“Bike Fest 2012”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2012

Stayed at the Golden Nugget (Rush Tower) for the 2012 Bike Fest. The hotel staff was outstanding. The room was simply devine. Excellent decor, plenty of space, the bath area was very spacious. Arrived on thursday and departed on sunday. Restaurants were prepared to handle the large crowds. Travel Tip, using the local cabs can be expensive but the bus service offer day passes for a very low fee and the (very clean) bus drops you off in front of the hotel.

Room Tip: Take the upgrade and ask for a corner room. Corner room provides more privacy and an excellent view...

I've been staying here since the big remodel, and never been disappointed until now. The Rush Tower upgrade is a no-brainer, just do it. The rooms are top-notch. The facility is clean and modern. The decor is tasteful, functional, and relaxing with some Vegas splashed in.
Gaming at this property is always good. We play craps and the pit is well staffed, reasonably priced, and service oriented.
That leaves us with the rub...
Who's the moron that screwed up the desk staff? We waited 50 min to check in because of an admitted computer glitch. Despite our correct confirmation, and verified payment information, they made us wait at the desk for nearly an hour while they fixed it. Here's a thought... if you know it's the hotel's problem, give the guest their room and fix it while they're vacationing.
My room key stopped working, so I was locked out while wet from the pool. There was only one line, and that was check-in, so I, and several having similar requests got into that line only to be ignored while others walked up to the desk to be helped. During this time a line developed at check out. When I asked the attendant, she said we were all in the wrong line and to get at the back of the newly formed one. Are you kidding me?
It took 25min to get the replacement key. Not acceptable.
When we checked out Sunday, there was one person working the desk. Guess how long that took?
The Nugget owes me two hours!
Fire the loser that changed it from the guest/service oriented property I looked forward to visiting, into the black home of time and patience!

Large, comfortable room. Bathroom smaller than a lot of modern hotels, but the overall facilities in the room were good. Have always stayed on Strip hotels before so was a bit dubious about our 1 night stay in the Nugget, however it really did exceed expectations.
We had only booked 1 night as only really wanted to experience the shark tank in the swimming pool, but ended up having a really good time on Freemont St. We ate in Charter House for lunch which was very impressive with a seat right beside the enormous aquarium. Then in the evening ate in Vic & Anthony's steakhouse, which was fantastic, great service & atmosphere & better quality steak than some of the more over-priced alternatives on the strip.
The swimming pool was very good, but you are completely on display to those in the hotel lobbies & corridors which is a bit disconcerting. The slide was fun but goes a little too fast to really be able to see the sharks as you're sliding.
Also a good tip for something more historical to see near Freemont is Main St Station casino - so much prettier than the other casinos! And good Triple 7 brewery.
The hotel gym CV room is OK. Had a problem getting one of the machines to work and they sent the assistant in to sort it out - he had no idea how to use the machine. The weights room on the other hand is fantastic - well-equipped. Beware - there may be no resort fee in the hotel but they then charge $20 to use the gym and charge credit cards for the use of the Internet.

Stayed in least expensive Carson Tower again, arrived in 1st room after a fun but hot 337 mile motorcycle ride to find AC working, but the constant fan mode option not working. We like the white noise of a constant fan, especially during Vegas BikeFest, so my husband phoned the front desk. A very pleasant Brittany had keys to another room sent up to us in less than 5 minutes. The 2nd Room, 11-119, was also very clean and 2nd room 11-119 was in a quiet location on a non smoking floor. Yes, the Carson Tower is a longer walk to the Casino and to Fremont, and our room was a long walk from the elevator, but we always get in an hour of daily walking so it was ideal for us. Enjoy walking past that unique shark pool area every time, with lounge chairs in the water, and gambling tables along the pool deck area. Speaking of water, the rain shower head in our bathroom tub/shower felt great before bed as it was soothing while putting out enough pressure. My nephew stayed in a Rush Tower Corner Room and was very pleased.

