“Great place but needs a little TLC”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 1, 2013

Just returned from a week at the Flamingo. We have stayed here several times in the past and have been very pleased. This year, while all was good, things seemed a bit run down. Check in was easy and not too terribly long given our arrival time. As it was after 9pm, the Platinum/Diamond Check-In area was closed and moved to the space that the Gold Card folks usually use. Thus, we were not able to bypass the regular check in line like others have mentioned. Got our room, we were asked if we wanted to upgrade for $20 per night. We opted not to, as we don't spend much time in the room. The room was fine, pool view, 24th floor. It was clean, the bed was comfortable, the bathroom and toiletries were adequate. The hallway carpetting could stand to be replaced and the elevators are in need of some repair/cleaning. Elsewhere in the hotel, you could see that they were in the midst of replacing the carpets. While we did not hear noise from the construction next door, the patio dance party at Carlos and Charlie's was pretty loud. The walls in the room are rather thin and the folks next to us seemed to only speak in a shout. My only real complaint was at the food court where a massive insect (a roach?) was crawling around on the floor. We went elsewhere after that.

Me and a couple friends stayed for 4 nights at the Flamingo and overall enjoyed our stay. When I arrived to check in the line up was super long but was informed if you sign up for the total rewards card (free) you'd be able to use the much shorter line , also you receive a $5 voucher to use at the slot machines (just a nice little gesture) , cut the wait time more then half. Its for sure worth the extra money to get the updated GO room . Was very nicely appointed with pretty comfortable beds and a great bathroom , also the stereo with IPod hook up was great . Our room was facing the garden and pool which was just fine for us , I don't think paying more to face the strip is worth the extra charge ( a lot noisier ) . Location was great and pool felt like you were in a tropical paradise , get there early if you want to find a good spot to sit . I guess my only complaint would be the customer service was mediocre at best, but it didn't really damper our mood much.

Room Tip: GO room upgrade is worth the extra charge , garden / pool view is quieter than strip view

Although the Hawaiian Islands are a great place to live, the residents here often migrate-- willingly flying 3,000 miles across the Pacific, nearly five and a half hours away-- to the "Ninth Hawaiian Island" -- more commonly known as Las Vegas. It is where we let down our hair and seek luxury, fortune and fun upon the dry sands -- under scorching sun in the middle of a Nevada desert. We behold instead of a beach, a glitzy Strip of neon signs and mammoth hotel-casinos on the Las Vegas Boulevard, or southward, in a dried out glitter gulch of older buildings descended from a former railway station today known as Downtown Vegas.

The Caesar's organization, owners of dozens of casinos in Vegas and nationwide has created a "Total Rewards" program that offers its guests bonus points which add up to a number of options to stay free at their hotels and give bonuses to players in their casinos. Even if you are not a "high roller" member, you would be surprised to know the benefits of the program, which individuals can access online or by phone for specific "rewards."

We decided on a last minute, late summer vacation to visit Los Angeles and on impulse, called Caesar's Total Rewards for a few nights in Las Vegas, an hour's flight away. It was to be the Flamingo Hotel where we were offered three comp nights due to our visits during the past few years. (We stayed at the Paris Hotel last year.)

The "Rewards" bottom line: you may be pleasantly surprised at what the Caesar's organization will offer you depending on your Rewards points and their availabilities at the time of reservations, depending on your level of play and expenditures at their hotels.

There were two large conventions coming in, so we lucked out on "Rewards" and were granted an upgraded, newly renovated deluxe double queen bed room on the 21st floor, overlooking
the strip and Bellagio fountains; it was a bright, airy view over the city which was partly interrupted by a tall construction crane which was operating above an active building site below. That was the only negative at the time we stayed there, however, and work ceased during the 106 degree heat of the late morning to early evenings.

The morning after we arrived, we visited the sprawling,15 acre Pool site. It was heavily used the day before, and probably needed more recirculation and filtered water for our purposes as it was over- chlorinated that morning so we did little swimming in it.

The Flamingo hotel makes up for its limited shopping and dining options, smallish lobby/reception area by being strategically located in the center of the Strip's best attractions. To the north are the Paris and Bally sister hotels and their Eiffel Tower -Hot Air Balloon distinctive icons, and it is directly across the Bellagio's vaunted lobby displays and awesome fountain.

Next door to the Bellagio of course, the palatial Caesar's Palace, with its marble statues, fountains, Forum Shopping Center (one of the largest in the U.S.) and site of the Celine Dion Coliseum Theatre.

