast at the buffet, and both meals were very good.

This hotel is on the southern part of the strip right across from NY NY. We had no issues walking up the strip, but just be aware that you are quite a ways away from the Venetian and the hotels near the top of the strip.

We enjoyed our stay here overall and would stay again.

Dear NLOhiotrvl:

Thank you for posting your comments online. We are always looking to garner feedback to help us evaluate the experiences and observations of our guests. Your comments are indeed encouraging.

It is pleasing to know that our very popular, modern-styled Petite King room type was able to meet your expectations for comfort and convenience. These rooms, and their bathrooms by extension, are smaller than our Grand Tower Deluxe room, but work exceptionally well and are quite popular with many of our guests. We do regret that the compliment of in-room amenities did not meet with your satisfaction. We will take your comments under consideration going forward.

We are further encouraged by your feedback regarding your dining experiences. Our Grand Buffet is a favorite with many visitors. It is good to know that you enjoyed it.

Lastly, we do acknowledge from time to time a greater than usual number of tobacco enthusiasts may frequent our establishment. In light of yours and other guest feedback we constantly renew our efforts to mitigate these matters. Rest assured we continue our stringent use of meticulous cleaning, and high powered ventilation to reduce these effects when they occur. We regret any disconcertment this must have caused you.

Your satisfaction is paramount to the success of our business, and we want to let you know that we value you and your patronage very much. This is the culture of service that we strive to foster, each and every day at MGM Grand. Thank you for staying with us, we hope to serve you again soon.

Sincerely,

Let me preface this review with I was on a company trip so this will not apply to every viewer.

My wife and I arrived into LAS from ATL around 6pm Sunday afternoon. After a 10 minute taxi ride we arrived at MGM to find NOBODY in the check in line. Check in was a breeze and we were headed to our room in the Grand Tower, floor 22, shortly after. The walk from the elevator took at full minute at the least. The hotel is so big that you will be walking everywhere.
The room and bathroom was nice and clean. We had a great view of NYNY and the Monte Carlo as well. The only negatives would be that you do not have a fridge for personal use or a coffee maker in the room. We chose to eat at the food court often: McDonalds, Nathans Hotdogs, a pizza joint and one Asian take out place. Since most of my company events had meals provided we just needed something late night after the booze and cards were flowing.
The casino is the biggest I have ever seen and we play mostly table games. I only saw a $5 BJ table from 6-8 am most days. The rest of the time the minimums were $10 and up the rest of the day. Around 6pm they would raise it to $15 depending on the flow of people coming in. Dealers were nice and talkative for the most part.

Since I was here on business the convention center is a 15 minute walk each way. The convention area itself was nice but the walking was just too far away in my opinion. Your feet will hurt after a full day of walking this far, so be sure to bring comfortable shoes.

Checking out was very easy and the food and beverage credit we had on our account showed up without any problems. Be aware and prepared to pay at checkout - MGM Properties charge a daily $25 resort fee which includes in room internet service, a free newspaper and access to the gym/pool.

All in all, we would probably not stay at the property again for a personal trip. For the price, resort fee, and walking distance to center strip, everything just seemed very expensive and the value was not there. The hotel is beautiful, but I don’t want to spend my time inside the hotel while in Vegas.

Room Tip: Bring comfortable shoes and be ready to walk.

Dear jamey t:

Nothing helps us gauge our performance like honest, straightforward, and thorough feedback. As we commit ourselves to providing our guests with truly memorable moments, observations like yours give us the insight to measure, evaluate, and strengthen our performance. Your comments regarding your casino gaming experiences, and the provided dining options you enjoyed are particularly poignant. We are also gratified to know that the service you encountered was both affable and timely. These are important standards we seek to provide all visitors to our property, as they are critical components of a successful service experience.

It is regrettable that you found the MGM Grand more expansive than what you preferred. In conformance to the pedestrian centric spirit of our city, we house all manner of impressive and unique amenities under one roof for the enjoyment of our visiting patronage. For those who feel compelled to venture out into our fair city, we also act as a hub for a host of transportation options such as buses, shuttles, taxis, limousines, and a state-of-the-art monorail system, all for your convenience. If you visit Las Vegas or MGM Grand again, we hope you consider the aforementioned, as there is a tremendous amount to see all along the Strip.

Either for business or pleasure, we hope to be given a chance to serve you once again, so that we might provide you with the unforgettable resort experience you deserve.

