I visited the Rio on a recent trip. I went with my son who is 23 years old and it was his first time in Vegas. I was impressed 4 years ago with the show in the sky so I thought I'd take my son to see it. Kinda different than what I remembered. The "floor show" was ok and the show in the sky is always something to see for the "first" time. The casino however, in my opinion really sucked. Its not a large casino and the slots were not loose to me. We only stayed for the show and got out of there quick. Just not for us.

Stayed in LV 10 or 12 times in the last few years. This hotel rocked. Off the strip but had a few convenient shuttles. Rooms weren't really suites but were huge. Poorly outfitted, but very clean and roomy. Great pool area. Great restaurants. Great stores. Terrific selection of games!!!! Loved it here and will be back!!!

Ive stayed here a few times and only have one small complaint which ill come to in a minute.

The rooms are well kept and spacious and the staff are friendly and helpful.

There are several nice restraunts to eat in and the pool(s) are nice with a snack bar and bar next to them and a small shop.

The hotel is located off the strip but there are regular shuttles to the strip which are free.

Added to this the prices are usually competative so a pretty good choice on somewhere to stay near enough to all the action but not on top of it.

Back to my 1 complaint , the lines at check in really are horrendous at times , now ok whats the big deal having to stand in line for a small time?
Well a lot of the people standing in line including myself have been travelling for many hours and dont really need to spend another hour standing up waiting to be checked in.
There was 1 old lady who completely lost it after about 45 mins and i dont blame her.

This also is most peoples first experience when they arrive at the rio and gives a falsely bad impression as pretty much everything else gets top or near top marks in my book.

We stayed in a suite, and thoroughly enjoyed having a sitting area to watch TV. We stayed for a week and loved the location. It is off the strip, but since it is a Harrah's property we were able to ride the free shuttle to all Harrah's properties (Bally's, Flamingo, Harrah's, Rio). The shuttle runs 10 am to 1am; so we found it very convenient. They also offer texting of offers. You get discounted meals, drinks, free Paris admission to ride up in the tower, discounted show offers. Well worth the first text to receive the offers during your stay, but suggest everyone in the party text the number, so you get two free offers when they are available.

The restaurants are expensive and neither of us felt it was validated. Having been in the restaurant business in the past (my husband was a chef and I ran the front of the restaurant), we were shocked at the poor quality of food on the Carnival World Buffet at the Rio. We tried the buffet for dinner, the rolls were rock hard, I actually wondered if it was a fake display or for consumption; the salad bar was not watched and many items were empty. We thought we would try again due to a coupon we received for a discounted breakfast. MISTAKE! The french toast was hard, the pancakes had been there so long the edges were curling up; and again were the muffins fake for display or was I supposed to be able to eat them?! Yes, they have quantity of items available, but there is no concern for the quality or the healthiness of what they offer. We could have eaten a better quality buffet if we had gone to a Golden Corral at home; and it would have been half the price! The buffet at the Bellagio was only $3 more and above and beyond any expectations - WOW- wish we had dined there first, we would have eaten at the Bellagio many more times during the week.

The room was cleaned every day, the cleaning staff was very accommodating and nice.

I had lost my cell phone while in the casino, and it was turned into security! Was that a great relief. We would definitely stay there again, but would never eat there again.

For our first stay in Las Vegas - we were happy. But don't know how to compare to other locations, so thus the neutral overall review (also brought down by the quality of the buffet).

Dealers here are nice, friendly and helpful. We won more money on the slots here in 30 min that we did on the southwest side of the strip the entre stay. The masq show was ehh. I wouldnt go just to see that. We wanted to try to catch the dinner buffett, but we could not work it in. We were told by a local that it's a great deal.