We were slightly wary of staying here, with it not being on the Strip, however the location is fantastic! Fremont Street is great on an evening, bustling but not overly busy, with lots to see and do. There's buses running frequently to the strip 24h for about $5 per day - bargain! I wouldn't walk to the Strip though - the neighbourhood looks a bit dodgy (lots of bail bonds shops, adult theatres and motels rented by the hour)
The hotel itself offers great views from its towers - we looked towards the Plaza Hotel into the desert and to the mountains, it would have been good to be able to see more of the glitz of Vegas but I can't complain.
The breakfast buffet is AMAZING. So cheap and the food selection and quality was top notch. I'd avoid Carson Street Cafe though - slow service and rude staff sadly.
Sadly we didn't have chance to go in the pool but it looks fantastic.
Rooms were comfy and clean, nothing special but also no problems at all. I would definitely stay here again on a return trip.

Stayed here for a 4 night Vegas trip 21st August. The hotel is massive with 3 tower accommodation zones. We stayed at the regular Carlton Tower which is were I guess they put everybody who's has got a room at good value nightly rate. Our room was just ok as it was quite dated appointed in dreary colours. I'd spotted that it had tea/coffee machine and thought it would be free and topped up by maid service every day. The 1st few insert coffee pods were free but you had to pay for top ups afterwards at $9.00 for 3. The air conditioning worked fine and was quite controllable. We go away on sunshine holidays frequently so I wasn't too impressed by their giant shark aquarium adjacent to swimming pool and lounge / bar area. I'm sure the sharks are well cared for but it is rather sad to see these fearsome marine predators captive in this manner. The outdoor pool area is a bit of a fake really as it is outside but only open to a bit of sky as the pool is dwarfed by the the hotel towers so yes you are open to the elements but it feels more like an indoor swimming pool. The best bit about the Golden Nugget is the breakfast. Massive restaurant, massive selection of all you can eat buffet style. Start here in the morning and I guarantee you won't need to eat until evening. As the Golden Nugget is situated in the Downtown area you'll need a taxi to get you to the main 'upmarket' Las Vegas strip. Downtown is what it is...absolutely tacky but not even glam-tack...just tacky. Don't expect to be able to find a regular bar with outdoor seating to sit and relax. All the bars are inside the casinos where you won't even know what time it is as they don't show clocks at all just in case someone gambling realises they've been doing so for way too long. Bit depressing to wake up and see people still gambling at 09:00 (were they there all night?!!). I should mention that I don't gamble. What is outside is loud, LOUD rock music played everywhere after 18:00. There is no corner to turn to take you away from it all nor that much desired quiet bar where you can sit outside and chill.

Room Tip: Forget about anybody telling you about being upgraded for no particular reason. If you get a bargain...

This was my first trip to VEGAS and my husband's second trip. My husband stayed at the Golden Nugget the first time he went to Vegas too.

We booked our trip through the Golden Nugget website which offered better prices than any of the other booking sites and easier cancellation policies. It also offered a savings booklet.

When we got to the hotel to check in, there was a line of Army men checking in. Since they had several rooms to book into, another representative came and checked us in at the priority check-in so we wouldn't have to wait. She even let us pick which floor we wanted to stay on so we picked the top floor - the 25th. When we told her we were supposed to get a savings booklet, she said she didn't have that in the computer but did not hesitate to give us one anyway.

We stayed in the Rush Tower. It was a beautiful room with great amenities. The bed was the most comfortable bed ever! There was also a couch in the corner to sit on. The whole room is well-decorated. Our only complaint are the lack of plugs near the bed for chargers. Even on the 25th floor, you can hear the Fremont experience down below but it never bothered us and never kept us from sleeping.

Parking in the parking garage is free. Valet parking is also free for guests but then of course you have to tip. The restaurants were very good. We never went to the pool so can't commment on that. The casino is very large and has a lot of games. The security was very helpful and went out of their way to help us find some lost keys!

We would definately stay at this hotel again!
