My partner and I travelled to Vegas for our friend's wedding as part of a group of about 20 people staying in the Mandalay Bay, THE Hotel at Mandalay Bay and the Luxor next door.
We booked on late and while others where only staying in Vegas a couple of nights before moving on we decided we couldn't be bothered with travelling around and opted to soak up some winter sun by the pool instead, so were looking for a base for around 10 nights and couldn't get into any of the hotels above.
The closest we could get was the Four Seasons which takes up the top five floors of the Mandalay Bay, allowing access to all the facilities of all the hotels on the complex as well as some exclusive areas for FS guests only.
Staying in Vegas for 10 nights seems fairly unheard of unless you're headlining somewhere but we got a great deal on the FS - expedia was pricing around £220 a night but we shopped around online and got it for about £120.
For this money I think the FS is fantastic - I'm not sure I'd pay £220 - there are lots of good hotels around in Vegas for less. We stayed at the Bellagio last year for around £100 a night and it's much more central to the main attractions on the strip and similarly luxurious. We also got and $50 spa credit each on check it which we didn't use cos the treatments were a little pricey.
We got a fantastic room literally looking right down the strip, like something out of a postcard. Watching the news in the morning for the weather forecast the webcam view was almost identical which shows it's one of the best views around.
The room itself wasn't huge but, as they say, it was perfectly formed. A nice big bed with good quality linens, big TV and lots of wardrobe space. The bathroom wasn't huge and the bath and shower seemed smaller than standard, but BVLGARI toiletries were great! I really liked the ipod docking station but I thought the WiFi charge was excessive at $14.99 for 24 hours. Heres a tip though for wifi addicts - if you go down to the beach at Mandalay Bay which you can use as a FS guest there's free wifi there.
I thought the hotel did well on special touches - we had a hand written note in our room from the manager with truffles on arrival, saying if we needed anything to just ask. On the last night we got another note with melted chocolate and strawberries. We ordered room service a couple of times and always thought it good value and good quality.
By the FS pool the staff cannot do enough for you, they set your sunlounger up with super fluffy towels and bring iced water jugs to your side - and that's before they come around cleaning your sunglasses, spraying Evian mist on your face and dishing out complimentry smoothies, ice lollies and melon. The pool itself is only small but it's much quieter and more relaxing than Mandalay's beach which was bustling in October so imagine would be crazy busy in summer.
All in all we liked this hotel - it's just a little way out for wandering up and down the strip. You can get on the free monorail as far as Excalibur but it is a long walk up to Bellagio/Paris/Venetian/Ceasers or the Mirage, which is what I would describe as central strip territory.
The facilities in the Mandalay or OK - we ate there a couple of times - but the casino was quiet and lacking in atmosphere compared to other hotels with more passing traffic. For daytime gambling we really enjoyed the dealertainers at the Imperial Palace of all places for a real laugh and great atmosphere with low minimums... but the Bellagio casino is good at night and you can't beat the restaurants around the hotel's lake for pure views and experience. Bit pricier this year than last but that was partly due to a poor exchange rate for us Brits!
Hope this helps - if you are heading to Vegas we saw the Beatle's LOVE show at the Mirage this time and would highly, highly recommend it. Best thing we've seen in Vegas by a long chalk :-)
