“Great place to stay”

We stayed at the Hilton in August and were quite pleased. We got the room at a great rate from an internet travel site for about $300 per person which included air travel (at that time couldn't get a flight from Pit. airport for under $250 even checking on flights from March untill June). When we checked in, the staff was very friendly and didn't wait more than 5 min. to check in. The room was very clean, great bed, air condition worked great, and a fantastic view. We ate at the buffett when we got there on Monday and the food was good and included all you can drink wine and beer. The casino was nice and we played a little there and the star trek theme was nice. Its not as fancy as Paris or Belligo or anything like that, but WELL worth the price. Its a little off the strip, but we always rent a car so that didn't matter at all. I was a little nervous as to what to expect from the Hilton after reading some of the reviews here, but I will say I would DEFINITELY stay there again! We were not dissapointed at all!

“Hilton fine everytime”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 5, 2006

I've stayed at the LV Hilton three times in two months for a total of eight nights: Two nights in mid-October and six in mid-December.

Yes, there is a good bit of renovation going on, but each time I've been back, it's been less intrusive. As the work is done in each little area, they open it back up. The elevators were throwing some fits because one bank at a time was closed while new marble floors were being installed and the work load on the remaining banks was heavy. However, you can get to any of the banks on every floor so just walk down the hall a ways to get to another set if the ones you're waiting for are slow. I think they'll be finished with the elevators very soon.

Yes, in the casino there is a smoky smell, but much less than I had expected from what I'd read about casinos. I walked through another dozen casinos in LV and the Hilton's was certainly not the worst smoky smell. I ran across no other foul odors in the Hilton.

I've stayed in three different rooms, one in each tower. I found the two queens room in the north tower and the king room in the east tower to be wonderful. The king room was nearly as big as my apartment. All it was missing was a kitchen and balcony. The beds have all been comfortable and clean. The king room in the center tower was not quite as good but still fine. I think maybe they just haven't renovated that tower yet.

Housekeeping was very friendly. One lady went beyond the call of duty helping me find the internet connection which had, for some reason, been hidden behind the TV (probably by the previous occupant). Many of the housekeeping personnel I ran into didn't seem to speak great English; they sounded almost like eastern Europeans. Despite their poor English, they were always friendly and if they didn't understand me, they would find another employee who could speak better English to help me.

Every time I stayed I asked for late checkout because my flights didn't leave until 7:30 pm and I didn't want to have to lug my bag around LV all day. One time they couldn't accomodate me because they were booked solid. The other two times, they let me keep my room until 4:30pm without additional charge which I thought was mighty generous.

I wish the Internet connection was free, but considering I paid only $50/night for the rooms, I can understand why they charge. However, when people are paying $100, $200, and during CES even over $400/night, I really think it should be free. The connection worked great, too. Unfortunately, they put the connection too far from the desk so you've got to work at a little table. Also, bring a power strip because they have used all the power plugs and you've got to unplug the TV or the light if you're going to use your notebook at the table where the Internet connection is. I bought one at the Walgreens on the strip just so I could use my computer with light and TV both on.

I've eaten at both the Paradise Cafe and the Buffet. I'm on a low carb diet so I really like the Buffet as it lets me pick and choose. The food was good, the price was good, the service was good. The cafe was your typical coffee shop fare, but it was fine, too. The waiter we had was a little sullen, but he warmed up to us. He seemed a little thrown when I tried to substitute something for the potato that came with the steak, but eventually he got the point that I was avoiding carbs and he came up with some veggies for me.

The Hilton Theatre has lots of history but doesn't seem to have been updated (at least the part the audience sits in) in a long time. It would be nice if they'd spiff it up a bit and fix it so not everyone had to stream out of the one door when the show is over. It takes forever to get out and if you're coming back for the second show, it doesn't leave much time for bathroom breaks, etc. It's also usually too loud, so bring some earplugs just in case. The Johnny Mathis Christmas concert was just right, but Barry Manilow's shows are sometimes painfully loud, and sometimes okay. Yes, I go a lot.

I did the Star Trek Experience and found it to be a waste of money, and I like Star Trek. If it had cost $10, fine. But for over $30, I expected more.

Of the three stays I've made so far, check-in was trying once. The line was long and I had to go through it twice because they didn't give me the concert coupons they were supposed to. The other two times, it was a snap.

I'm going back on January for two nights, in March for two nights, and in July for five. I'll take pictures and add construction updates, etc., each time if people think it'll help.

“Everything was fine, nothing was outstanding”

I tend to agree with the recent reviews below. Everything was fine, nothing was outstanding. Although not the largest, this is a very large hotel with 5000 rooms. Apparently, during times of low occupancy, they offer very competitive rates. You really can't go wrong staying here, but don't expect the glitz of some of the newer places.

“Just a place to stay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2005

My husband and I frequent Vegas at least twice a year and usually stay on the strip, such as Mandalay Bay, Venettian, Aladdin.., but never at Hilton LV. Read up on the reviews posted on this site, decided to stay for a night before meeting up with friends at their 'new home' during Christmas week.

My experiences:
1. Great deal of $51 on Sun, Dec 25th, which came with 2-1 buffett coupon and $25 off spa coupons
2. Valet parking was good. No cars waiting since we pulled in around 7:30pm.
3. Check in took longer than expected, since there was only 3 hotel agents at the registration desk.
4. I recalled reviews stating to request the North Tower. Before I could even request this, we were informed that we have the North Tower, 18th floor with a view of the Strip. Not bad for $51. Keep in mind, Hilton LV is one small street east of the Strip and more North on the Strip.
5. Construction was minimal
6. Elevators were small and old, but functional
7. Renovation was above average: glass mirrow closet doors, small powder area (cute), faux marble counter tops for the bathroom, marble table top underneath the entire length of the window, small one seat lounge chair.
8. Room didn't feel very well lit until all 4 lights were turned on.
9. Shower was dripping upon arrival. There was a pool of water collecting. Since we were only going to be staying here to just 'sleep', didn't bother changing rooms. I believe this was an isolated incident: the shower head and the tub water would both run when the water was turned on
10. The walls are thin. We could hear the kids next door and you can hear people talking out in the hallway.
12. Casino gaming area is pretty small, compared with the larger casino's on the strip. We did a few runs around the casino to make sure this was it. Yes, it was.
13. There is a monorail station, but didn't have time to utilize it.
14. Excited to use the buffett coupon: lunch was $11.99, unfortuantely, I think this was one of the worst buffett's I've had.
15. Bell desk: dropped off our luggage after doing an express check out, this didn't take long at all. Picking up our luggage took 20 minutes. No one was at the bell desk, tried to get someone's attention at the registration line but given that it was the day after Christmas around 1:30pm, the line was 20 deep. Eventually got our luggage.

Overall, this hotel was just another average hotel to stay at. I honestly don't know how this hotel can be considered a 4 star, but somehow it is and maybe from other people's prospectives, it is. For me, it was average.

If you're looking for a great deal, on a budget and don't mind being off the strip (and having to either take the monorail, taxi, or drive to the other casino's to gamble), the Hilton LV should be sufficient accommodation.

“What A Dump”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2005

This hotel has fallen very far very fast. On a recent stay in vegas we ventured from Paris to catch David Brenner. His show was very good, but the hotel is a dump. I don't know if it is due to construction there, but the place lacked proper ventilation. EVERY place one went inside smelled strongly of smoke or just plain smelled. The newest area completed is done in an absolutely silly star trek theme. A BIG turnoff. It used to be a classy place. Barry Manalow is the only visable class there--that is if you can see through the smoke. I was so shocked to see how bad this place has become. I can only guess how awful the rooms are.
