“Wonderful Room-Rush Tower (non-smoking)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2014

Lobby reception check-in has a large, beautiful aquarium behind it which is central to the Charthouse restaurant behind it. Very stale smokey smell throughout hotel (except our room.) Our room was on the 5th floor overlooking the AC units:( Not much of a view there but, I don't think on any floor theres a good view in that tower. Generous sized room. We had a king size bed, extremely comfortable, quiet, good lighting, beautiful contemporary furnishings and clean. A relief from the over-stimulation of Vegas out on the streets. Bathroom floors were kinda barefoot sticky? AC was quiet. Coffee not included. Internet not included. FREE parking and convenient to lobby. You don't have to walk through casino or shops. FREE pool area is a tight squeeze, loud music and a water park style slide. Maid services were excellent and prompt. For me, the room was the only nice atmosphere at the hotel. All else is stale smoke smell, loud and in your face. But, it's Vegas. I would recommend the rooms highly. Staff were friendly but just average. This location is in the Downtown (south) part of Old Las Vegas. Easy access to Fremon Street Experience and newer trendy, younger bars and eateries beyond that. Don't stay in your room, go out and explore all the amazing hotels and have fun people watching!

We spent 4 nights of our honeymoon in a Rush Gold Club room.

Check-in was at the VIP desk and was very efficient and friendly.

The room was large and modern with very nice furniture and a ridiculously comfortable bed. The bathroom was also very large and well equipped. The only complaint we had about the room was the lack of electric curtains/drapes as these seem to be standard in many Vegas hotel rooms now but otherwise everything was fantastic.

The package included spa access and wifi as well as free coffee, water and snacks in the lobby. The spa was fantastic. It was very nicely decorated and kept spotlessly clean and the spa attendants were very friendly and happy to help with anything. The wifi was fine and the snacks and drinks were an added bonus.

The property itself was excellent and is definitely a cut above anything else downtown. Unfortunately we didn't have a chance to eat or drink at the property on this stay but we will definitely be returning.

Overall, Golden Nugget was our favourite hotel of the trip (better than Monte Carlo and Bellagio) and we can't wait to return. We will definitely go for the Rush Gold Club room again though.

We love the Nugget and have kept coming back. But this time we feel the continuing downward spiral of Fremont St is seriously affecting this lovely hotel and casino.

We'd booked a Gold Rush room in the Rush Tower, requesting a room facing The Strip. We checked in at the Rush Tower VIP desk and were told we had a room with a view. It was on the 22nd floor and had a view of Fremont Street. OK, that's fine. Until the evening when the bands and The Experience started up. The noise in the room was phenomenal We immediately requested a change of room but none would be available till the morning. The last band finally stopped at about 1.40 am. We were told it can go on until 2 am! How could anyone sleep with that noise? Even in the bathroom with the doors closed, the noise could still be felt and heard!

We finally got into a different room facing South on the 24th floor the following afternoon, which was bliss. But it did mean we'd wasted half a day waiting for the room and then moving all of our stuff.

The furnishings and decor in the Gold Rush rooms are different to the standard Rush Tower rooms but that's about it. We did get "free Internet" and coffee as well as water in the rooms and help yourself water, apples, jelly beans etc etc in the elevator lobby. Coffee was there in the mornings too.

With the exception of one icy woman on duty at the Rush VIP desk when we were trying to change our room who clearly did not want to be looking after us, the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful.

The casino, next to Fremont, now suffers from that street's problems. There seems to be no security and dross from the street come in and we were asked several times for money by panhandlers whilst playing VP. And the noise was unbearable. We finally escaped to the peace and sanity of the 4 Queens or drove down to the Strip, which is where we will probably, reluctantly stay next time.

Fremont Street itself is now a mess. No way is it suitable for families. It seems every wierdo in the Universe is attracted there, many of them wearing nothing more than a G-String (plus two bits of tape for the females). We are pretty broadminded guys but this place is not nice at all.

What is more, The Golden Nugget had the audacity to charge us an extra $5.50+ per day "Fremont Street Experience fee" for this nightmare! What a joke.

