“The best motel/casino downtown”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

Have stayed here a number of times and it is always great. We stayed in the new Rush tower with the upgrade. It was worth it. The rooms are roomy and have a sitting area. Great bathroom. But also, by the elevators is fresh coffee changed often with fruit in the morning and in the afternoon/evening are jugs of water, nuts, m&m's, etc. Love this place.

My wife and I stayed for a week at the Golden Nugget, ending March 31st. The hotel overall is big, especially for downtown. I don't know how many hotel towers they have, but it's at least 3. The location is superb, being right in the middle of Freemont Street. If you get bored on the property, there's plenty to do without a long walk.

The swimming pool is huge, multi level, heated, amazing, and very often closed. They close at 5 every day, and close due to bad weather, which happens a lot more than you'd think. We got to hang out by the pool one afternoon on the third floor area, but got the boot from our expensive private bed due to wind. The casino itself is flat out great! It's large, exciting, and has all sorts of different games.

This being our second stay, I'd have to say that the rooms are quite nice. Our room was in the Rush tower, which is the newest. The room was clean, spacious, and had a mini fridge (huge plus). There were bottles of water and trail mix and peanut m&m's left by the elevator every day.

The Italian restaurant is very good for lunch, but wonderful for dinner. It's not cheap to do a full dinner, but the food and service are top notch. Just from our one experience, avoid the Chart House. Service was very mediocre, and the food was nothing special. This was supposed to be our special dinner, but it really fell kind of flat. The buffet is solid, and pretty well priced.

In total, the Golden Nugget really offered us a nice time. Pleasant rooms. Great location, especially if you're looking to escape the Strip megaresorts for something a little more reasonably priced and down to earth.

It sounds like you had a great trip! Thank you for all of your kind words. You are correct, we have three hotel towers and I'm glad you enjoyed the Rush Tower, it's my favorite as well! I am so sorry to hear that the weather wasn't great during your stay! I hope you get to visit us again soon when the weather is nicer so you can enjoy the pool all day.

I stayed at the Golden Nugget on 3/31 and 4/1. If you can, spend the money and stay in the Rush Tower. After a late night check in (beware they do rooms first come first serve, and on our honeymoon wanted to give us a smoking double bed room) we were upgraded to the Rush Tower. The room was modern, stylish, and clean. The bed was super comfortable, and location to the casino an pool was a two minute walk at the most which is AWESOME in Vegas!!! The room had a king size bed, a vanity area and a long L shaped couch.

Bell service was FAST and no problems with the valet service. They were quick to get our car and to offer directions. Friendly staff go a long way!

The Golden Nugget has Starbucks and across the 'street' at the freemont is Dunkin Donuts.

the Pool was fun, although the jacuzzi was littered with children. The adult pool was closed due to wind, but we were able to lay out in the top optional area and met some great people.

Drinks and food prices were typical Vegas but reasonable. The Grotto Italian restaurant was delicious!
I would definitely stay here again.

when you're there check out the freemont experience at night! DJ and laser shows!

Room Tip: rush tower - we stayed on the 7th floor and it was quiet!

The hotel had comfortable beds and the on site restaurants were great with good food . The shark tank by the swimming pool was fascinating and fun to watch. It is a child friendly place. The hotel is a ways from the main strip and you need some transportation to get down there. The Freemont Street experience every night was close and interesting with the light show and the variety of buskers.
The only negative comment for the hotel was that the smoke in the hotel was pervasive on the main level. Happily it did not go to the buffet area upstairs, so that is where we ate most of our meals. They were very reasonably priced.
When is the USA ever going to catch up to Canada for smoke free environments?

Room Tip: We got a fabulous rate of $55/night.

Went with a large group..Some stayed in Carson Tower & some in Rush Tower. Nearly everyone had something go wrong. VIP check-in is a joke~ 45 minute wait for service. Rooms in both towers smelled not so fresh. No hot water in either bathroom in a Rush Tower Suite. Water leak in the closet of my room in Carson Tower. Rooms may be 'Non-smoking' but the hallways are still fair game..the stench is everywhere. Complaints from both towers about the in room air conditioning not working properly. Extra beds were inflatable and they leaked. Used K-cups left in the coffee maker from previous occupants. No coffee cups in some rooms. Mysterious charges on everyone's bills... The list goes on..
Freemont Street Experience has become Ghetto. If you're going to have to deal with masses of humanity anyway, why not experience the more modern Strip?
Overall, we all had place to stay with a roof over our heads. Would I stay here again? With so many better choices in Vegas... Why would I?

Room Tip: Seemed to be less problems in the Carson Tower than the Rush Tower. You're not in your room that...

My friend was married on St Patrick's Day on Fremont St. I'm not much of a Vegas gal but I had a wonderful time at the Nugget. The newly remodeled rooms are beautiful and very spacious. The restaurant choices are awesome with great menu items. I had fun spending money in the casino, people were friendly. The best part of the trip was the awesome set up in the pool. After surviving the Wisconsin winter I just loved the pool service and sunshine...and the sharks. I'll definitely be avoiding the strip and staying downtown again. Thanks!

We stayed here for old times since the last time we stayed at the GN was in the 80s when Steve Wynn owned it.

Very disappointed. The front desk acted like they were doing me a favor. The room was up to date and clean and for $80 I shouldn't complain. However, if you can, stay on the strip at a more up to date and modern property with good service, do it. Even for the $$$ it would be worth it.

Forget the buffet in this place as for the $19.99 it is very overpriced and it didn't look good at all.

Also, if you like to smell like smoke , this place will do it for you in the casino.
