We just got back from three days at Mandalay Bay. The rating of 4 is just indicative of the small things that all added up to losing one star. The hotel is amazing in looks and cleanliness. The Valet staff were very friendly and professional.
The check in time, as has been noted on other reviews, did take 45 minutes but what neither myself or my wife understood was the hotel has a strict check in time of 3 pm. They only had 4 windows open until about 30 minutes later and then there were 8-10. If you know it is the holiday season and you can tell by the reservations that you will be busy why not consider the guest first and have the 4pm crew show up at 3pm. I understand labor cost, but we heard many people say they would not be back due to the long check in time.
We finally make it to the head of the check in and get our room; 10th floor Spa Suite great room and even a decent view. We go back down stairs to grab something to eat and play a little. We ate at Raffles, their food was a good value, service and staff were very friendly and I would recommend this place for just your normal meal; breakfast/lunch/dinner/24 hours. Prices fair for the large amount of food you were served.
Later that night back in room reading and watching some TV get ready for bed and the young kids in the next room start banging on our adjoining door. A) WHY are young children in Vegas, B) WHERE are the parents? down stairs most likely having a good time. The kids keep opening and closing their room door which bangs a lot, so we yell through the wall stop it and they did. WOW!. This was not Mandalay's fault so no negative on them. Like I said the place the people and the food are all very good, the hotel reservation system on the other hand is not so good.
Third day we had back to back reservations and were told no need to worry that they had made sure the KEY would work because we took their offer to stay in the spa suite all three days instead of having a GREAT ROOM which is bigger for the first two days then move to the spa suite the third day. So all around everyone is happy until the third day, yes the computer decided not to accept the direction of the staff and locked us out of our room. We did not know this until very late then we had to go back down to the front desk to get new keys. So back up to the room and keys work but housekeeping had not been there so no clean towels. Any way the stay was good but they really need to work out some things.