Sincerely,

Lori Pastor

Stayed here last June from the UK with a friend as part of our mini tour round America. Booked for 4 nights and had paid for a standard double room along with our flights so we got a very good deal overall on the hotel. When we got to check in we asked if we could be near my cousins and their friends who had a room with 2 double beds. They were very happy to accommodate us and also upgraded our room, so me & my friend ended up with a double bed each, which we were very happy about!
The rooms were very nice, we had a view the Mandalay bay side of the strip and room facilities were great. Wifi worked most of the time but dropped out occasionally like most places these days.
The hotel itself is huge! It takes a long time to get places and get down the the lobby and casino but it's all part of staying in a Vegas hotel! The pools and lazy river were amazing. We went to wet republic on our first day on the Sunday, us girls got in free as we were hotel guests. Sundays aren't known for being overly busy at wet republic but we managed to secure a pool bed for the day and loved every minute!
The location isn't great if you want to be going to the Bellagio or Caesars every night, it's a fair trek to get up that end of the strip but the monorail (another long trek from your room) is located at the back of the hotel and runs up to Bally's, then further up the strip.
We didn't try out any restaurants or clubs within the hotel, only the food court which seemed to be open 24/7. Food was your average fast food and seemed very expensive but again that's Vegas. Overall one of my favourite trips to date!

We stayed here for a business event and loved the property. Our room was very musty and smelled of mildew. After one day, we both got headaches and we realized that the carpet under one bed was wet and had soaked into several of our bags. Once we notified management, they apologized profusely and promptly moved us to a beautiful suite with a hot tub at no extra charge. We got to keep the suite for the remainder of our stay. I would guess that the wet carpet problem was a freak experience and not the norm. We were very pleased with every other aspect of our stay. This is an amazing property right on the strip with so many restaurants and things to do. We would stay here again in a heartbeat.

Dear Marty D:

Thank you for your magnanimous comments. Your feedback is a valuable tool in the honest assessment and evaluation of guest perception.

We apologize for the plumbing issues that you encountered while staying with us. The comfort and satisfaction of our guests is a top priority for every team member at MGM Grand, and your patience is deeply appreciated. The upkeep of our physical property is tasked to the stringent oversight of our dedicated maintenance staff, but unfortunately as you experienced, rare circumstances do arise. When this unfortunately occurs, we take the necessary measures to make things right. It is gratifying to know that an amicable remedy could be reached. Our goal is nothing less than your total satisfaction.

At MGM Grand we foster a culture of exceptional service, and work hard to provide an unmatched guest experience as well as an array of premier hotel amenities. Your observations and comments are indeed encouraging as we pursue this objective.

My wife and I booked a Deluxe King room from Australia for four nights 11 to 16 Feb 2013.
Parking garage was easy in self park section but a long walk to the lobby.
It took 25 minutes to see a very helpul person at check in who explained our booking was in the old section. An upgrade cost $20 for a room in the new section. No kings available so we took a double queen. 22nd floor room 128.
Room was excellent. clean, modern, spacious. ordinary view. a view over the strip would be best.
The block out shutter / curtain was excellent and we had no idea of time in the mornings.
The room was very quiet and bed very comfortable. Bathroom was excellent with good shower over bath.
The air conditioner was extremely drying on the throat.
NO coffee making facilities.
It is a bit like the hotel has you captive and wants you to use only the shops and dining rooms in the hotel and doesn't want you to go outside to eat and drink.
MEALS are very expensive.
The seafood dinner buffet at $36 was good. Great range of hot and cold food. crab legs, small shrimp and smoked salmon. I would have loved some oysters!
Buffet breakfast at $17 was a little too expensive considering all the hot meals were actually cold. This should be improved! A FAR BETTER BREAKFAST IS AVAILABLE ALMOST NEXT DOOR AT La Salsa Cantina for less than half the price. Don't let the $3.99 eggs and pancake sign worry you, the food and service is great.
WINE in the hotel, by the glass is expensive at $11. A bottle of basic red or white in the buffet restaurant is $22 which is reasonable You can get a bottle and take the remnants with you to your room or to the casino.
Most people just buy their spirits outside the casino and bring it in. People are sitting at machines with 6 packs without any worries.
CASINO is huge with a great deal of variety and I never did quite get my bearings in 4 days.
SADLY the Casino STANK WITH CIGARETTE SMOKE in spite of the air conditioning. Not much you can do when you are playing a machine and smokers sit next to you, except move. The air was acrid with the remnants of the smoke. There are no signs to indicate where smoking is or is not permitted and certainly no policing of a smoking policy. I had smokers in the lift with me.
I am amazed that the USA, who has led the world in health reforms continues to allow smoking in enclosed places. Time for a change. I won't be back until that happens which is a real pity because it is such a great place that could stand on its own feet and contain smoking to select areas or provide REAL non smoking areas. Time to get with it casinos.