The casinos of the Flamingo, Paris, Bally's and Caesar's Palace are computer-connected by the Total Rewards' game cards and bonus system, so that these multiple dining and shopping facilities might give you added points for your next visit to Vegas. For example, if you eat at Caesar's new, fabled Bacchanalian Buffet, your meal purchase helps to pile on points as well as calories.

Caesar's Palace is the logical go-to for large, upscale shopping, dining and casino activities, a walk across a bridge crossing Las Vegas Boulevard taking about ten minutes. It was a no brainer that we did most of our shopping and entertainment at the Palace which is the Total Rewards' major class act. Endless gaming machines and tables throughout the casino lead visitors through the theatre
area where Celine Dion and other big show stars perform at the Coliseum... For first timers, it would take a GPS to guide you out again.

With Vegas establishments making more money on non-casino activities, it is not surprising that the enormous maze called the Forum Shops has extended into Caesar's Palace's third floor avenues, populated by every fashion brandname on earth. The Forum Shops are an indoor shopping 8th wonder of the world, an endless pathway of restaurants, boutiques, large and small, famous brand department stores housed under a faux blue sky ceiling that makes one feel like they are outdoors...the entire enclosure air conditioned.

So it was largely due to the Flamingo's close proximity to Caesar's and its Total Rewards program that we were fortunate to have the three comp nights in the end. The Flamingo rooms were very well appointed and clean, and a fast check in line for Rewards members - all made it a fine stand in for its luxury sister across the Boulevard. Guest services at the Flamingo and Caesar's Palace was friendly and efficient, all needs attended to smartly and politely.

Room Tip: 1. Avoid lower floors exposed to construction at present. 2. Ask for Strip views of Bellagio Fount...

We arrived and went to check in using the kiosk. The kiosks were not working correctly so we ended up having to wait and check in through the regular line which was ridiculously long. After check in we went to our room and we were going to call down to the bell desk to receive our luggage and the phone did not work. We called down to report the phone issue and get our bags using our personal cellphones. A second phone was delivered which also did not work so the bellman said he would send a maintenance man, who never showed up. During our 4 night stay we called daily to request the phone being fixed. No one ever came to fix it.

The bed was extremely hard and uncomfortable. The vent in
the bathroom was absolutely disgusting. There was about 1/2 an inch of dust and debris on the vent.

In the hallways there were food carts that were there for several days near our room and the good began to spell and it smelled awful in the hall. The hallway carpets were disgusting. There were 2 elevators that were stuck on the 27th floor which made an even longer wait for elevator service.

This was my first stay at the Flamingo and I was very disappointed.

We stayed in deluxe go suite in jan.much nicer than the room we had in august. staff was nice .grounds and pools and habitat beautiful.
Most of housekeeping must have been on vacation.
the maids we saw were ready to cry or (men<sorry)standing around talking.hallway was just GRODY eww.broken blood or ketchup covered hugh panes of glass in trash next to vending, all day sun and mon.room wasnt cleaned untill we called for third time after 6pm,mon. room we got was big ,looked nice, half renovated.great veiw, not bad even w imperial palace and construction.front desk had said it may be construction noise, but we only heard the carnival ct and street noise.that is,when our neighbor nextdoor stopped screaming!too lazy to complain or move,so we just prayed for them to stay out late.doled out some AM payback.lol.but stuff hanging off roof into window ,scary ,throw rug was clean, because its SOAKING wet.bleck.was someone injured?yikes.the deals are great because the construction is such an inconveince.will have to weigh options for next time.location is great however.great deals at the shops etc.fun casino, had to run to find open restrooms.looks like its easy to get around to other locations, opt for walking to monorail, aviod the street.

The room was nice, except for the sewer drain pipes in the wall, you can hear the waste water running down the pipes, all hours of the day/night. Check in was long, plus they charge $$ for an early check in, now. Plus the Resource Recovery fee--$20/day. I was on the 9th floor facing east. I can see the progress of the High Roller Ferris Wheel being erected. It's amazing. The slots looked old, compared to other casinos that had newer slot machines. The hotspot in the hotel is the Pizza Joint by the Habitat, they crank out hundreds of pizzas a day, I assume. Pretty good tasting too. When you walk out in the Habitat, the smell in some areas are down right nasty.
just like your in a chicken coup with poop from a thousand chickens. Food has gotten expensive in Vegas, At the buffet, $20 for breakfast....I started walking to McDonald's just passed Harrah's, for breakfast. I won't stay at one of the older hotels anymore. I'll look forward to one of the newer ones. The monorail was OK, except on the north end it ended at the Sahara, which is closed, so nothing is there except walk a few blocks.

Room Tip: The higher the floor your room is..... the better.
