“Vegas Trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 9, 2013

We stayed at the Rush Towers and the rooms were very comfortable, quiet and clean. Beautiful decor and overlooked the Strip. Very minimal noise. Easy access to Fremont street and all the sights and sounds of the Fremont experience. We saw several shows and the best one was Absinthe at Caesars Palace. You should also make sure to eat at Du Par's which is just steps away from the hotel. The food is AWESOME!!

We have been staying at the GN last several years but this is our last. Perhaps not staying in the new updated Rush Towers is the problem. Other towers are tired and need updating and cleaning. FIrst off we arrived on Monday...we left on Th. People had left food trays from room service out in the hall way that sat in the hall the entire time we were there. ...disgusting. Our towels smelled like an old gym locker..like they had been in storage for years..new ones were not better. Bar tender was extremely rude when we sat to play video poker he made remark that we were not playing enough per hand and needed to pay for the beer..we had already dropped several hundred dollars on other machinesand tables and no were not playing the max but to be told oh a lot of deadbeats come in here just to get free beer...fine buster..we wont be back to gamble here either..we prefer old part of Vegas and I guess its time to exlore other options or head back to the strip and just take a bus day trip to old Vegas...

We stayed in the Gold Tower, room 1106, for four nights. We choose to stay in the Gold Tower because of its proximity to check-in, the elevators and the casino. Easy access to the Chocolate Box is both a blessing and a curse. The room was well away from the elevators and ice machine. Because it was near the end of the hall there was little guest traffic and we had quiet night's sleep on a very comfortable bed.

This was not the first time we have stayed in the Gold Tower and noticed that it might be time for little TLC. The first thing that caught our eye was several spots on the top sheet that looked like blood, also, there were no glasses in the room. A call to housekeeping had the situation quickly remedied. Maintenance-wise, one of the dresser drawers had a loose track and wouldn't close properly and someone had apparently dropped something heavy in the sink and cracked it. The room was generally clean and the shower worked well. The robes and safe in the room are nice amenities.

The Golden Nugget is very proud of the fact that they don't charge resort fees but they do charge a number of fees for things now considered standard at most hotels. Wi-fi is $12.99 for 24 hours of access, a bottle of Fiji water is $7.00, a box of four K-cups for the Keurig coffeemaker is $10.00. As soon as you break the seal on the box of K-cups you own all four. Pinching pennies seems contrary to a Las Vegas vacation but if the fees annoy you, for as little as $ 0.50 each you can bring your own K-cups from home. As for water, the ABC Store three doors down the street has Fiji water for $3.00 and there are lots of other bottled water brands available for a lot less.

When we checked out, the hotel had added a $5.00 a night fee for the Fremont Street Experience. Really? We really hate add-ons at hotels and airlines. If you need to charge $5.00 more a night, add it to the price of the room. Don't tack it on at the end of a trip. We have stopped staying at certain hotels and flying with some airlines because of all the add-ons. It's not the cost. It's what we consider deceptive practices. Sort of a bait and switch tactic. Because we had booked in June, before the fee was implemented, they removed the $20.00 from the final bill. Which we very much appreciated.

The staff throughout the hotel were friendly and responsive. After a bit of a rocky start, as always, we enjoyabled our stay at the Golden Nugget.

We lived in Vegas for a year, make about 4 return visits a year, and have come to prefer staying at the Golden Nugget downtown. The pluses are:(1) the Fremont Street experience is right outside the front door, with lots of options for gambling, dining, and our favorite, people-watching, all within easy walking distance (and with a drink in your hand the whole time, no less !) (2) The Nugget is the best hotel downtown by far in terms of overall condition, service, and attention to detail. Everything is a notch or two above than the competiton, and the rooms themselves are WAY better then the competition (we've stayed at virtually all the other downtown hotels, and nothing compares to the Nugget.) (3) On some hotels, the more expensive room just means you pay more to get the same basic room with just more space added. At the Nugget, it means you really do get a better quality upgraded room for every step up in price you pay. This trip, we stayed for the first time in the newer Rush Tower, and were really pleased at what we got for the price we paid - room was in beautiful conditon, bed was outstanding. An honest comparison would be to the basic level rooms over at the Trump.

The only complaints we had this trip were that there was a DVD player provided that did not ever work, even after having the maintenance guy work on it; parking was next to impossible in their garage, although it was a busy July 4th weekend & we knew it might be an issue ( we ended up parking at the open lot at Main Street Station, and hoofing it over to the Nugget.); and you can hear the Fremont street bands playing late into the night through the windows, but again, we expected this & had no trouble falling asleep in the comfortable bed anyway !

Room Tip: We sure liked the Rush tower room - a litte more expensive, but worth the investment -

We usually stay on the strip but 4th of July weekend we wanted to stay near the smith center for fireworks. We were also looking forward to checking out the shark pool. I don't have any complaints regarding the nugget, but I also have nothing to rave about.

Me and my sister ( which visited from Germany ) went on a trip to Vegas and stayed in the Golden Nugget, it was a very good and pleasant experience, the staff was very knowledgeable about everything we ask and very friendly at all times.
The Restaurants served great food at reasonable prices at all times. We felled like we were well taking care off at all times, security was very visible and we had no concern at all.
The Rooms are very clean and the price was reasonable. The Café is very expensive, but the alternative is Starbucks downstairs.
Enjoy yourself it is great !!!

Room Tip: get your breakfast at the Buffett for less than $11.00 café included. For Smokers the Carson is on t...

We wanted to get off the Strip for this vacation, so the Golden Nugget was a great choice. Rooms were average but roomy enough in the Carson Tower. Half the elevators were broken the whole time, so there were long waiting times. The pool more than made up for it, though. The main pool was very nice, but had a lot of unsupervised kids. The waterslide through the shark tank is a must do! We rented a day bed at the Hideout pool one day and LOVED it. An all adult, relaxed, secluded pool with great service. Our waitress, Mandy, was very friendly and attentive. Overall, we'd stay there again.

Also, don't forget that they have an airport shuttle for $8.50 per person- sure beats the $50 cab ride!