And the final nail in the coffin is that they have closed our wonderful Carson Street Cafe. Nowhere to go for midnight steak n eggs. That really is the last straw!

Room Tip: Go somewhere on the Strip or avoid getting a room overlooking, or within earshot of, Fremont Street.

My cousin and I visited Vegas the end of April to celebrate our birthdays. We had a room in the Carson tower, we were on the top floor facing the strip so we had a wonderful view. We found the rooms to be a bit dated and worn but overall very roomy and clean. The beds were very comfortable. I had noticed on previous reviews the rooms had a keurig coffee makers so we brought our own k cups. We reserved lounge chairs at the Hideaway (the adults only section of the pool) for 2 days for $20/day and found it to be well worth it, we really enjoyed our time there. It has it's own pool, bar and wait staff. All of the staff we encountered through out the resort were friendly and helpful, Would stay at the Golden Nugget again and hope to return soon.

Yearly guest during spring/summer. GN is always my first choice. This time I noticed a few things that aren't as good as before.

1st-Parking- I've always used valet. The first night it was 'full' upon returning back from dinner at 10pm. Self park is a joke- no vacant spots. It has been my understanding guests use valet and others self park. Perhaps others have caught on and claim guest when they aren't just to use valet.

2nd-resort fee- YES, GN does indeed charge a resort fee. Call it a tax, call it whatever you like but outside your normal bill for room and taxes, GN charges an additional 5 bucks nightly. So if you do a comparison of rates- include EVERYTHING, such as parking and 'resort' fees.

3rd- GN does not ALLOW free wifi. You may have heard how the downtown district is getting set up in phases. GN is not jumping on board as they are digging their heels in and only complying at the very last minute. I don't blame them as consenting now will only cause lost revenue.

4th- restaurants have and are in the process of changing names. The cafe on the corner is gone and the spot now hosts a sports bar.

The good things are the place is still the best Vegas has to offer strip or downtown. Staff are pleasant and helpful ( and yes- anyone can be grouchy on any given day just like anywhere).

I still hold to researching rates from websites and GN site then calling and simply asking to beat a rate you've found. No sense in paying full price.

Room....Just come back from three night stay in Rush Tower. It was nice, clean and we really liked the room. It was modern with great rain shower head in the bath and large area to sit on couch instead of bed. Down side to room no heat or vent in bathroom and no mini refrigerator. We stayed on 19th floor away from Fremont street and had great view and it was very quite. Others have mentioned about bottled water and coffee costing money so we were aware before going. The location of Rush Tower was great and very easy access to Fremont street with a short walk through casino. Rush has it's own check in desk which was fast. Our flight was delayed two hours after check out time but they kept our bags and hailed us a taxi when we were ready to leave for airport.

Hotel Property....nice clean, perfect location on Fremont street, staff was friendly and helpful. The Cadillac Tequila bar was full when we went but there is a Cadillac To Go just around the corner and tacos were great. The girl at Star Bucks remembered us and what we wanted on second visit which was surprising since so many people stop by there. Buffet was ok we've had better but it came with tickets to see Gordie Brown show which was terrific. The pool was packed with chairs and was not appealing so did not use pool but did enjoy sitting by fire pit in the morning. The casino had lots of choices for gaming and the waitresses came by every few minutes to see if we wanted a drink. The hotel over all met our needs and after visiting all the other downtown hotels the Golden Nugget was by far the best choice, we would stay here again.

Took a day trip over to the strip and visited Bellagio and Paris casinos and we were totally happy we had booked the Golden Nugget and stayed downtown. The Nugget has a much more laid back vibe.

Room Tip: Up high and away from Fremont street is quite.

Stayed at the Golden Nugget Hotel recently with a friend and from some previous reviews I didn't expect to like it. It was actually very good - clean, quiet room, no smoking smells, and it was the oldest tower. Loved being on Fremont and enjoyed exploring the old downtown area. Found the Arts District and loved it - your have to hunt for the interesting artists, but worth the trip. Next time will check out the Mob Museum.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room and you will not hear any street noise.
