6 girlfriends and I went to Vegas for a bachelorette weekend and rented one of the 1500x3 2-bedroom suites at Mandalay. The suite technically could accommodate 6 but we put one of the girls on the living room sofa and had 7 in the room. The first of our group arrived early on Friday - around 10am. The hotel said the room wouldn't be ready for a couple of hours, but they stored the bags until the room was ready. By noon, the room was ready and we were in. BTW, the check-in lines were giantly long, but efficient. Don't expect to walk from the taxi to the checkin desk to your room in 10 minutes, though. It'll take about a half hour to get processed!
The suite was absolutely fantastic. We were on the 18th floor at the very end of the hallway. the picture windows in the living room gave an expansive view of the airport and mountains, but if you went to the far corner of each bedroom, you got views of the pool area and the Strip, respectively.
The living room area had a love seat and 2 chairs, the dining room had a table and 4 chairs, the bar area had 2 mini-fridges - one with all the minibar goods they wanted to sell us and one which was empty and available for us to stock with cheaper fare we bought at the store off-strip.
The bedrooms were each spacious with closets and comfy beds. The blinds throughout the suite were electronically controlled.
The bathrooms were both spacious, one had a jetted tub and a shower, the other had only a regulat tub and a shower.
We called down to get extra blankets and they never came so we called again a few hours later and they brought them up. We called for extra towels and they brought us Mandalay robes and slippers (for using and leaving behind, not for keeping).
Because this was a bachelorette weekend, we wanted to splurge and get a cabana. However, the cabana cost would have been anywhere from $500-$600 depending on where in the pool area we wanted to be. BUT, for only $50/person, we could rent padded beach chairs in the VIP section of the beach. This was the best money we spent the whole trip. Everyone was raving about how it was the highlight of our whole weekend (high praise considering we also went to dance clubs and a strip club!)!
When you rent your beach chair, someone comes and sets it up for you and it's yours for the entire day, even if you want to leave the pool for a few hours and come back. You get a padded chair, they lay the towels out for you, they bring you a bucket of ice with little bottles of water in it, they offer you little packets of sunscreen in a variety of SPFs, and you have a server coming around to check on you and bring you fun drinks. There is a little table between the pairs of chairs so you get at least half of a table, if not the whole thing, depending on who your seatmate is. They also have beach umbrellas, although those cost an additional $50/day to rent.
It's tough to think of anything bad about our stay, but I have 2 areas for improvement to suggest.
1. When we checked out of our suite, we left our keys on the table in the room. Moments after we latched the door, one of our party remembered she had left something in the room. She asked a housekeeper in the hallway to let us back in and the house keeper said we needed to use the house phone by the elevator to call security to come let us in. She called and half an hour later, still no security officer. she called again to check on their ETA and they said they had no record of her first call. A few minutes later, a security officer finally came and let her in.
2. The pool area has a lazy river, which is the only place where inner tubes and rafts are allowed (understandable). But they won't rent you a tube or raft. And that's kind of weird because the information booklet in our hotel room specifically said you could rent OR buy tubes at the pool area. Alas, instead, you have to pay $22 to buy one. Now if we had known this, we might have bought $5 tubes at home and brought them to the pool. But we didn't.
3. Mandalay is on the far end of the strip. It takes forever to get anywhere else on the strip except if you're taking the tram to adjacent Luxor or Excalibur.
All in all, we had a fantastic stay at Mandalay and would totally return and recommend it to friends.
