On day 3 of a 4-day Vegas food marathon we dined at Mesa Grill. Perhaps if we had started there this review might be a bit more positive, but after experiencing phenomenal food and service at Tao and CarneVino we felt Mesa fell flat on the service and atmosphere. They do not offer online reservations (and the accompanying email confirmation) so when we arrived early for our 7:45 reservation and were told it was actually for 7:00, I was a little put off. The hostess got us seated with only a very brief wait, though. The food was quite good. We had the tiger shrimp appetizer and the gala apple salad. The salad blew me away! Excellent flavor with a spice note that built with every bite. Loved it! Tiger shrimp was good. Entrees were pork loin (excellent!) and veal chop (sublime!). Our server was average at best. She seemed bored and a little put out. She recited the top sellers with no passion, was unable to suggest a good wine to pair with my entree, forgot to offer side dishes and could only remember 3 of the offerings when we later asked. An overall good, but not great experience. Better staff and atmosphere (reservation issue, no music, no energy in the room, tables too close together) would have made our experience more enjoyable and more in line with the $165 price tag, which is not out of line if the service equalled the food quality.
