Joel Robuchon and his Atelier restaurant are in the most unlikely location, the MGM mall. To find this oasis, you must brave waves of humanity, smoke, and who knows what. The notion that one of America's or the world's finest restaurants lies in such a confusing mess is a contradiction in sensibility. But seek and you will find, it is there. Once they let you in, the door closes on the chaos that envelopes. That is, until your peaceful and blissful repast has come to an end. We had the menu degustation and I will include pictures but not elaborate on each dish other than to note that the meal was flawless. It is expensive, obviously, but you would not have come here in the first place not knowing otherwise. Does it compare favorably to other three-star establishments around the world? Absolutely! The bread cart has over a dozen selections and each bite was exquisite. The closing petits fours cart has fifty selections... Unbelievable! The wine list is broad, pricey, but with many wonderful high-end selections to accompany the fine meal. Shoot for an older bottle to avoid the Asian mark up that has plagued recent Bordeaux and Burgundy vintages. Many of the customers are Chinese so you know there is a wellspring of money supporting prices of the special bottles. Though all the preparations we had were outstanding, the shellfish/seafood trio and the wild grain risotto topped with gold leaf were incredible! The risotto was sheer perfection! Few places in the USA achieve such exquisite cuisine, so if you truly love the art of fine food, JR is a must-visit destination.