Room Tip: Definitely get a room in the new section. A view of the strip would be best.

Dear peterperfect2:

Thank you for sharing your observations about your recent visit to MGM Grand. Your comments offer us an important insight into the events that impacted your stay.

It is great to see that you enjoyed your assigned accommodations. The room you stayed in had been renovated not long ago, and some of the amenities that you mentioned are recent additions. We regret that you found the air conditioner to be drying. The desert environment of Las Vegas is very arid, so we offer humidifiers to our guests upon request.

We are also gratified to know that you enjoyed our Grand Buffet for dinner. With a wide selection, this is a very popular option for many patrons. We lament that breakfast there proved less to your liking. Your feedback in this matter is quite helpful.

As to your concerns about smoking, your insights are poignant indeed. MGM Grand employs a power ventilation system to keep our gaming environment comfortable for both the smoker and non smoker alike. We also utilize a rigorous cleaning schedule to help mitigate any unpleasant residues from the use of tobacco products. Additionally, we segregate smoking and non smoking floors in our hotel. You are correct, however, in your observation that sitting next to a smoker will subject you to the side affects of their use. We work very hard to minimize these effects, and we regret any disconcertment this must have caused you during your stay.

We appreciate your comments. The experiences and satisfaction of our guests is of paramount importance to us. We do hope that if you consider visiting Las Vegas again, you will give us another opportunity to provide you the exceptional service experience you deserve.

Sincerely,

Lori Pastor

We booked a package with Southwest Airlines - don't advise that at all - at the MGM Grand Feb 11-15. Our room was in the West Tower, as far from the check in desk as possible. We were on the 4th floor, overlooking an alleyway. The garbage truck picked up the dumpsters every morning between 5:30 and 6am. We heard each and every one. Our room was a Petite King. The bathroom was part of the room with very heavy glass doors that were hard to open and close. The bed was fine. The chairs in the room were very uncomfortable. The food prices were outrageous. The Buffet was at least $29.99 per person, increasing as the week progressed and the food wasn't that great. We were seated at a table near a pillar. People cut between the pillar and my husband as if it were a walk way, even the hostess cut thru the space which wasn't more than 12 inches. We moved the table closer to the pillar and people still tried to use it as a short cut. Our package was supposed to come with show tickets but I never received a link from Southwest Airlines to order them. By the time we got to the Concierge, there were no tickets available, so I paid for something I did not receive. We were also charged a $25 per day resort fee. What is there about a run down hotel that is considered a resort? There was no pool. Internet was free anyway. Portions of the building were under construction and the noise was awful. This was our fourth visit to the MGM Grand but we will not stay here again.

Dear ALeMire:

Thank you for bringing your observations to our attention. Your feedback highlights some important concerns, and thus provides us with a better understanding of our guests’ viewpoints.

We regret that the West Tower Petite King Room you were assigned proved to be unable to meet with your satisfaction. While popular with some of our guests, these rooms do not cater to every taste. They have a unique layout, and a more intimate feel. If you do choose MGM Grand in the future, you might consider a room in our Grand Tower. It is unfortunate that your selected room type did not meet your needs, and we lament this greatly.

We would also like to express our regret for your unsatisfactory dining experiences at our Grand Buffet. Every venue we employ, from our most economical fast food establishment, to our twenty-four hour in-room dining, to our world class gourmet restaurant, are all dedicated to providing each and every patron with a culinary and service experience that meets and exceeds expectations. In your case we obviously fell short of our goal, and we apologize. Your comments will help us remedy the issues you mentioned, so that we might prevent them going forward.

The issues concerning your show tickets are also most unfortunate. It is unclear where specifically the communication shortfall occurred, but regardless we wish to express our regret for any entertainment opportunities that you might have missed. Our concierge team is highly trained in solving issues of this nature, but it would seem that this was a situation even beyond their capable hands.

Lastly, we would also like to thank you for your input regarding our resort fee structure. The resort fee program was adopted back in June 2010 in compliance with a directive from our MGM Resorts International corporate offices. The initiative was designed to create a uniform set of in-room and property amenities for both MGM Grand and our sister properties. We apologize if either the services offered or daily charges failed to meet with your approval. Please also note that we do have a rather extensive pool complex, as well as the UltraPool, Wet Republic. Both of these are exceptionally popular, but were not open during your stay due to abbreviated seasonal operating hours.

All of your feedback is quite welcome, as they give us the opportunity to evaluate our strengths and weaknesses. As our “Grand Renovation” moves forward, extensive improvements and exciting upgrades are appearing regularly throughout MGM Grand. We truly value your patronage, and hope to be given a chance to serve you better in the future.

Sincerely,

Lori Pastor
