“Good Value, great eats and fun!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

This member of the Harrah group of hotels is kind of the red headed step child of the chain. It doesnt get any respect despite its recently updated rooms, great fun casino and its main attraction (as far as im concerned), the best buffet on the strip, the World Carnival (i think thats its name) buffet. Dont bother with the more expensive seafood buffet, there is plenty of seafood on the regular one, unless you just want to gorge yourself on lobster. And its so big, its more like a mall of food, with individual little areas representing different ethnic foods. The "Carnivale" style parade complete with scantily clad ladies throwing beads is pretty fun too. The biggest downside to the Rio is that its off the strip, on the other side of the freeway so its a cab ride or long walk if you want to get to the strip. But otherwise a great fun and reasonable place to stay in vegas.

First this hotel is not even close to the strip. You have to cross the freeway to get down to the strip. We checked into are room. It was dirty and there way food on the curtains. The worst parts where, no hot water and the rotten food in the fridge. We called the desk and got the blow off. Then we called orbitz to switch hotels and got told that the hotel would not return any of are money and that we were welcome to leave. Orbitz told us there was nothing they could do and we were stuck with this stinky room. Oh, by the way, you can hear the club up on the top floor on the fourth floor, so no sleeping till after 4 or 5 am when all the hussle from the club gets done. Never will stay here again, nor will we use Orbitz either.

We checked into the Rio after 10 p.m. on a Thursday night. We waited in line 30 mins to get our room. We requested a quiet room, on a high floor, They gave us a high floor and a room at the end of a long hall, but it ended up being an adjoining room. We were exhausted as our body was on East Coast time and we had almost been up 24 hours by the time we went to bed, as we had worked that day and flew out in the evening. I also did not want to go back and stand in line for a room change as the line was longer by the time we got our room. About 3 a.m. the people in the next room came back to their rooms, and because we had adjoining rooms, we could hear them like they were in our room, which woke us up, it felt like someone was in our room. The rooms are very large, with a nice size bathroom, separate counter and sink from the actual bathtub. Being able to make coffee in the room and having a refrigerator in the room was a bonus. Just make sure to request a room that is not adjoining.

Stayed in the Fat Tuesday suite and it was beautiful! The staff at the rio is fabulous! Kudos to Ricky at the front desk for being so sweet! I go to Vegas a few times a month and always stay on the strip... I found a new favorite and will stay at the rio now much more often!

We did not stay at the hotel, but had planned a visit here to see the Show in the Sky and eat at the buffet. First, the beers at the bar were very expensive! Once we sat down we had drink service, and it was fast since they use an ipad and send it straight to the bar. That was the only positive all night. The show was a huge disappointment!! Two of the four of us had never been here before, and we played up the show as a big deal. There were only 3 floats, down from the 6 and then 5 I remember, and only 1 of the 4 of us got beads. The lines for both buffets were so long, that we just went back downtown and ate. We also took a cab ride here from the strip and then downtown, so it cost alot of money for nothing. We had planned on taking the shuttle from Harrah's, but the line was way too crowded. I will skip this place again, even if I travel with someone who has never been here.

Overall the Rio is decent place to stay in Las Vegas. We arrived around 5pm on a Friday and the check in line was very long! But they had 7 people working the counter so it went pretty quick. The room was pretty good size and pretty clean. Called housekeeping and they said they ran out of blankets?? Did not hear any of the music from the club and it had a view of the Palms. The quick service deli by the sports book had a good varity and was a great spot for a quick lunch. The casino had a good vibe and the drink service was the best I have ever had. The free shuttle to the strip was great, otherwise it's a $15 cab ride. Not as much glitz and glam as other Vegas hotels but if the price is right the Rio is a nice place to stay.

I've been going to Vegas regularly for quite a while now. I go 2-3 times a year. I've stayed at many various hotels on and off the strip. This was my first stay at the Rio as I found an excellent deal at $39 a night. My first impression of my room was, "Wow!" real nice and roomy with a full sectional sofa on one side of the room and a large roomy bed on the other side! Also, the large floor to ceiling windows just add to the "wow" factor, having a panoramic view of the strip!

The restaurants are very good but can get pricey. The RIO Carnival Buffet set the standard several years ago in Vegas with their humongous buffet. The pool area was closed during my stay as it was during the Thanksgiving weekend, but from what I can tell from my room view, it looks very inviting indeed! There are several pools, one with a sandy "beach" area.

The casino was Ok. Not as large as some of the other major casinos but adequate. The Rio is catered more towards the younger, hip crowd. Not too many kids or the older generation here. It can get pretty loud in the casino area with the blarring music but it is quite lively.

PROS
** Nice large rooms
** Large floor to ceiling windows with a panoramic view encompassing one side of the room
** 5 minute drive to the strip** 2 buffets to choose from
** Easy parking

CONS
** Front desk is a long walk from the main (east side) parking lot
** Can get loud at times in the casino area
** Restaurants are on the expensive side. Dinner at the buffet is $28 if you have a players card.
