We stayed at the Grand Chateau for three nights as a group of four adults and two kids. We chose this property because of the price and also because of the two bedroom units. We found that there are simply very few options in this price range if you want to guarantee two connecting or adjoining rooms.
All things considered, the location is convenient. It's across the street from the Planet Hollywood mall, and a 10 minute walk to the Bellagio fountains and the new City Center complex. It's pretty good considering Las Vegas blocks are massive, and it can take 10 minutes to get out of some other massive resorts.
We got a two bedroom, two bath room. The room itself was nice, clean, and decently sized, but not luxurious. The room had a full kitchen plus a kitchenette in one of the bedrooms. A typical timeshare "lock-out" layout. The master bedroom had a separate double-showerhead shower, and a deep soaking bath for two *in the sleeping quarters*. Yes, there is a bathtub & a sink next to the bed. There was also in general too much furniture in the rooms, making the place feel much smaller than it really was. With six people total, we felt that we were always bumping into furniture.
In terms of hotel amenities, the little convenience store next to the lobby was useful. The prices weren't outrageous, and it filled the basic needs for drinks and stuff. You should still go to the supermarket to stock up, but it's nice to not have to go out. The valet parking was also quicker and more reliable than I had expected. Beat walking a long way to fetch the car, especially in the desert heat.
Two downsides. There is no restaurant in the premises, so you either had to make something, go out, or get takeout. I wished that it had at least a little cafe or something for when I felt particularly lazy. Then there is the TINY rooftop pool. Considering that this hotel probably targets families rather than partying 20-somethings, this is a big detriment. There were probably 10 people (mostly kids) in it when we were there, and it felt crowded. And it's 3.5 feet deep all the way around, so not the best pool for little kids.
Finally, if you haven't read elsewhere, there is no casino here. I personally think that is a good thing, because it's nice to get away from that.
All-in-all, I'll stay here again if I'm traveling with a large family or group. Just don't expect it to be Vegas party central.
